This place is great! One of the best Mexican restaurants I've eaten at in a while. And surprisingly it was an easy pull-off of the Interstate. I appreciated that we had multiple servers, so there was never a delay in meeting our needs. We started with the homemade chips, salsa, and white sauce. The white sauce isn't something we typically get at home, so it was a pleasant surprise. My husband and I chose the Quesadilla Rancheras, a basic dish, as we had a large lunch and weren't overly hungry. It was stuffed with chicken, cheese, and veggies. As a California girl on a road trip, I decided to try what was touted as the best Mexican spot near my hotel. Despite some hesitation, I gave it a shot based on recommendations. The place had a nice ambiance, with Latin pop music playing. Latin pop is not what I'm used to. The menu offered many options, I had a hard time choosing. However, my experience quickly went downhill. When I asked the server for a recommendation, he hesitated and admitted he didn't know. If a Latino employee isn't confident about the menu, that's a red flag. They served us chips, salsa, and ranch. The ranch with chips was unusual and not good at all. I don't know if that's a local thing, but I wouldn't recommend it. My friends ordered cheese enchiladas, which turned out to be quite unappetizing with an odd-tasting cheese. I ordered the quesabirria, which was just okay and probably the best item we had. The horchata was clearly made from a powdered mix and tasted subpar. Overall, the food and drinks were disappointing and overpriced. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend this place. Honestly, Taco Bell would have been a better choice. read more

Campestre has a great location right off the interstate with a nice building that's modern in vibe and ambience. I've been there for casual dining, business meetings and even dates. However last several times the service has been terrible to say the least. No one to greet you at the hostess stand and employees walking by avoiding eye contact. How hard is it to say "someone will be with you in a moment." Last night the cheese dip we ordered literally sat on our table for 10min before they brought any chips out. Even I had to say, "you've brought the cheese dip but never any chips." Really made me wonder what she was thinking. Even when we asked for containers, she brought 1 small box for the table. I've had the same bizarre and lackluster service multiplier times and even when ordering carryout. Now it's just par for the course. They've recently raised their menu prices, likely due to inflation. Seems like the minimum per entree is $11.50. If you need a convenient stop off the interstate, with nice ambience and decent food then this is the right spot. Don't expect much from service or value. read more

I had never eaten at Campestre in Beckley before, so I thought I'd check them out for lunch one day. Wow...this is the lunch portion of steak fajitas. I've never seen a lunch portion so huge. I had to bring home leftovers because I couldn't eat it all. Downside, it was a little more expensive than other Mexican restaurants. For instance, I love Carne Asada tacos and those were like $18 or $19. I don't want to pay that kind of money for a quick lunch, lol. This lunch special with a drink and a tip still $22. read more

Traveling with my dad and just looking for some good food after a day of driving and hiking. This place got great reviews and I can definitely see why. My dad had one of the quesadillas and he loved it. The chicken was grilled and smoky and it was balanced by a big salad. I got grilled salmon with veggies and rice. They try hard here. The team cares about their work. I go regularly, mostly for convenience. Food is decent not amazing. Service is medium level sometimes sub par but not for lack of trying. Just seems like there's unknown pressure on them. Prices are a smidge above market rate. Decor is very nice. They tend to want to cram us in crowded side sections so we always as for the open dining room when that happens. Can't really go wrong picking this place. Great for work meeting, date night, family gathering what ever... Just be patient with the staff they seem stressed out. Very standard chain Mexican restaurant. There was a kitchen mix up with my order, which stinks because I have allergies and I was allergic to something they first served me. Fortunately I didn't eat it, and my server got it fixed right away. He was very careful when I first informed him of my allergies. I wanted the taco salad and he told me the taco shell (although flour) was fried in the same oil as the corn tortillas. He proposed that they could just grill me a flour tortilla, whiCh was great! They accidentally served me the fried one anyway, but again - it was fixed quickly. We also ordered the cheese dip appetizer. Since I can't eat the corn chips, I got extra flour tortillas. Delicious Mexican food, friendly staff, in Beckley, West Virginia. I created my own dinner, with a chicken tomorrow, which is made here at the restaurant. Also enjoyed a chicken enchilada. The create your own dinner comes with the rice and beans, and of course the obligatory chips, salsa, and a cheesy dip. Beckley remains our stop when eastbound from St Louis to the shores of North Carolina and Campestre has become our convenient place for Mexican dinner. Our first visit was OK, although I was disappointed that they did not have carnitas, or pork in green sauce or egg dishes. (correction, I just missed them on the menu the first two times. They have both) I was OK with my camarones in Diablo sauce but certainly wanted to keep trying their fairly broad menu. This time Ms T had her ever-popular taco salad. She liked the ground beef seasoning and the salad I n general. Her only comment that it was light on the lettuce, which is unusual. I ordered Chorri-Pollo and it was easily a four-star dish. The chicken was grilled perfectly, not dried out and their chorizo was excellent. It almost seemed like it had a little tarragon in the seasoning. This is the second time in about two weeks where I have had tarragon in chorizo in a Mexican restaurant, although about 1000 miles apart. I liked it very much and ate too much. Their refried beans are nothing special. The texture makes me think they are canned and perhaps thinned a little. Their rice however is very good. After this visit to Campestre, I am pretty sure this will be our place when we pass through 2-3 times each year. I look forward to the Chorri-Pollo again, but need to keep trying things. Maybe I should ask if they will make me huevos con chorizo, now that I know they have very good chorizo. Update - December 2017 - This time I actually found the pork section. It is small, having only two items. I ordered Pork Chile Verde and it was pretty good. The sauce is tomatillo based and I wished for more. One should probably ask for extra sauce. The pork was good, fairly tender and well flavored. It seemed like it might have been a little more from the loin than I would prefer rather than the shoulder as it should be. Never-the-less, it is definitely worth ordering. read more
