I found the steak fingers to be overcooked and tasteless, but the rest was great. For me, the sopaipillas were the star. They were fresh, light, and delicious. I miss eating in New Mexico where it seems most dinners include them. I got a slice of carrot cake to go, and it too was delicious. It's around Central and Louisiana, and there are quite a few homeless people in the area. Normally the staff is pretty friendly and the restaurant is well run, but this visit they just seemed off. One thing I've noticed before is that once they realize you don't speak Spanish, the way they treat you can sometimes change. And being Mexican but not speaking Spanish shouldn't suddenly mean you get different service. ‍ The food was just okay this time. My carne asada was warm when it came out, and the meat wasn't as tender or juicy as I remember. There just wasn't anything that really stood out. They do give you chips and salsa, plus a little bit of queso, which is nice. I will say the atmosphere is fun and festive. If you're familiar with Latino culture, you'll definitely recognize the vibe here. It's lively and has a lot of character. Would I recommend it? Normally, yes. The ambiance was solid, with local artwork and pottery throughout the restaurant. While we were able to get seats immediately, the service was unacceptable. Gobble This had only one chef and one server, which meant that we had to wait 40 minutes for our food even though the restaurant was not crowded. If you are a restaurant in a major tourist area on a weekend, you cannot have just one chef and server for your guests. I got the chicken tacos, which were fine. However, they were not worth the high cost ($25) or the long wait. My wife got a pupusa platter with rice and beans, which cost $20. It came with one medium-sized pupusa and a small amount of rice and beans. This exact dish would cost less than half that amount in a big city. Even accounting for the tourist area higher costs, this was outrageous. There is far better Latin American and New Mexican cuisine in Albuquerque with better portions at more affordable prices; I would go elsewhere for that experience.
