If you want the best Chicharrón in Pinellas County, this is the place. Head to the back of the store and order by the pound. One pound will satisfy you for weeks. Their service is excellent as long as you speak a little Spanish. I speak very little so life is good! We love coming here because the local flavor and local energy is excellent. If you are looking for delicious and authentic, this is one of my favorite places to eat in Clearwater. The caldo de pollo and caldo de res are some of the best I've had, and their carnitas tacos are my favorite around. The service is quick, but it can get packed, and there is limited seating, so I usually call ahead to see if their open and if it's busy so I know if I'm dining in or getting take out. I found myself at Ranchito De Pepe looking for ingredients easy to find in Arizona and hard to find in Florida. I found what I was looking for and more. While shopping I couldn't dismiss the delicious aroma coming from the back of the store. Low and behold there was a small restaurant of sorts tucked in next to the meat counter. I decided to give their food a go. I ordered a Taco de lengua and a carne asada taco. They both were delicious. The taco de lengua surpassed my expectations and was mouth watering. I was there today llook for Mexican groceries. Honest the store is not bad, but the prices are ridiculously expensive. Know Suiza the big one is $10.50 in Chicago I got it for $6.50. Four stars for a decent size Latin grocer that happens to serve some pretty solid food. This is probably the most well stocked Latin grocer that I have come across since moving down to Clearwater. They have everything you would want to make a great cinco de mayo party including a piñata if the margaritas make you aggressive (they don't sell tequila). They have rows of beans, tortillas, sauces, fresh poblanos, avocados, along with a great selection of dried spices and peppers. I tried three different types of tacos with the steak being on point but the chorizo and pastor not holding up to others in the area. All in all they weren't the best tacos but I would come back for them and at 1.99 each it was a generous portion of filling. It is a bit intimidating if you do not know Spanish as the hand written menu is only in Spanish but the very polite lady that took my order will gladly translate it for you if you ask. They have plenty of seating inside so you can get the order to go or eat there. I will definitely be back as each time I've gone it has a good crowd ordering some food and/or getting groceries. read more

I made a quick stop at El Ranchito de Pepe on my search for the best taquerias in Pinellas. While few of the local places match the outstanding flavors I've consistently found in the southwest, my goal has been just to find the best we have and enjoy. El Ranchito de Pepe (ERdP) is a nice little Mexican grocery store, and the taqueria occupies an area at the back of the building seating probably 30 people or so. Note this is just an area in the grocery store, so the decor is just simple tables and chairs with grocery store aisles around it. So for atmosphere, it's limited and the attraction here is simply the food. The dining area was clean and neat during my visit. The menu is basic Mexican taqueria favorites, but enough variety to make you want to check out a few things on a return visit. Ordering at the counter was quick and easy, and the kind woman working was was helpful in offering up info about a few things on the menu. I ordered up just two beef tacos for a taste test, and they arrived just a few minutes later with stuffed with good cilantro, along with red salsa and limes on the side. The tacos has good flavor, but again I'll give a big nod to a good salsa's ability to redeem even an average taco. And this salsa enhanced the meat very well. These tacos didn't rock my world, but I wouldn't hesitate to grab a few of them if I'm driving through the neighborhood. Prices were good, and in the range of most every other taqueria within a few miles. My scores on the Pinellas taqueria 5-point scale are below. I would score the overall food at ERdP a 3.5 if I could. But the grocery section gets huge props and a bump to 4 just for carrying my favorite Mexican beer, Bohemia, which combines the qualities of light, smooth and flavor like few other beers I've every tried....it's a perfect match for the spice of Mexican food. My experience here is hit or miss. I've eaten here thrice. The first time was great. Excellent carnitas, very good refried beans, a tasty soup and outstanding chiles rellenos. The second time, the pork enchiladas seemed like leftovers. The mole sauce was good, but room temperature and the enchiladas were soggy in places and dry in others. I guess it depends on who's preparing the food. Third time - back to being pretty good. Maybe if you get there when they're busy, the food will be fresher. Ordered their "chicken breast plate special". Meat was excessively greasy, no cheese, no lettuce, no tomato, beans were very old and disgusting. Top it off I got food poisoning. I like small taquerias, but this one is to be avoided! You'll have much better luck at Mexico Lindo taqueria just 1 mile down the road. read more

Love this authentic Mexican market. Not many people know you can actually order food here too! Their carnitas tacos are delicious! When you order 1 it is like you're getting 2. They put so much meat in the taco and give you a second shell to catch what falls out, making a second taco. If you like a big burrito for a good price, this is your place! They are huge! I'd say bigger than Chipotle, and full of tasty meat and toppings. read more

So excited to have this specialty store in the neighborhood. Until I went in there. Maybe because I'm white, I don't know, but the manager follows me the entire time I'm shopping, mean mugs me and watches me as I check out. I go to many Mexican restaurants and I can say that el Ranchito de Pepe is the best tacos in clearwater!!, the carnitas, al pastor And alambre (steak with cheese) are my favorites!!! They have two green and red sauces the green is the best,and the burritos are delicious and great for less than $ 6,and they have many other things on the menu,the only thing is that it is a supermarket and eating area is small as 6 tables but the food good and cheap,I have 5 years as a client and I will continue going!!! I highly recommend it, oh my only problem was the waitress but with a complaint to the manager now is the smiling me a lot jajaja read more

Pretty authentic mexican food! Portions are very generous. I am from Mexico (west coast) and know for sure when is worth it!! This place is mainly a store with produce, a meat market & a small seating area on the back side to dine in (about 5 tables fitting 6-8 people).
