On our travels we stopped at El Bandido for dinner in Beckley. Great decision! Let me start off by saying all employees are male, Latino descent and all wore the same dress. Our service was excellent. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas, chicken quesadilla with cheese dip and a beef burrito. Excellent food!! Nice place with friendly staff. This location is very close to some of the various hotels in the area, so it was very easy to walk over from the Courtyard Marriott and avoid driving at all. The food was about on par with what you would find at a traditional Mexican restaurant in this part of the country. I ended up ordering the Camarones al a Diabla, and they were pretty decent. The sauce was nicely flavored, though there was less of it than I expected. The balance of shrimp and other sides was good, and the portion wasn't over the top. Overall, a pretty good meal. In terms of the vibe, I would say it's very Mexican. The television in the bar was set to a Spanish language channel. I was able to communicate just fine, but there was a bit of a language barrier with the bar tender. Not a problem. I actually view that as a sign of authenticity. I'll also note that they seemed a little short-staffed on the night I showed up. Everyone was extremely busy, so service was a little slow but still attentive. Everyone there was trying their best to keep up. All told, I would recommend this place. Not an over the top dining experience, but it was very clearly a locally owned place with a good vibe and lots of character. read more

10/10 would recommend. I have had fajitas in over 30 states, and I didn't expect to have such amazing ones in WV. I loved that the shrimp fajitas came with broccoli and zucchini and everything was seasoned so well. Service was an added bonus- quick, attentive, and friendly! Was staying overnight across the street so we decided to try this place since we love Mexican food. We ordered the mix fajita with chicken, beef and shrimp. It came with flour tortilla, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole and sour cream. It was sizzling hot and seasoned well. They start off every table with chips and salsa. Salsa has a little kick to it but my boys still ate it and loved it. Got one tamale and it was good, not dry at all. I also got a frozen lime margarita. It was huge by my standard and only $6.99usd! Anyways it was good and definitely had double the alcohol in it. We enjoyed this sit down meal and everything was super affordable. It was very delicious. I enjoyed their Arroz Con Pollo and of course their chips and queso. That is true girl dinner. My friend had a meal that came in a pineapple with shrimp and chicken I believe. The inside was just fine, and the service was just fine, nothing exceptional. read more

It's just another Mexican restaurant... I am always a little critical of Mexican restaurants because there is a tendency to be like so many other Mexican restaurants. This is just another mediocre Mexican restaurant. The interior was nice, but what you would expect. The service was really bad. The food was good - I had the cheese steak burrito. Stayed in the area for the night and this is where we ended up eating dinner. Friendly helpful staff. Loud atmosphere=perfect to bring kids! Me and my wife went there to try it out as this is our first time in the area. The service was terrible. When we walked into the restaurant the lady greeted us and than walked away, we thought we were to follow her we was wrong and instead a guy server took over and sat us. When we spoke to the waiter in Spanish (our first language) he seems offended and after taking our order never came back to the table. The food itself was bad, tasted sickly sweet and made my wife sick to her stomach. Not even half way through our meal we left unable to finish it.
