My husband and I pass this restaurant quite often and always see a lot of cars in the parking lot so we decided to take it upon ourselves to take a little road trip about 30 minutes out to see if this restaurant stood Above the Rest. We decided to dine in this past Friday... there was no wait to be seated. The Ambiance of the restaurant is pretty standard we were able to move around freely so it's not crowded inside. The service was fast as expected when we visit Mexican restaurants. We received the complimentary basket of chips with salsa I must say the salsa was pretty spicy and I like spicy but this has been the spiciest sauce that I've had at restaurants. If you don't like spicy proceed with caution if you consume the red sauce. The service was on point basically once we ordered we received our food within minutes. The restaurant was fairly busy even though there was some seats available people definitely were dining in ordering to go orders as well. I don't recall our waiter's name but he was on point he got our orders correct my husband and I we ordered the tacos ground beef as well as the chicken and just my opinion I don't like the chicken which is the shredded chicken that they offer I need to remember to ask for the grilled chicken instead. The margarita was mid. Nevertheless I did consume all three tacos definitely fulfilling. I can't say that they are better than the next Mexican restaurant but definitely solid here. Yo. Fastest dishes ever. Even for a group of 11. Like we got sat pretty fast too. Margs were go go going. Like it took them 2 minutes to make a jumbo mango. What a blast. Classic Mexican dishes with a little bit of American flair to the country folks there, but I mean, the portions are large, the food is great , and the drinks are flowing. Truly the BEST Mexican restaurant around. We have never been disappointed. Everything about it is great - the food obviously, drinks, prices, and the wonderful staff. Firstly, the restaurants service was fantastic. We had a large group, they sat us immediately and as we sat they were giving us chips and salsa which was delicious. The chips were served warm and the salsa was very good with the perfect amount of spice. Then we ordered drinks. The drinks arrived seemingly as some of our party was still ordering their drinks. The ambiance was nice. Small place but bigger inside than out. It seemed very clean and there was some old classic Mexican music playing the background. This was our first time here and the parking lot was packed. We were immediately seated and our server brought out chips, dip, white sauce and water. I really like thin warm chips so these were right up my alley. The salsa was good - I prefer spicy but this was good. I didn't care for the white sauce though. Our food came out very quickly. Everything was so good. The fajita quesadilla was so big, we could have shared it!!! I'll have over 1/2 of it for lunch tomorrow. All of the employees were really nice. On our trip to Maryland we needed food and my daughter wanted nothing other than Mexican food. She doesn't usually stray from our "faves" but since we were out of our area she decided this would do. Pouring down rain we stopped to order to go- customer service when you walk in the door already top notch. The young lady at the counter was cheerful and gave us menus. I noticed a bar with a few people enjoying drinks - had I not been traveling i think I would have enjoyed chilling for a bit. Environment is friendly, cozy, obviously a local favorite- many local people came in and she knew them by name. The menu is HUGE! it took us about 5-7 minutes to figure out what we could eat while driving. We searched to see if they have the "white sauce" (that we have never experienced until VA) they have it- but we decided we didn't want to add it just because we are attempting to be "budget friendly " Settled on good ol Birria Tacos. It really only took about 5 minutes for the order - the young lady was generous and asked if we wanted a drink while we waited and we declined. When we got our order and ran like hell to our car because it was storming and raining like the Earth was ending- We noticed chips, salsa and ... the WHITE SAUCE! Before we even pulled away we decided to try it-- I don't know y'all but I think they have nailed it. The chips were warm, the sauce had just the right tang. We devoured those first. The tacos were good too they just weren't as crispy as we like our Birria tacos but there was definitely nothing wrong with them. After having a wonderful experience eating at the Norfolk location and taking the recommendation of Ashley, I stopped at the Windsor location as she said her brother and family manage that operation. I'm glad she told me about the extra parking in the back as I had been tempted to stop by before but the parking appeared always full. What an excellent experience. Her brother Andy greeted me at the door and I received excellent service from Johnny during my visit. My glass never went empty and Andy stopped by multiple times to check on me. I ordered the same dish the Parradilla fajita and the food was excellent. Make sure to ask for the homemade hot sauces they are awesome. Ate here for the first time been coming to Outer Banks for over 40 years pasted this place for many years. The family and I decided to try it out. The food, the service, the staff was fantastic. My daughter and I each got chimichangas, the shredded beef and carnitas and were wonderful. Both were very flavorful and tender. Chips come out warm, salsa has the right flavor, and told you can ask for the different types of salsas because they have more than red. An extremely popular Mexican restaurant located in Windsor, and there's a reason that it is...the food is authentic, large portions and delicious, the friendly staff provide excellent and prompt service, the atmosphere is inviting and pleasant. The bar has additional seating for enjoying beverages. Only drawback is that it can be crowded and waiting for a table can be fairly long, especially on Taco Tuesday and Wings Wednesday. My wife and myself had our 4th dinner date here tonight. I used a gift card to put towards the dinner tab. Card showed declined after server ran it 3 times. I verified and showed gift card balance to my server after paying with a personal card and my server told me "thank you have a good night" and walked off as if he didn't want to hear me constructively-criticize him for not knowing how to run a gift card as payment and as if I was not a paying patron and did not care that I had to use a personal payment card instead of a gift card I wanted to use instead. That was extremely rude and I honestly thought I found a decent Mexican eatery nearby but will just go elsewhere where my opinion and any form of valid payment is accepted, the employees know how to run a gift card as acceptable payment, have a better attitude,can also hear, comprehend and resort to a proper solution in a timely fashion that is a huge concern for their business to function due to someone who is incompetent and does not care. From one business owner to another, my employee would be held accountable for such ignorance as that does not meet my standards of business conduct on or off the clock. I am not saying this establishment isn't clean or any of that nonsense. I don't know if this server was having a bad night and didn't want to be there or whatever. We all have issues and such. But. Sometimes business is business and it was a poor attempt. I enjoyed the few visits but this is a dealbreaker for me and it unfortunately cost you all. I would rather go to the gas station next door and get some bottom shelf cooler food instead of dealing with such shit hospitality. 1 star for the food, otherwise I would 0% this review.
