The restaurant is located in a shopping mall in little Franklin, VA. We were told it is the best Mexican restaurant in Virginia. We are visiting from Tx and feel that Mexican restaurants in Tx are the best. The ambiance was very nice, clean, tables were laid out in an orderly fashion with room to walk and move around. The service was quick and consistent. I was most impressed with the waitstaff. They were on the ball, attentive and didn't skip a beat with service, refills or napkins. The food was fresh and good tasting. Different from the Mexican food and flavors of Texas, but pretty good for VA. We got the fajitas and taco platter. The meat was paned fried (Tx grills) with all the fixings. The tortillas were really good and fresh, beans were a bit bland for my taste, the tortilla chips were thick and not to my liking but the salsa was ok. The white sauce is not good at all. They told me is was a sauce made from milk , sugar and flour and served with chips- not sure. I have never seen this before in Tx, so idk. I will say that their Tx margaritas were the bomb! Left there as take-out and it was fresh leaving , and the wife arrives to the hotel which is just a jump away. I ordered the Ranchero Chef's Special. Steak was dry and chewy like bubble gum! We normal go to suffolk to our favorite spot but decided it was a long day lets stay close. And that was a waste. Waste of time n money. read more

We are new in town, we decided to try this place. I'm going to get to the point. I ordered a water with ice. Looked at my ice I had a baby dead roach in the ice. I didn't make a scene, I went up to the bar area where my waiter was but another worker came over asked was what wrong I showed him the ice, he grabbed the tissue out my hand real quick, closed it up and said sorry. I should have left due to that but I didn't. Our food came, the rice and beans was HORRIBLE!! All 3 of us left the rice and beans. After that I went over to our waiter so he can explain a charger that was on the bill and as I was standing there talking to him, a roach is just walking on the floor like nothing. I told him LOOK that's disgusting, he said oh and just stepped on it!!! I don't know how restaurants are ran around here but where I am from places get shut down for this!!! read more

They think they are smart, speaking in spanish while talking about you right in front of your face, but I know exactly what they are saying. 0 If only I could give an establishment zero stars. We ordered curbside and once we opened one of our dishes we discovered a BUG. Expecting them to be respectful and refunding our money they asked us "why didn't we want to eat our food" and to bring the dish back to prove to them that there was actually a bug. Once we got there they gave an excuse of "this has never happened before so we don't know what to do". Ultimately we received our money back without an apology for being inconvenience for our time and hunger. Needless to say we will NEVER order from here again and advise you to save your time and money. read more

El Rachero strikes you as the typical "white washed" Mexican food that is so popular here in Virginia. It has a large menu with what seems like a good selection- we had high hopes. Since they had on there my daughter's favorite and mine. That being Chile Colorado and Chile Relleno. They begin by giving you a basket of warm crunchy tortilla chips with a fresh salsa and the infamous "Virginia white sauce" (I can't really tell if it's suppose to be RANCH or cheese .. or cheesy ranch or ranch cheese) no matter what- I actually liked their version of this weird white stuff. I ordered a Lunch combo with a crunchy taco , Chile relleno and rice & beans for just $7.50... really decent price. The taco was good as were the rice and beans. The Chile relleno - had a very melty sour cheese I've never tasted before and after one bite I was done. My daughter was excited for her Chile Colorado but after it came and it was obvious they just sliced up some carne and threw some sauce on top it was obvious it wasn't marinated in the sauce- and it was chewy and tough. But.. she liked the rice and beans. That was 11.99 not a bad price but considering she didn't enjoy it, it was too much. My other girl got the chicken enchiladas lunch for 7.50$ 2 enchiladas with a pink sauce , covered in lettuce, tomato and sour cream, rice and beans. Her rice tasted sour, but she enjoyed the weirdly colored enchiladas. It looked like they mixed enchilada sauce with sour cream and smothered the enchiladas with that. For dessert we got Sopapillas - for 2.50$ we got 4 perfect little bites of cinnamon sugar crunchy tortillas with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. The best part of our meal. It was busy so the atmosphere was good, they obviously get a lot of business , a lot of regulars. Prices are not terrible.. that's a bonus.. it just really was not my type of Mexican food. read more

The food is served really fast and smoking hot, even when they are scrambling busy, the wait staff is always happy to see you! I visited here for dinner a couple of weeks ago. I decided on the shrimp fajitas. First to come out was the obligatory chips and salsas. They provided two types of salsa and I thought both were good. The red sauce was typical but the other sauce was a light colored cream sauce that had a slight lemony flavor to it. The waiter told me it was based on a salad dressing flavor. I liked it too (3.5). Less than 10 minutes later the fajitas came out on a sizzling platter. There was an adequate amount of shrimp and vegetables on the platter. It was a good meal (3.5). Their charro beans were good too. Table service was good. I give the overall experience a 3 and recommend you try eating here. I would be happy to return. read more

