Materva, a soda of mate herb

This is a cute little bakery! Only 4 tables. There are a number of pastries and treats, but a few sansandwich choices. I had a Cuban sandwich with my favorite Cuban soda, Marerva. I'd say 5 star rating based on what the place is, a small bakery with a few sandwiches. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was served in 4 minutes. Great service, ambiance and a delicious Cuban sandwich.

This was an okay lunch in a small place that's mainly takeout. They do have a few tables, but it's limited. We decided to eat in anyway. We both ordered sandwiches. I got a media noche and he got a Cuban sandwich. Even though we'd told them we were dining in, they wrapped them to go -- then took them back. Ten minutes later we got them again, but in open containers. I'm assuming they were heating them? Again, they were ok, but we've had much better. They also have croquettas and empanadas plus a few guava and fruit pastries that look in-house made. Then there's a whole counter section with pre-wrapped/pre-made coconut candies, cake squares, etc., etc. The lady at the counter was very nice. It helps to speak Spanish, but it's not necessary. I'm glad we tried them. Now we know.

In the mood for a Cuban sandwich and my wife found this little Cuban Bakery. I ordered a regular Cuban sandwich and my wife had her favorite Media Noche. Of course I had to have my Materva to drink. In a short time our sandwiches were ready and we sat at one of the four high top tables inside. They have croquettes of various types along with pastelles. The sandwiches were good and we opted to take the other halves "para llevar" (to go). Friendly service and a little spanish speeds up the ordering process.

Walked in a few minutes after them opening on Sunday morning to already find several people, but line went quickly. Lady took orders to get line down and then her and two other people started working on the orders. Simple, but efficient system for small mom and pop type bakery. Took about 8 minutes to get my order ready and then the owner rang me up. 10 minutes total wait after ordering and spent about 3-4 in line. Not bad at all for a busy shop. Ordered tostada, ham croquettes, Cafe con leche (latte), guava pastel, cheese pastel, and a fried stuffed potato w/ yuca. First time here so we wanted to taste a variety of their offerings. All for $14.35 seems like a great deal. Almost Like Calle Ocho Miami prices. Cafe con leche was perfect and the way I ordered it (light & sweet), served pipping hot. Tostada could have been a bit hotter, but still warm. Ham croquettes we're delicious, and the pastels were tasty, too. Wanted to take sandwich home for lunch, but remembered already have brunch plans so maybe in a couple days I'll swing around again.

I called and ordered a Sandwich de Lechón (pork sandwich) and it was ready in ten minutes. I wish I took a picture of the sandwich, but the smell was killing me and I devoured it. The woman working seemed nice and I'm glad with the service.

Oh my goodness, this place is good. Sure, it's tucked in a less then attractive shopping strip center... driving by, you might think you are going to a place that isn't right. But's it's okay, because this place is where you want to be. I love a good sandwich, a good Cuban is something which I love too, it's like the right meat combination, and if the bread is great, then you just won something that you didn't deserve. Here, the bread they use really sets it off. The bread holds the juices of the meat, but the crust is just that perfect, crunch, without the need for munching down. This is a quick review, but look, this is a SERIOUS HIDDEN GEM, go here and eat it, because you will be pleased with the simple, but honest food here.

I was inducted into this secret and I want to share... got an empanada craving? Come here!! There was a looong line for these delicious freshly baked well- filled empanadas... and they also have Peruvian tamales and I saw some nicely robust pan-con-chicharrón sandwiches... what can I say: we will go back to try them! As for this time, we tried and loved the meat empanadas: the filling was nice and full, no skimpy bits of meat: nice serving for $3.50. We tried the chicken tamal and it was okay, but dry but overall a nice flavor, and finally we tried the alfajores that were warmed up at the car and were they were very nice as well. There is a line. There are only 3 tables and 5 barstools on the side... most people order to go, but if you want to eat inside, you have to negotiate with the people sitting at the tables. Do not hesitate to "reserve" your spot. I waited until we were at the top of the line, and someone 6 people behind us with no order had already negotiated and sat at a table... regardless of the fact that she didn't get her food until after we had already finished eating: the table "system" sucked, but we got another one of the tables and most customers take their orders to go, so it was not that bad. Phew! Anyway: I am uncovering the hole in the wall and letting the world know that they can get their fill on empanadas in this little shop in Margate. Enjoy!!
