This restaurant is SO DELICIOUS!!! The staff are so friendly but not over the top and ALWAYS get your order right and your food out quickly and HOT. The restaurant itself is very clean and tidy. My boyfriend and I come regularly because it's cheap, relatively healthy, and always hot and absolutely delicious with super generous portions. Well, I've got a bunch of negatives for this place, and only two positives. Somehow I think those two positives are enough to pretty much balance out all the other negatives though. Although of course don't get me mistaken, if there was a choice, I definitely would not consider coming back to this place unless I had no other option. First of all, the service was pretty bad. They didn't really seem to care to pay attention when you walked through the door to seat you, my waitress barely spoke or understood English, and apparently you need to get up from your table and track someone down to be able to get a knife and napkins and anything else you may need since all you were given was a fork and a straw (since obviously no one pays attention to you even if you constantly look around and give signs like you're waiting on service). For some reason they decided that they would only bring my food out all at once. So I sat there munching on some usual complementary chips, while I waited for my appetizer, main course, and deserve to all be brought to me together. Which I kind of found a little weird. Definitely not the most convenient thing. The food itself was alright. Nothing outstanding, but decent. Honestly, everything was just a little too salty for me. Especially the grilled shrimps, which felt like they were coated in layers and layers of pure salt. Almost to the point where I continued them. I think if the food wasn't salty, despite it being pretty bland, would be pretty decent. Now that I put you through all of that, you may be wondering at last, what are the two positives! Well first of all, it's the price of what you pay and the portions you get. If everything else I said wouldn't matter to you, then this is definitely the place to come for a deal. It is extremely economical to eat here, as you got some outstanding value for your money. The second positive...churos! Service was adequate. The food was plenty to fill us up but very bland. We both ordered combos that came with two tacos and two small burritos, one chicken and one beef. I ordered the queso on top of the burritos at an extra charge. It was literally drizzled across and was nearly dried up. My husband ordered the red sauce that is standard and it was the same. We love this place!! My sis & I just moved to Fayetteville from TEXAS...so we KNOW good Mexican food. And I can say hands down: El Rio is legit! I'm so happy we have a yummy Mexican food restaurant nearby. It's got tex-mex vibes big time. The $2 margaritas on Mondays definitely take care the usual "case of the Mondays". I don't know the secret to happiness. But I can tell you this. I am never sad at a Mexican restaurant.

Our waiter was really rude.. and it was more expensive than other more popular Mexican restaurants in this area. We were beyond sick when we saw the amount our bill was.. My daughter and I ordered the fajita nachos with chicken like we always get and the cheese dip on it was insanely spicy. Our waiter mentioned it was like the cheese dip you get to dip the chips in. My daughter couldn't eat it because of how spicy it was. It was completely different than the one you dip the chips in. Not to mention the portion sizes are extremely small... we literally left hungry. They don't have sizes when it comes to cheese dip or any dip rather. I don't think we'll back.. It looks really nice on the inside, but don't let it fool you. read more

Very disappointing, lacking in flavor. Had Texas fajitas for two. Shrimp was good. Chicken and steak were bland. Frozen drinks were weak and watered down. We came for a visit during Bridge Day Weekend. Unsurprisingly, the place was extremely packed, but we decided to give it a shot. The ambience was what you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant, and I can't say much about the loudness (people were a little tipsy, so it's to be expected). The food was good (not outstanding, but still quite tasty). I had the Pollo Adobe; a good mix of vegetables, the chicken was marinated very nicely, and the dish had tons of cheesy goodness. If I could rate on just the entree, I'd give it four-stars. The problem was with service. I understand that staff members were busy, but I think we saw our waiter a total of three times; once to give our order, once to receive it, and once for the check. We ran out of salsa way before we ran out of tortilla chips (so we ate them dry while waiting for our server to return), and we both ran out of tea well before finishing our meals (thirstiness is never a good thing in a restaurant). Since we didn't see our waiter and the rest of the waitstaff was darting about trying to handle the crowd, we didn't really have much of an opportunity to ask for refills on anything. Subtly putting empty dishes on the side of the table to catch someone's attention didn't seem to work, either. A good meal but overall a very disappointing experience. I'd probably try the restaurant again on a less busy day but unfortunately can't recommend as-is. read more

After hiking all day, I built a big appetite & was craving Mexican food. This was the closest restaurant to me. I was immediately greeted and the waiter was super nice so 5 stars for that. Since I ordered to go, I didn't realize how disappointed I would be until I got back to the hotel. The taco salad bowl was doused in a white liquid substance & felt like I was eating a soup. It was extremely basic & sadly, the worst taco bowl I've ever had. The Mr.'s beef burrito was just ground beef, nothing special. So assume if it says beef, they mean ground beef. He felt bad for me so he gave me his side of guac. When I started eating it with some chips, I just gave up. It was store bought, plain guac. I'm Mexican myself, & there's nothing more disappointing then being let down by your own people , specially when you're trying to support the local businesses in the area. read more

Polite staff, but they were not able to answer basic questions about the menu. When ordering nachos, be very specific what you want on them, as their idea of nachos seems to be limited to specific meat and cheese, and even then not in vast quantities. Drinks were watered down severely. The house jumbo marguerita tasted like a store bought mix minus the alcohol. Companion's mixed drink was all mixers. Nice place, but would not return. read more

This is the best Mexican food that I have had. Some of these other reviews are during a very busy day (Bridge Day). You have to give the servers a little bit of slack on days like that, come on man! If anything Rio's has improved in recent years..better margaritas, improved decor, and tasty food delivered quickly. Very fast service. We received our drinks in two minutes. We had grilled quesadia. One with chicken and one with steak. Both were seasoned perfectly and served warm. They serve warm tortilla with two dips as a free appettizer. I strongly recommend it. read more
