This is my second time coming here for the Tlayuda, a specialty dish from Oaxaca, and it continues to impress me. The portion size is very generous and easily large enough to share with another person. The service has been fast and friendly every time I've visited. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with bright colors and artwork that reflect the restaurant's cultural heritage. Even the television programming helps create an authentic atmosphere and gives visitors a glimpse into Oaxacan culture. I love that they offer such unique and authentic Oaxacan cuisine right here in Carrick. The tortilla is homemade and perfectly crispy, topped with high quality steak and delicious Oaxacan cheese. My favorite parts are the green salsa, avocado, and grilled green onions. I absolutely love them. If I could change one thing, I would ask for a little more avocado and grilled green onion. I also think some grilled corn, onions, and peppers would complement the dish nicely. The radishes were not my favorite addition because they did not seem to blend with the other flavors as well. The lettuce and beans added a nice touch, and overall the dish was flavorful, satisfying, and memorable. It is wonderful to have such authentic cuisine within walking distance of home. I am already looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu. The chicken enchiladas with either mole sauce or green salsa also caught my eye. read more

This is my favorite local Mexican restaurant. I lived in New York for about a decade and I loved ordering from a restaurant there that was also based on Oaxacan dishes. They make their chips in-House and I absolutely love them. The queso is a varying level of spice based on the day that you order - that's not something I really care about. Nine times out of 10 it's good. I like their enchiladas, their burritos, their tacos, their quesadillas. The only time I ever got something that I didn't like was only because it was too spicy. I will say, they are not consistent with the level of spice. The Horchata's are amazing. read more

Excellent. I've been hearing about the food truck for a while now, and it's great to see that they now have a brick and mortar destination. We ordered takeout, and every item we ordered was well packaged and well presented. I especially appreciated that the menu included a few items you don't see in many other places (e.g., huaraches). They make a point of having a few different vegetarian fillings for various items, but several items don't offer a vegetarian option and easily could (e.g., enchiladas). In terms of the details, the chips were the kind of thin restaurant variety that I enjoy but still had enough structure to hold some guacamole. We got two different salsas with our order: a verde and what I assume is their medium salsa. Both were nicely flavored and distinct. The huaraches isn't something I had seen in the past, and it almost seemed like some sort of pizza on a thin corn-based flatbread with refried beans and other toppings. It's certainly worth trying. The tostada wasn't what I was expecting. It was very nicely presented in a stacked arrangement (one tostada on top of the other), and they weren't overloaded with toppings. The mayonnaise listed on the menu was a little disconcerting but it really melded into the overall dish. We also got a spread of three different tacos: one each of the vegetarian options. The tacos were good, but were really upleveled with some extra toppings (extra salsa, sour cream, lime, etc.). That's basically the whole idea behind tacos. In general, this was a great place. The food was good. It was easy to place an order online. It was easy to find parking nearby. Great option for picking up some Mexican takeout with a touch of a regional flair. read more

I sampled each of the sauces. the green was more mild, the mole was rich, a medium red, then the BLAZING HOT RED, mmm, that had a kick! "I could feel on my lips for 5 min" This food is very similar to places in Mexico and Western States. My meal consisted of their burrito with shredded chicken which satisfying to my spice starved palate! The atmosphere is simple with fresh bright colors customary to cafes in the Mexico. I also found it interesting that they have a BYOB sign on the door as you enter! They also have 2 food trucks, which can be scheduled in advance for your events! My husband and I found the owner very friendly and passionate about her food. The server was prompt, helpful and when asked which was her favorite meal she said the enchiladas! Sadly my corn allergies prohibited that, yet I did try the enchilada sauces and WOW, I wanted to cry because they were delicious and reminded me of my home in So.Cal, where Mexican food was a staple of my diet. I no longer need to wait for a Mexican vacation or my visit back to my hometown. If prefer bland and boring food this may not be the place for you, unless you omit the best part the sauces. I moved away from Pittsburgh 9 months ago, and El Rincón is the place I miss the most. I used to be a regular at their food truck in Lawrenceville and was happy to make the trek out to Carrick when they opened their brick-and-mortar restaurant. Their carnitas are the best I've ever had; they absolutely melted in my mouth. The tortillas (homemade I think?) make everything that much better. The service is always fantastic; Mario and his family are always so kind and welcoming. Can't recommend this place enough. If I'm ever back in PGH this will be my very first stop. read more

