We hadn't been here in years, so when we were in the area I thought we would check it out. Wasn't sure from the menu online what items were gluten free but they seemed to have corn tortillas do I thought it would work. Our waiter, Steven, was really a bartender but he really went out of the way to make sure I knew what items were safe to eat! Which include: chicken enchiladas and street tacos. Also the rice and charro beans are GF. I think they might be able to expand the GF items with a few modifications but I was in a bit of a hurry so I went with the chicken enchiladas: one with sour cream sauce and one with salsa verde which was my favorite! Tangy and fresh tasting! The chicken was shredded white meat and lightly seasoned. Now I don't always like paying for rice and beans that I know I'm not going to eat, so I kinda like that you don't have to have them on your plate. My husband got their famous "Night Hawk" that is considered one of the top 5 Mexican meals in America by Taco USA. It was a chili/cheesy combo of cheese enchiladas with chili con carne sauce and a rolled taco covered in queso. It looked very tasty. For drinks I had the Perfect Marguerita and it was delightful! I wish the glass had been bigger but I did have to drive us home. Steven helped my husband pick a Cabin Boy Pilsner and let us know that brewery was just a few blocks over. I was so excited to try this place again after the cantina opened. What a disappointment. Two people... two margaritas, Mexican pizza, night hawk and guac... $53... you have to pay for chips and salsa and rice and beans... overpriced and overrated. Also, the $10 and $12 margaritas came in a short glass. Too bad because the ambiance of the cantina is great! The guacamole was the best part... really great. The Salsa at El Rancho is arguable the best in Tulsa: has a nice hot flavor but not to overwhelming. The waitress was very quick to recommend the best menu items when I asked, and service is very good. I would still not hesitate to recommend eating here, and portion sizes are very generous. Their menu is a bit pricey for a typical fast lunch. El Rancho has been around for sixty years, so I doubt that will change anytime soon. read more

Just ok. I had the house specialty...the Night Hawk. 3 cheese fillups in a cheese sauce and a chili sauce. I love cheese but thats all there is to this dish, the chili sauce is bland and tasteless. The rice, which is an add on for a dollar more has no flavor nor is there anything in it. Again...bland and tasteless. If you are middle aged and white this may be the place for you. Otherwise grab a bag of Doritos and some Pace, and some Taco Bell cheese rollups and enjoy an evening at home for $6 instead of the $15+ I paid for a tummy ache. Sheila, my server, was EXCELLENT and is why I gave them more than 1 star. She made suggestions, and was extremely attentive and professionally friendly. My husband got a chimichanga which 1st of all was mush and 2nd of all had RAW hamburger meat. He cut it open and inside of it was mostly cooked meat with a few chunks of raw/pink meat. The waitress told him that the manager would comp the meal and asked if he wanted anything else, but my husband's appetite was ruined so he said no thank you. -- All was well until the waitress came back and said "The meat wasn't really raw it was just oxidized." ‍ weird that only a few chunks got "oxidized" and turned pink instead of brown like normal... maybe I don't know meat science-- Will not be going back. Ok, this place is my friend's favorite lunch place. It was her birthday so her hubby reserved the party room upstairs. It worked out great! Jose' was a great waiter. Excellent shredded beef quesadilla! Great queso! The "salsa" was more like watery hot sauce. This place would be 5 stars if the salsa was more like actual salsa instead of watery salsa sauce. But the other food and great service makes up for the sad salsa! Do yourself a favor and eat here sometime...you won't regret it. It is a bit pricey - $25.xx for a shredded beef quesadilla, Pepsi and small queso...so I feel for spending $30 on a solo lunch they could step it up a bit and make an actual salsa and not spicy red water sauce. Did not enjoy at all. My meal was absolutely covered and drowned in queso sauce, you couldn't even see my enchiladas or rice/beans, it ruined the meal for me. The chicken in the enchilada was extremely dry, chewy, and tasteless. The "perfect" margarita was very very small, served in a baby cup, I'm talking 2-3 sips and its gone, paid $9 for that. The only positive was the customer service. I will likely never stop in here again though. There is too much better competition out there with better food quality and better margs. We chose the fried fish. The other menu item was tamales, touted as a favorite. They were good but nothing to get incredibly excited about. They are a solid seven on a score of 1 to 10. Great stop in Tulsa along Route 66. We had the Nighthawk (based on the menu saying it has been called 1 of the 5 best Mexican restaurant dishes in the US) and the pork chili verde (based on positive Yelp reviews). Both were flavorful and are recommended. The spicy salsa is tasty but warning it does have a bite. When I first came to Tulsa, I would see El Rancho as I was driving downtown but I never gave it a second thought until my best friend introduced me to it. First of all, what excellent service!! Every time I have been in here the servers are totally accommodating and helpful. The managers are always present, and you can tell that they are invested in the success of their restaurant. Secondly, queso. I mean, queso is always amazing...BUT here at El Rancho Grande you have not one, but TWO options for queso. Both white and yellow are equally delicious and non-velveeta-ish. The food comes out super fast, and splitting is definitely doable. The frozen margaritas, though an alien lime green color, are strong and delicious. The metal glasses are super fun, but they do make your hands a bit cold... El Rancho Grande may not look like a lot from the outside, but it is spacious and inviting inside. This Mexican gem is definitely worth a trip!! read more

