They, they had a shiny espresso machine and I needed my second fix of the day especially after my recent post lunch pizza slice snack. Superrrr cute Spanish breakfast spot. Yes American coffee pero hellooooo delicioso comida! I got the large cafe con leche, he got the cortadito. Both made perfectly. I loved the Spanish Sandwich with the croquetas in the middle!! The huevo rancheros were okay, you're better off with something else on the menu which there are a lot of options. The waitstaff was kind, the food came out fast and it was a good busy with people coming in eating and leaving, but not terribly busy where there is a long line. It is rare to find places that serve breakfast all day. After seeing American Coffee Shop a number of times, but not knowing what to expect, we went directly to YELP for the scoop! The location itself is to the point, just read the sign above the restaurant. You can dine outside or inside. Inside there is a row of tables across from the counter, seats at the counter, and around from the first row of tables, is another room with more tables. This means ample seating for a breakfast or lunch crowd. No frills here, just function. Regarding service, we received a pleasant greeting from the woman who took out order. The entire staff is nothing but friendly faces, which is awesome! We decided to try Cuban coffee for the first time. The coffee did not come in a tiny cup, as some places serve it. But it was smaller than the average coffee cup. A server brought it to our table, as we waited. We aren't crazy about coffee as millions are, but simply curious. Curious to see if it would make us take off like a rocket. Nah. It was tasty though, very tasty! Our order arrived in a timely manner, and we took it to go. Breakfast and lunch were on the menu. Decided to see if American Coffee Shop was up to snuff when it came to breakfast, and it definitely passed! One thing we loved was that it served grits in the same container with the omelet instead of inside a small Styrofoam container, which is usually for sides, e.g. potato salad, black beans. The Pan con Lechon was marvelous! We were ecstatic when we happened to find the second half of the sandwich in the container the next day. Totally forgot about it after eating the breakfast and half the sandwich. American Coffee Shop needs to be your new go to place for all day breakfast! When we walked in, they were super nice and friendly, sat us at a table and quickly served us. We ordered two cappuccinos, and it was such a sweet touch that she put some whipped cream on it for us. I saw the girls wiping down the tables and even wiping the walls, it goes to show how much they care about the environment here. As diners go American Coffee has a factors going for it. Most unique is the restaurant serves Cafe Olay which is quite an upgrade from standard diner coffee. And the foam is so tasty. There were no redeeming qualities to name from my experience at American Coffee Shop. My chicken quesadilla was the worst I've ever had. It was barley edible and I had a stomach ache after. The chicken was rubbery and fatty plus everything was very greasy. The other guest has a BLT which was not good either. Even the potato salad was gross. The service was decent, but I won't be giving them another chance. Once I get sick from any place, that's it! The empanadas listed as an appetizer are HUGE and could serve 2 people. We each ordered one, then devoured them as we both were hungry (and they were delicious) but ended up taking half our meals home. We both chose a Cuban dish for dinner. Hubby raved about his Cuban sandwich. I tasted the pork which was amazing with whatever secret marinade is used. My picadillo had great depth of flavor and I didn't find it muddied by grease as in the case at most places. It was well drained but not dry at all. It's served over white rice with a side of black beans. I enjoyed the beans which were nicely seasoned and complemented the meal very well. Too frequently chefs have a heavy hand with salt but not here. If you are looking to get out for a quick meal, look no further than American Coffee Shop, one of our friendly local businesses. South Florida has more than its share of diners but American Coffee Shop is set apart for a few reasons. First, this diner serves cafe olay which is an upgrade from standard diner coffee. Second, they serve much better quality bacon than the standard institutionalize version. Third, this place has an eclectic mix of Spanish speakers, workers and visitors that seems to mesh well. This little coffee shop is more like a 70's retro decor, diner joint with its booths, long counter, stools and various cool American pride murals on all the walls. I came in for a bite on an early Saturday afternoon. I was cheerfully greeted. I chose my seat/booth. The greeter brought me a