This food truck has some of our favorite tacos in Pittsburgh. They're so simple and authentic. We really liked the steak and al pastor tacos. They were so flavorful and they have sauces on the side you can add for some more kick to them too. I like how add grilled scallions and radishes to your tacos as well. They are a bit on the smaller side so I would get 3 for a meal. We also got a burrito and while it was huge, it wasn't as good as the tacos. This food truck was on technology drive for our Friday lunch option. Since I had no lunch for the day it seemed like a great option to try. Employees at the food truck were friendly and quick to offer information about the food. I selected my attached food choices and waited only about 5 minutes (end of lunch hour). Food prices were good ($10 for 3 tacos and $12 for burrito) and portions were plentiful, the burrito was really filling and I needed no sides to supplement. The available salsas were tasty with a touch of spice, though I didn't try the extra spicy salsa. Soyrizo had a touch of spice as well but very good. One thing to note--if you are more of a fan of creamy, cheesy Mexican food, this is a bit different. Their meat and similar products are more shredded and seasoned with less sauce, which I personally enjoyed and allowed for more salsa on top! Definitely will try again. read more

We just happened to find this awesome food truck where we parked while in the strip district. It was literally in our parking lot! So Mexican food is our thing and this place did not disappoint. They had a pretty big menu to select from. I went with the chicken quesadilla and it was spectacular, best one I've had in fact. My boyfriend went with the barbacoa tacos and said they were delicious. He said they were the best barbacoa he's had since moving here from California. That's golden if you ask me. I believe this food truck is consistently in the Strip District, but today, I saw them near Inner Groove Brewing and decided to give them a try. Ordered the barbacoa burrito and churros. The wait time is decently quick and they give you buzzers so you know when the order is ready. This truck also has Mexican pop music playing, creating a great atmosphere. I was originally hoping to try their tres leches cake, but they weren't serving it today. Next best dessert is the churro, so I tried them. Decent portion but the flavor was what really stood out. They we're still warm, hard a great crisp, and slight chewiness of the interior. They also have some chocolate and sugar drizzled around them. Definitely recommend them. The barbacoa burrito was good, but had some flaws. The meat is absolutely delicious. So flavorful and cooked perfectly. I'd get a plate of just the meat and a side if I could. For $11, the portion is alright. Not too big or too small. In my opinion, they used too much lettuce. It was all jumbled together near the center, and just wasn't good. Rice was middle of the road, but well cooked. I thought there would be more cheese. Its just a few small pieces, and they don't add much flavor. Beans are tasty and seasoned well. All in all, this place makes amazing meat. The burrito itself, though (rice and amount of lettuce) was good but not great. Churros are delicious. They may be out of some items and the price for the burrito (and other entrees) was $1 more than listed on their website. read more

Holy molé! This place hails from southern Mexico and the land of the 7 molés does not disappoint. Just go and order the enchilada with molé negro. Oh my god. The cheese in the stuffed chili tastes especially imported-- like a mozzarella. The corn tortillas are incredibly creamy, soft and toasty. I love this taco truck! It's super close to me in the Strip and it's across from the Chinese supermarket so I can get lunch and shop for dinner at the same time. It's run by some really hardworking people - they get to the truck early and they're open what seems like all the time to me. The food also seems pretty authentic, although I am no expert in Mexican food. I've tried the tacos, quesadillas, huaraches, the hibiscus agua fresca, flan, and churros. The soyrizo, steak, barbacoa, and adobada pork are all delicious. They're aromatic, perfectly cooked, and keeps me coming back for more!
