Ordered steak and eggs. The wife had biscuits and gravy. The gravy tasted like watered down canned gravy. My steak was cooked to order, the hone fried potatoes had a oiliness to them that I am just not familiar with at all. The eggs were satisfactory. Our waitress was polite and efficient. Charging a "Universal Service Fee" on top of our check is simply ridiculous. When I inquired as to what it was at checkout, I was told, "This is the only place I've ever worked that's charged it. I can take it off, if you pay cash." They hit you up for 3% of you charge or use debit. This 3% is also charged to the "Fee" Unacceptable. Stay away. Having gone to Papa J's for the Breakfast experience we decided to try their lunch offerings and see what they were like. We just happened to be in the neighborhood on a Friday and dropped by for meal around noon. The restaurant was almost filled except for a couple of tables but we were seated promptly and given menus. We noticed that they had a Friday lunch special of all you can eat fish that could be prepared three ways. Choices were fried, grilled or blackened. My hubby and I both chose blackened fish. Our meals came with two sides and we both decided on green beans and coleslaw (this is a rarity that we order the same). I have to say that we both absolutely loved their blackened fish! It was cooked perfectly and the spice blend was absolutely scrumptious - the best I've ever had at a restaurant! The fish portion was extremely generous! Hubby was very impressed. He's a large man and has a hearty appetite. Green beans were delicious, fresh green beans cooked with bacon and onion. Tasted like something a good Southern cook would make for their family. Coleslaw was also good, not too tart or overdressed with a mayo dressing, it complimented the meal well. We were really happy with our meal and look forward to visiting another Friday for their fish meal! read more

I'm visiting from Maine for several months. I've been here several times while helping my grandmother out as she recovers from a couple of surgeries. Breakfast and lunch options are plentiful. Friendly atmosphere and staff, prices reasonable. The food is made in-house and is better than good, but not amazing. A few weeks ago, 4 of us went to lunch here; each of us ordered French onion soup and 3 of us ordered sandwiches (one but and two Cubans). The soup was tasty, but not warm enough. My grandmother sent hers back to continue heating; the rest of us accepted the barely warm soup. The sandwiches were good; although, no one will order the sandwiches again. They were not quite as tasty as the soup. The last time I went here, I had lunch. Ordered a chicken gyro, added Feta. When it arrived, it was missing the Feta. No problem, this happens. The taziki sauce was mininal and the gyro Flatbread was not filled as much as I expected (see pic). For my beverage, I ordered an unsweetened iced tea. It was rather weak. I've head unsweetened iced tea here previously, at that time, it was a bit stronger and much better. I ordered dessert; this is the real reason I went here for lunch on this occasion. The last time I was here, I saw the desserts served and they were extremely appealing! I ordered the coconut "cream" pie. I'm not sure if it's a Florida or southern way of topping pies, but it was not topped with cream, but with meringue. Personally, I'm not a fan of meringue. The pudding portion was pretty good, although tasted a bit like refrigerator. The crust, much too thick for my liking. Lastly, it was served in a to-go container. I did not ask for it to go; maybe it was because it was around 1:30 pm, nearing closing time. After reading my review, are you surprised that I will go back? As I said, it is a friendly place with good food. I just need be a bit more diligent when something is missing or not to my liking. Give it a try. read more

From out of town, just passing through and stopped in. The food and staff here is outstanding. We order the country fried steak and a basic breakfast meal. The eggs were done perfectly. The sausage, steak and bacon were so good! The biscuits were so yummy. Wish more places we stopped by on our road trips were this tasty. Wow! We went to have breakfast this morning wanted to try some place new so decided on Papa J. It was terrible from beginning to end! The wait staff took forever to acknowledge we were there, food came out quick but my corned beef hash was cold. I would have told the waitress but she never came back until the end to tell us when we were done to go to register. At the register the next person tried numerous times to guess what we had, failing all 3 times, then the other girl came after 2 guess finally got it! It wasn't busy at all to have terrible food and service! read more

This is our favorite breakfast spot, simple home-cooked food, breakfast is served all day and is typically what we have. The prices are very reasonable and coffee cups are always kept full, the omelettes are yummy and the menu selection gives plenty of options from omelettes to burgers and a little bit of everything in between. Expect to wait for a table if you're visiting on the weekend, we've always had good service. My only complaint is that, without fail, the toast is always burnt. read more

The breakfast menu offered many choices and our food was fine. However, there were several things which definitely disturbed me. First, the man working the restaurant was continually yelling at the kitchen staff at how displeased he was with what they were doing. Secondly, and more importantly, when a black man came in waiting to be seated, he was ignored. Several minutes later a white couple came in and was directed to a table. The black man was not acknowledged, but he took a seat at an empty table. I guess if you're a white-trash racist this is a place for you. I am definitely not returning. read more

Wow! Just wanted to share one of the most negative experiences I'v ever had at a restaurant in Citrus County, Papa J's. We've been here several times before with no issues, but today the manager (and an overly involved cook) lost a customer for good. My parents were visiting and we were all going to go out to lunch. They went ahead to get a table and when they got there my parents told them there would be five adults and two highchairs. There were only four tables that had patrons and several available tables. However, we were informed that they could only push the tables together that were on the back wall. I questioned that, as we have been there previously and they had pushed two tables together for us in the middle of the room. The manager Annette's tone suddenly became very rude. And at this point a random cook who insists he is a firefighter tells me its against fire code. (Little does he know my husband is a fire chief and we will certainly be looking into the truth of this). I insist again they have pushed table together for us in the past when she tells me, I'm wrong. I asked if she was insinuating I was lying and her response was, "you said it, not me!" At this point, I'm flabbergasted, I've never been called a liar by someone in the customer service industry. I asked when the manager was available and she refused to tell me. She told me I would just have to 'catch' them. I then look at the menu and it says, "Proudly serving first responders.' Apparently they serve first responders just not their families. read more

I have visited Papa J's quite a few times in the last few years and not once have I ever been let down. The food is always fresh and cooked right to order. Their biscuits and gravy are amazing (and I'm a finicky B&G eater). I've only eaten breakfast items including their eggs, sausage, bacon, omelets, and pancakes are always amazing. Can't beat the prices and their staff is always been kind and on top of things. The inside of the restaurant is always clean too! Will be back again! read more
