My daughter and I wanted some appetizers before we headed back to Oklahoma City, after a lovely day in Tulsa. We had read about a great place in the Greenwood District, but that didn't work out. So we left that area and soon saw Mi Cocina, in the Cherry District, and stopped there. At Mi Cocina, we ordered the Nachos El Carbon with Chicken. We got a generous order. The Nachos were the best I've had! Plenty of cheese and excellent, large pieces of chicken breast. The chicken was so moist; it tasted like it had been brined and then cooked perfectly. So good! Mi Conica was great! My fiancé and I were looking for a nice Mexican spot that wasn't one of our usuals and a step above a few of the chain restaurants we frequent around town. Food was yummy, and I loved the variety of options that allowed me to get a little something lighter, and my Fiancé to get something more traditional. We came here for an early Mother's Day celebration, and there were some ups and downs. We were greeted and taken to our seats by friendly waiters. We ordered our food and I got the crispy taco dinner. I will say the place was busy, but we had to wait nearly an hour for our food, and they didn't even bring everyone's food out. It took another 15 minutes for them to bring the rest of the food. Overall, the chips and queso was very good, and the food came out fresh and hot. My tacos were delicious. Our waiter was very nice and apologetic about the wait time. The place had a very nice interior and had clean bathrooms, to go along with a great ambiance. I hadn't been to Mi Cocina in a few years, so I was excited about a girls dinner at a place I remembered loving. The hostess was very friendly and seated us right away. But from the moment our server arrived at our table, it went downhill. He wasn't friendly, our glasses stayed empty for the entire meal, and it took 25 minutes to get our check after asking. (In fact, we had to ask the hostess to find our server.) On top of that, the food was...not good. Not a single one of us enjoyed our entrees, as they were either bland or way too spicy. And the prices are fairly high compared to its peers, so this is very disappointing. Overall, a very disappointing experience. read more

Food was super fresh as I had the Shrimp Ceviche and the Tacos Habana. Both were super tasty and hit the spot on a hot summer day. Service was absolutely amazing, my server was a tall male with long hair, I forgot his name I'm sorry. But he went above and beyond and made sure I was taken care of. The service reminded me a lot of fine dining but at a much more affordable price! The ambiance was fantastic, super clean and modern, very open space and ceiling. This visit changed my opinion of Mi Cocina. Last time I ate here, I swore I wouldn't come back, but today I was with a group that came here. I had a totally opposite experience. I love the ambiance. It's very modern with lots of black decor and spaciousness. We were a large party, so we got a large table with a lazy Susan, perfect for sharing. Several of us ordered a specialty cocktail, a margarita mixed with Sangria. It was delicious and a bit strong. I ordered the #3 on the lunch menu, which is 2 cheese enchiladas with chili gravy and beans and rice. The enchiladas were quite good. There's nothing that says Tex-Mex quite like chili gravy over cheese enchiladas. The refries were very flavorful. Sadly, I think refries in most restaurants are a bit bland and watered down. Not these. Several people at our table got Quesadillas. They had a nice presentation which included slices of avocados. My daughter got a brisket dish which had a good flavor but was a little greasy. It comes with cilantro rice which is much better than the rice that comes with enchiladas. The service was excellent. No complaints there. There is street parking and parking in a shared lot to the right of the restaurant and behind it. We typically have to park about a block or two away. We stopped in on a busy Saturday night and were able to get a table right away. It had been a while since our last visit, the chips and salsa were brought quickly. I love this salsa has it has a quick to it but is a little too spicy for my husband. The chips are good a little thicker than other places. I love the mambo taxi on the rocks, it's my go to when we have dinner here. I tried something new and got the shrimp tacos which had pieces of bacon, I really enjoyed them. There was a good portion of shrimp. I didn't love the green rice, it was different but I am glad I got a side of creamy and yummy refried beans. So I've lived in Tulsa all my life and this was my first time going here. It's was a very nice space but didn't feel like the price point fit the style. It kind of felt like a fine dining space with Charleston/ cheddar price points which was nice The service was good. I got to practice speaking Spanish. To think good food can be found anywhere isn't true. The spur of the moment decision was great for me. I enjoyed the calm and great environment. The seating and layout of the restaurant is nice and fun. Once seated at a booth/table style seating, the host and server were very attentive. Justin W. was patient, knowledgeable, and helpful when making menu selections. The menu has a loooooot of options for the type of establishment it was. There is a great menu Monday - Friday till 4 PM that gives smaller portions, with a lower cost than the everyday menu. Because I sadly have to be selective what I am able to eat, I was able to create the ultimate, just enough, and tasty lunch. I had two Cheese and Spinach Enchiladas with sour cream sauce and slices of avocado yum! My drink of choice was the Mambo