This is some of the absolute worst Mexican food I have ever had! If I could give it a "0" rating, I would. Es lo peor del mundo! I think a basic cook at McDonalds could make better food with a recipe than this! Either they have no idea how to cook or they just don't care. Been going here a few months, a few things to note. It is typically close to capicity. Might want to arrive a bit before noon to avoid a wait. I keep hearing the food is not spicy hot. Is it served medium to mild spice level on many items, but the local Ranchito will have things like El Yucateco Chile Habanero sauce and Cholula hot sauce to get it to your particular level of hot. You get the idea. This is a strip mall location with hard working staff who ensure the basics are covered. No white table cloths, no dim lighting, no claims designed to elevate their place in the restaurant world. Just good basic food at a very reasonable price. The average appetite will be full before the meal is done. Clean environment, friendly wait staff. No qualms with this one. read more

I've been here approximately six times over the past year. I have never had a particularly excellent meal there, and I've never really had a bad one. If you want Mexican food and you don't want to drive far, or you're going to the movies next-door this will work. The last meal I had there looked beautiful, but there was absolutely no flavor at all in anything but the chili. El Ranchito is my favorite Mexican restaurant. Their Fajitas are second to no one and it is one of my favorite dishes. At least one of us will order them. The Chile Rellanos are pan fried which is the way it is done in Mexico not deep fried as in the Tex-Mex restaurants. In Citrus County there are two El Ranchito restaurants. One in Crystal River and this one located on Hwy. 44 in Inverness. We've eaten at both and I have to say that I honestly prefer this location hands downs. El Ranchito is situated in a strip store near the Regal movies, a hair salon and a Pet Supermarket. The outside is very plain, unassuming and easy to walk by but it has very good Mexican food which is hard to find in Citrus County. The inside decor is colorful and the walls are loaded with pictures of Mexican Presidents and famous people and some clay pots and figures. The menu is varied without being too much to make your decision difficult. There's quite a few shrimp and some vegetarian dishes for those who aren't big meat eaters such as myself. When you walk in and place your drink order- they offer beer, wine and various drinks. Their Margaritas seem to be quite popular along with their Corona Mexican beer with a lime wedge. We ordered their unsweetened ice tea with lemon and it comes in a huge glass with all the refills you can drink. Very good! Along with our drinks comes the usual complimentary salsa and chips. The salsa is above average with some big chunks of tomato and plenty of cilantro including the stems that just give it an extra punch of flavor. It's mild on the heat scale to oblige all taste buds. I prefer some spice to my food so the two different hot sauces that El Ranchito supplies table top meets my palate nicely. The green Habanero hot sauce is my favorite. It not only packs a punch of heat but flavor as well. The chips come out hot and a little salty. My hubby ordered the queso dip- white melted Mexican cheese with some green chili flecks throughout. Very good and plentiful but it must be eaten before it cools otherwise it hardens and then it's not so pleasant to eat. I ordered the Shrimp Mojo De Ajo which is large shrimp sauteed in a garlic butter sauce served with a side of refried beans, Mexican rice, guacamole salad and warm flour tortillas. I switched out the beans for extra rice - not because I don't like them. I just didn't feel like eating any this time. Very, very good and plentiful. My hubby ordered the El Ranchito special number #34 which had one beef taco, one beef tostado, one beef enchilada, one beef burrito and one chili rellenos with refried beans on the side which he dug into with gusto. He said it was very good and hit the spot! We cleaned our plates and left feeling extremely full but very HAPPY! This will be our go to Mexican restaurant in Citrus from now on and with the waiting line outside when we left I would say that a lot of people agree with us! read more

I've had much much better Mexican food than this place but since it's the only one around it's your only option unless you want to eat Taco Bell. Is the food good, yeah it's not bad. It is ok for mex food. We as a family love Mexican food and this ok. We don't go regularly. If you have a craving it will suffice but it is by no means excellent. The deco is really weird and creepy. Staff is not friendly and just do their job. Place is cramped and looks grunge. I have gotten a lunch platter a few time that is pretty good. Just not great. read more

Not my favorite, not the worst, surprisingly, when it comes to Tex-Mex restaurants. It is small in size and kind of cramped, although clean. The one thing that I find odd is when the waiters stare at you constantly, I thought it was me, but others have said the same. It made me uncomfortable. The food itself is fine taste wise. My first impressions were that it was a small business in a good location near the movie theater, but trying too hard with its look and overall atmosphere. The food was exceptional though. I got the chicken enchiladas deluxe which came with beans and rice. I ate everything. The service was slightly below par. We each ordered mountain dew and the server brought sprite and diet coke to the table before we let him know we ordered mountain dews. We have been to the restaurant several times since coming to Inverness for the winter. Nothing fancy, service is good although some servers are not very sociable.