Best Mexican restaurant you will ever go to! If you're visiting Franklin, this is one of the best restaurants in town! I always get the "Alambre", which is grilled chicken, peppers, onions, with cheese sauce on top, and served with a side of rice or beans. But the real reason I go here is not because of the meal, it's for the white dipping sauce that they serve with the chips, BEST SAUCE IN THE WORLD. read more

The food was good, no complaints about it. But the Margaritas was terrible, I asked for pina colada margarita and taste terrible , so I asked to change for something else and they come with atitude, saying they are not allowed to change and they already have a complaint about it, I told the waitress if they have a complaint so why they don't change and do better. a minute agoNEW I won't ever eat here AGAIN!!!! The day after I eat at this restaurant, my card is charged an extra $2 for a tip that I didn't authorize. When I called the restaurant, they stated that it looked like $2 on the the receipt in the tips, but my total didn't reflect it. So after this, they tell me to come in for my refund and they couldn't put it back in my card unless they had the card, but this is after they charged my card without having it. Now I will spend more in gas going to get the $2 than $2. DON'T EAT HERE UNLESS YOU PAY CASH. THEY MAY STEAL MORE MONEY NEXT TIME!!!! read more

Great restaurant in a non-descript strip mall right off Hwy. 58. Service was excellent and friendly. All of our food was spot-on and delivered piping hot within minutes. I especially liked my Pollo Crema and have an inkling of ripping off the recipe for home. Mmmmm. The rice and beans were typical but the salsa served with the chips was spicy without ruining your pallette. I could have drank it as a chaser to my shot of 1800. On Friday the 13 me and the family went in to eat got our food kids were fussy so we took it to go got home there was a big piece of the plate missing on plate didn't think nothing of it until I got home and took a bite of my seafood quesadilla and felt a crunch and pain in the right side of mouth I called the restaurant and informed the manager lulu of what happened and was told to come back in and talk to her or Pedro and would get our meal on the house she was not there so had to talk to Pedro he was very rude and did not hold true to what his fellow coworker stated so drove an hr to be disrespected and ruin mine and my wife's night out and wasted gas read more

Husband and I (mid-fifties) came here for dinner one evening. Service was fast and friendly. Sangria and margaritas were on the sweeter side. Chips were warm and crunchy and salsa was yummy. It's a very casual but inviting atmosphere. Taco salad was enormous - a bit on the heavy side - lots of sour cream and creamy cheese. Not enough tomatoes and other colorful toppings,m but still tasty. Carne asada was good. I would definitely come back here! read more

They always greet you with a smile, they've renovated recétanos it's beautiful. We always get the same things, but recently we've tried their tacos and they are so authentic to what you'd get in Mexico. Corn tortillas and barbacoa, or the marinated pork with cilantro and onions. Their portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. Their drinks are so good too. Their margaritas are to die for, not skimpy on the tequila. read more

Well I was really enjoying the food here, not many decent places to eat in Franklin at all. Yes, the service is fast but I've encountered several rude employees consistently. Yesterday went to eat with a friend for lunch and after I had to ask for replacement silverware because mine was dirty with food stuck on it, a nice roach decided to join me on the wall about head level in the booth we were sitting at. No they did not charge us for our meal which was appropriate but we did tip. None of the employees seemed phased or surprised by the la cucaracha and continued to use the service station right behind our booth to stack all the dirty dishes and also make several service of guacamole. The food was okay.. I usually come and it's really good. The last 2 times it's just been bad. They rushed me and my sisters out literally, we weren't even done eating. We asked for refills and he said "Box" the proceed to bring me a box, so we asked again and he said "to go" just very very bad service. Cute little hole in the wall. Service was alright, food was great. My husband had ordered a coffee and a water and the waitress didn't remember his coffee. The chips that were brought out to the table were nice and warm, seemed to be made fresh there. They came with a salsa, and some sort of queso dip. With my 'Special #9' I chose Mexican rice, instead of beans, which were delicious. Probably some of the best I've had at a restaurant. The beef enchilada we got with our 'Special #10' was decent, it came w/ground beef though-which I don't recall being specified on the menu. And the waitress didn't ask if we wanted ground of shredded, which they usually do-at other Mexican restaurants at least. We waited a reasonable amount of time for our food, as there were other people dining as well. When it came time for the check though-we had to wait at least 10min. Overall though, for the prices, and the food. I would definitely return if I lived in the area and I was looking for some non-fast food Mexican. read more