Best Mexican in town but they have changed their salsas. Forever they have had 2 different salsas- mild and hot. We loved that because I like the milder and husband likes it hotter. Now they only have 1 kind of salsa. It's too hot for me and not hot enough for my husband. While we were there a few weeks ago several tables near us was talking about the same thing. Waitress said many people had complained since this change up. If it's not broke don't fix it! The food is good the margaritas are great but if the salsa isn't good there's no reason to look any further. Every time my wife and I eat here, it is a pure pleasure. The service is impeccable. The drinks are great. The food is always piping hot, on time and delicious. If you love cheese, these guys heap on the cheese. The salsa and chips are second to none. I can't believe we never ate here growing up in Tulsa, but I am so glad we discovered it after moving back. Truly a fantastic Mexican restaurant. I recommend it to everyone. Friends, acquaintances and even foes. Turn those enemies into friends and introduce them to local Tulsa perfection. I haven't been to El Rancho Grande for many years since moving-to south Tulsa. With the lack of quality Mexican food out south I decided to pay a visit. It felt like coming back to your family home. Everyone here was so friendly and welcoming, we felt like a part of the family instantly. Not just from the staff but from the old faithful regulars as well. The place is 2 stories with the bar,tvs, and tables upstairs along with a quaint little roof top patio filled with old time clamshell chairs and a beautiful view of Tulsa off to the west. This would be a great place to toast the beautiful sunsets we are often blessed with in Oklahoma. With the recommendations of the knowledgeable server, we went with the Chile Colorado and the chimichanga with queso. Chile Colorado was served with the tastiest rice I've had in Oklahoma, flavorful authentic beans-and flour tortillas. The dish was seasoned and spiced perfectly for my taste. This is a must have dish and will be a regular on my go to meals. The chimichanga was huge, perfectly fried and tasted incredible. Now no Mexican restaurant review is complete without a review of the salsa. After one chip i knew i had found my new regular place. Not to chunky not to thin but just right, I like mine super hot and added the hotter version and the nice thing about this restaurant is the hot salsa has the same flavor profile as the mild just a-lot hotter. Most restaurants bring you some off the wall blended peppers that tastes bad but just is hot, not here El Rancho Grande got the hotter salsa right and for this you earned the 5th star. If you want great Mexican, flavorful meals, and a great family experience. This needs to be your first choice. Great people, incredible food, and perfect salsa. I will be here regularly. I am a sucker for great old vintage neon signs and El Rancho has a hum dingger! A caballero throwing a rope that spells the name of the restaurant with a saguaro cactus in the background is wonderful. Food was alright, although unremarkable.... although the margarita was very good, as was the home made pecan pralines for only .99!. A cute little resturaunt inside and out. The service was ok.... The waitress came out and brought us chips an salsa, which I thought was ok... Didn't come with free queso... I ordered a chicken chimichanga, and my boyfriend a chicken quesadilla. The food didn't take too long to be served.. the chicken chimichanga I had ordered looked like it just had Kraft chedder cheese melted on too, and tastes as such. And the chicken quesadilla magically transformed into a steak quesadilla, which tasted all right. We ordered rice and beans as well, since few entrees came with it, which I thought was odd. And when the waitress came back around for refills, she was kind enough to bring me back a water... In which in reality it should have been a sprite. There is nothing bad to say about Tulsa's longest running restaurant (in a single location). Clean. Great service. Quick, even during a very busy lunch hour. Just about perfect tex-mex (with a few truly traditional Mexican touches sprinkled in here and there). Today I had the shrimp enchiladas. They were very good. Not all tex-mex joints include shrimp enchiladas or burritos and I'm always pleased when they do. Please try this restaurant and let's see if we can keep it running another 50 years; long enough for your grandchildren to bring their children to eat one of Tulsa's truly great traditions. read more

El Rancho Grande is a nice place to go for good Mexican food. The service is really good and they seem to care. The restaurant has a nice feel to it and decorated like an old cantina or hacienda. Parking can be tricky on busy days but it seems like people just overflow into the empty lot behind the restaurant. My favorite thing on the menu is the queso flameada. It is chorizo covered in melted cheese and served with mini flour tortillas. There is great flavor and I seem to always want more. I have had similar dishes elsewhere but this one here is the one I like the most. One thing I find odd here is that not all of the entrees come with rice and beans, which I believe should be the norm. The menu could be a bit clearer on some of the items. There isn't anything unique, just down home traditional Mexican dishes such as enchiladas, tacos and tamales. Overall, the food is just OK for me and the service is great. read more

The food here has excellent flavor. I ordered the Grande Fajita Burrito and loved the flavor, but was disappointed that half of the steak in the burrito was very fatty. It didn't come with any rice or beans and should've for the 9.99 price. The kids taco and chicken were excellent! The chicken strips had to be made fresh--- definitely were very good! They surely were made from scratch. I also recommend the spinach and mushroom enchilada. Very tasty! The tables are a bit crowded if you have a baby carrier and the table tops are tiled. My family and I placed a to-go order last night. We were at the hospital visiting my newborn niece. This was our first time ordering here, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful when I placed our order over the phone. Our order, which included 6 entrees, was ready in about 15 minutes as promised. They made sure we had plenty of plastic-ware for everyone as well. Now, on to the food. It was AMAZING!! Here's a rundown of what we ordered: Chimichanga w/taco meat Chimichanga w/shredded beef Street Tacos w/Carne Asada Cheese Enchilada (no onions, no chili sauce, add cheese sauce) Green Chile Chicken Burrito Chicken Fajita Quesadilla We ordered everything as a meal, and the rice & beans were so good!! The entrees themselves were some of the best we've ever had! My mom said that her quesadilla was actually THE BEST she's EVER had! It did look pretty amazing actually. I have no reservations about a 5 star rating.