Limousine. That was a great drink. Not too fruity and not too watered down. My friend ordered the Tacos De Brisket. The meat in the tacos was tender, and the tacos were juicy. Along with a fancy mojito. The mojito was so pretty looking. Very sad. This place has so much potential but the service is garbage. Every single time we order something, in person, through DoorDash, or even through their app, we have at least one item missing. After the 4th time we called and spoke to the manager to let him know we have had frequent issues with things missing. We just wanted them to correct the issue as we enjoy their food. I went back tonight and placed my order in person, listing each item to be sure everything was there. The woman who took my order was friendly unlike the previous person who ignored me at the window until another coworker told her to assist me. Once I got my order I sat the bags down on a table and started to look over everything. I had typed out everything on my phone that was included in the meal and reviewed what was in my bags. After spending $89 I wanted to be sure it was all there. I was missing the rice that came with the meal. The manager asked if I needed help with my bags but I advised I was missing the rice and he did go get them and gave me a side of refried beans. I wish they would address the missing items issue. I don't know if we will go back after this since it's been a consistent issue. read more

The ambience was very enjoyable. It was much nicer than most Mexican restaurants. The server was also great but unfortunately I didn't catch his name. He even brought our beers with a cocktail glass with salt, which was a nice touch. The SALSA was too HOT! We tried a couple of them, & we couldn't taste anything for the heat. I usually like a little heat, but this was over the top hot. My husband felt the same way & I've talked to a couple other people since then & they said the same thing. We asked the waiter if there was a mild salsa, but he said there was not. I would certainly encourage you to consider making a milder one. I ordered the crispy enchiladas served with ensalada y avocado, along with beans & rice. I also ordered one tamale to try. Everything was delicious. Very good quality food. Further, the service was exemplary with our waiter Gustavo, taking great care to make absolutely certain everything was to our liking. Although a Texas based chain restaurant, I find their food unusually good. The slow cooked shredded brisket in tacos and burritos is worth the visit. The salsa is something I would drink in copious amounts if I could get away with it. Their spinach enchiladas stacked with stir-fried veggies are the best veggie enchiladas I've ever had and trust me that means something. I enjoy their outdoor patio when weather permits. Went in for dinner and had a 20 minute wait around 6pm which was fine. So went to the bar to get a drink while others shopped. Sat there for 15 minutes and was not acknowledged by the manager who was behind the bar making drinks or the other girl that was helping. I tried to be patient but it became a real problem for me. This place needs to learn how to acknowledge people that are coming in to spend money instead I felt invisible. There were 4 girls behind me doing the same thing. We all left and I will not be back. I want to begin this review by saying that Kyle is an awesome waiter, and he did a fantastic job. My friends and I went to Mi Cocina on Saturday evening, and we sat at a table in the bar area. It was busy, but we expected that on the weekend. It took awhile for our waiter to come to the table, but we soon realized that he was the only waiter working the bar area. There are 10+ tables in that section, so having only one waiter in that section is completely unreasonable. However, Kyle did his best to take care of us, and we were impressed with what he was able to do as one person. When we got our first round of frozen margaritas, they weren't frozen. Kyle was doing his best to keep chips and salsa at the table, and he got our queso order in quickly. The salsa was great, spicier than normal, but that is a good thing in my opinion. The white queso was okay... kind of watery. We put in another drink order, and we were half way through our food before they came out - it took about 45 minutes. My next drink was on the rocks, and it was great. The next round of frozen drinks for my friends were better as well. I think they just put the first round out before they had time to freeze. It took a long time to get our food. There were 4 of us. Two of us ordered nachos, and they were excellent. One of us ordered the enchilada dinner, and she said hers was great! I originally ordered the poblano chicken enchiladas, but they ran out of the poblano cream sauce. So I ordered the crispy chicken enchiladas. They were great and came with a little salad that was an unexpected treat. Towards the end of our 3 hour dinner, the manager realized that more staff was needed and started helping. It was just a little too late. Overall, I would say, the food was good, but the restaurant should be more prepared for the busy weekend crowd. read more