menu & utensils right away and asked for my order. I advised it was my first time there and I needed time to review the menu. I also needed time to decide on breakfast or lunch, meal or sandwich. They have a decent sized menu with some good sounding options. Servers came by a few times, I felt a bit rushed to order so I asked for recommendations. After a couple of questions on the pork they use, I finally decided on a hot large cafe con leche and a Cuban sandwich. The hot cafe con leche came out right away. I was surprised when I got a regular sized coffee mug (as I had ordered a large) and that it had an American expresso flavor. It was more like a latte (with foam) than a cafe con leche (which doesn't have foam) but it was good. Ten or fifteen minutes later, out came the star of the show...their Cuban sandwich. The layered combination of their moist, savory chopped pork, salty Taylor ham, gooey Swiss cheese, pickles, tangy yellow mustard, Cuban bread (not cut from loaves, pre cut/made individual Cuban rolls) pressed together was impressive in its authenticity. The composition, fresh ingredients, flavor and taste were on point. I enjoyed it more with each bite. I was hoping for a server to come by during my feeding frenzy as I needed napkins and some water but it took a while before anyone came by again. The sandwich came with the option of potato salad or home fries. French fries were $1 extra and I wasn't really in the mood for French fries, yes I said that, so I ordered the home fries. The home fries were more like a potato pancake but crispy on just one side, the top. The bottom was creamy potato goodness with bits of minced onion. Delightful. Nelson, the owner, came by asked how the food was, I gave him kudos on the authenticity of his Cuban sandwich. Nice guy, good latte, great food. The service was friendly but a bit to eager at times and not attentive enough at other times. I got the feeling they might be new to the service industry. They have many good sounding menu options that I will be back to try. I would come here to have breakfast on the way to the beach, lunch on the way back, pick up some sandwiches to take to the beach or if I just happen to be in the area. We finally went to American Coffee Shop for dinner Saturday night and were so happy we did. They have a cafeteria counter on one side and another dining room on the other side. We went more for the Spanish portion of the menu and there was enough to choose from. We decided on a variety of items since we were not sure what the kids would like. We had an order each of the Chicken & Ham Croquettes, 4 Empanadas, their Grilled Cheese Sandwich which was packed with bacon & so much good stuff, the Cheesy Fries (also with bacon) and 2 Cheese Quesadillas. The Cheesy Fries were the hit of the night for obvious reasons! The Empanadas were a lot bigger than expected, but it was more dough than filling. The servers were excellent and the owner was always checking on everyone. They are normally packed for breakfast on the weekends, but we will try them for brunch. read more

We had a nice visit here recently. The seating is limited, and it felt a little chaotic when we first got there. At first we sat at the counter seating as there were no tables open. It was myself and the two kids. It was a little hard to talk with them, but eventually when a table opened up we moved so we could talk and look at one another. The drinks come in cans opposed to fountain drinks so no free refills. I ordered a cafe con leche and finished off my meal with some water.The kids ordered lemonade and sprite. I got the baconado omelet (I think that is the name) which was a special. The specials were listed on a board outside, and I couldn't find them anywhere inside so I had to walk back out and look. That comes with your choice of toast, and either potatoes or grits. The kids split a waffle and a side of bacon. Theirs came out first as they ran out of potatoes and were making them real fast. I was given other options, but I wanted to wait. My omelet was quite tasty. I am trying to remember what was in it..... spinach, provolone, bacon, and avocado. The portion was very big! I was pleasantly surprised. The waffle was plenty big for them to share, and the bacon was cooked very good and crisp. The staff was very kind, and a man named Nelson asked us how we heard about the restaurant and how our food was. He wished us a nice day and hoped to see us come back soon. The food was delicious. As a cuban from Miami, the cuban egg Benedict caught my eye since I've never seen anything like it before. So glad I decided to venture out, it was fantastic. Pork was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Highly recommend. Couldn't leave without a cafe con leche which also was good. My partner got the huevos ranchero omelette and pancakes.