We have given Mi Cocina several chances, but this last time was the most disappointing. The food has always been subpar. We always expect to leave super satisfied and the food always falls short. This time, the meat was pretty flavorless and the taco shells were completely covered in grease. We ate some of the meat from the inside. The rice was dry and tasteless. Also, it seemed as though they missed our order because it took a really long time to get our food - other tables that came in after us were eating their meals way before us. Mi Cocina was a pleasant stop on Cherry street that I will most definitely visit again. Tulsa is a hub for Mexican food so whenever I go, I am always excited to try something new. FOOD : Let's cut to the chase here.. everyone just wants to know how the food was, duh. Well let's start with the salsa.. basically, my mouth is still on fire. Okay, not really.. - but kind of. The salsa is delicious and very fresh, but also very hot! We also ordered some queso blanco that was worth getting another 10 times, would definitely recommend. I ordered my classic chicken fajitas and was pleasantly surprised by their approach / spin to this dish in putting three wedges of fried potatoes on top.. interesting, but also surprisingly delicious. Somehow it paired well, so I just went with it. In terms of the chicken.. we'll I am drooling just thinking about it. I didn't get a single piece of chewy / fatty disgustingness, so that's always a win. I LOVED how it was seasoned and could've had three more breasts had they brought it out. I was a little bummed about the lack of bell peppers, there was about a fourth of a green bell pepper and a giant mountain of white onion... kinda lame, but didn't ruin the dish for me. I also really enjoyed the lack of oil that was on the plate, sometimes fajitas can be iffy and you'll get more oil then you will fajita - not here though, thank God. My sister also got the fajita and loved it, my mom liked her dish but my grandparents weren't super thrilled about theirs. Gramps said his was preeettyy cold, which isn't fun, and my grandma just wasn't dazzled by her plate. Overall, I'd give my fajitas a 8/10, the table at large would give the dishes in total about a 6. SERVICE / ATMOSPHERE : The service here is awesome. The waiters are overly nice and friendly and make you feel right at home. They definitely take care of you and have you feeling warm and welcome which I really appreciate. I think that's what my grandparents love the most about this place! The atmosphere is very upscale.. I was honestly surprised it was a Mexican place, and genuinely a bit skeptical.. usually the best Mexican is a hole in the wall gem that you'd never guess would change your life. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how up to par they were and the way they have spun Mexican to work in the aesthetic and vibe they want. It's very modern and dim inside, filled with beautiful art and a view into the kitchen while the chefs work their tails off. They also have outdoor seating that is beautiful! Little random insider tips - this place gets busy, so try and aim for stopping in before 6/6:30 when the crowds rev up. Also, they cook with canola oil for those who may be concerned. Lastly, they don't have black beans.. which is a major bummer, but it is what it is. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here and would definitely come back! I don't think this is a spot for the family as it is more pricey, but a great date night, night out with friends, or even a business outing -- mi cocina would make a great spot. read more

Not much to say here. The food is decent, chips and salsa are so so, queso was flavorless, the service was very good, nice interior. The prices are absurd, and do not reflect a good value. I walked out of there having paid (with tax and tip) $24 for three small brisket tacos and a little side of rice. I would expect to pay this at a state fair when my kid is tired and cranky and I'll pay just about anything to get them fed. Perhaps I am spoiled by other traditional Mexican restaurants who are often a very good value, but this felt like a huge cost for the quality of food. Would not return. Our most recent visit was sadly far below our expectations. Admittedly, we had a new server who forgot to put in our drink orders and rarely returned to the table after greeting us initially, but the more upsetting part is that he was too busy doing closing duties to provide service. He was folding napkins and restocking the expo station. We could see him. We flagged down the manager not one, not two, but three times! Isn't that a clear sign that something needs to be addressed? After being flagged down, the manager ended up bringing us our checks (and correcting them when they were inaccurate) and bringing us our to-go boxes because our server did not return to the table after our food came out, and not once did the manager apologize or verbally recognize that there was a problem. Also, the food quality wasn't what we're used to from Mi Cocina. Previously, sides of vegetables contained a colorful and fresh variety of greens and carrots (compare to my previous yelp photos), but this time, a side of vegetables was cabbage and mushrooms. Strange and not very good, especially when I know it has been so much better. I have also previously been able to substitute pork for chicken, but was not allowed at this visit. Not even with an upcharge. This place needs to work on their service, and not just the servers. Inattentive managers that don't identify and rectify problems is a problem here. We did not have a great experience on Mother's Day. It took awhile to have our order taken but after that the food took 45 minutes to come out and when it did one was completely wrong and one didn't come out at all. We did not want to wait for the entree to be remade so we just asked to have it taken off the bill and it was annoying but fine. However, the missing entree took another 15 minutes to come out after everyone else had their food. No explanation, no apology, no visit from the manager. We thought the food was below average but the rest of our party thought it was decent.
