Si Señor 2 is hidden in plain sight on the Coralville strip and is the sister location to the must-have Mount Vernon location, Si Señor. It took a few tries for me to determine my thoughts but I give it a solid 3.5, rounded up. The menu has something for everyone, the staff is attentive, pricing is on par (though the margaritas are a bit pricey IMO), the inside has plenty of seating and is able to accommodate large groups. The locale is convenient with plenty of parking. My last visit was a random Thursday around 5. The place was a ghost town. I got a large frozen margarita (which didn't taste strong at the time but as I write this my headache begs to differ), guacamole and a chicken fajita quesadilla entree. The marg was tasty! Chips and salsa were fresh. The guac was kind of tasteless-- I wouldn't order that again. And the chicken fajita quesadilla was delightful! The veggies were well cooked and so flavorful! Overall, Si Señor 2 is a locally owned spot worth trying! Be sure to checkout the specials board as you walk in.

We ate an early dinner here on Thursday 10/10/24, and to say it was fantastic would be a severe understatement! Massive portions, excellent tasting food, great prices and THE best service. Do yourself a favor, if you want the best in authentic Mexican food, give them a try, you won't be disappointed!

Queso is great. Street tacos are amazing and relatively inexpensive. Workers are always nice and helpful.

I'm…read moreso glad we discovered with place as it could easily compete with quality of bigger city restaurants. There were four of us. We started with the kimchi cucumbers and gyoza. Both were great but those cucumbers were so good we got a second order. We also tried a few cocktails from the lounge menu. We asked specifically to see that menu as the food menu has a few cocktails but not as extensive as on the lounge menu. All the cocktails our table tried were great -- tastefully made and well balanced. Finally for the main course, we all tried a ramen. I got the Negi Shoyu which is chicken broth based and it was so flavor packed and delicious. Everyone was pleased and cleared their plates.

Luckily I knew I couldn't go wrong so I closely reviewed the options and landed on the Maepo Tofu. My husband decided to go with the Kimchi ramen. We went with a tried and true woodear mushroom appetizer which never disappoints. The bonus of this appetizer is any leftovers just get added to the ramen I didn't finish for leftovers at home. Cheers yet again to Paper Crane for delivery on amazing food for a long overdue date night!

The $50 sirloin steak was served cold. Because our waitress, Grace H, failed to even ask how our food was the entire time until after we had eaten everything I couldn't even send it back. I spent the entire time trying to make eye contact with her but she was busy taking new tables. When she finally came to ask how our food was and was told, her response was I will let the kitchen know. Not "I will bring you another plate" or even discount or comp the entree. Not what you'd expect from Iowa city's fine dining flagship. The prices were not just expensive, but over the top expensive. $50 for an 8 ounce sirloin. $56 for 12 average oysters. To be honest it's below average in value to a nice restaurant in LA, NY or Chicago. They may thrive because the IC elite doesn't have many options for upscale dining. But for someone who has lived in those cities and eaten at Michelin star culinary venues this place is lacking in both food and service for the prices they charge. It was enough of a bad experience that I will never be back. There's Chez Grace, Joseph's and 126 which offer quality food, much better value and food service. Posting my food pics and the receipt to see what $200 gets you here.

Pro: upscale modern interior, friendly (for the most part) staff, attentive to our children's (5 & 3) food and attention span needs. There is a kids menu and ours enjoyed their food very much. One staff brought a Lego box in addition to the coloring pages and crayons. The squash soup was delicious - hands down the best thing we had. Neutral: the biscuits were good but my wife remarked that they tasted "warmed-up" as in not fresh. The Shishito peppers were underwhelming and my skeptical assumption is that they were recommended to us because the profit margin was particularly high on that dish. The rotating nature of the menu left it with a sense of lacked coordination. Cons: we ordered at 5:59pm (confirmed on the bill) - it took one hour and 40 minutes to get our final plate - the scallop large plate - which the first thing I noticed when it was sat on the table was an odor that tells me these scallops would not be fresh. 4 scallops for $49 is wild, but when they aren't fresh and they're overpowered by the sauce and accompanying beans, it's a real disappointment. Mind you, we waited 100 minutes for this unfortunate last dish. We asked our waiter at one point if he would please check on them, after a while he said they would be "out in a few minutes." Strangely, there was no recognition on his behalf that they were taking a long time, or that this was clearly an inconvenience. Nonsensical: there are two single restrooms tucked away in a rear hallway near the entrance to the back kitchen. The line queue was at a dozen people crammed into that small hallway.

Plus, Each time we have been there, the service has been fast and friendly. I really don't know what else to say. This place is just a solid, slightly more upscale bar than the rest of the bars in Iowa city. If you're looking for a nice place to have a quiet drink, this is it. This, in addition to the gorgeous 70s vibes from the restaurant. Seriously, every little piece of it has a story behind it, from the tiny pigs hanging in the beads separating two parts of the restaurant to the Gene Wilder-print paper accompanying the fries. I love it. I love the way it shows the thought and care that went into every single detail. Food: Open your menu. Find the meal with the maple-glazed carrots. Order them. Thank me. Again, no idea about where exactly they're located on the menu because I tried them at a Yelp event, but they are exquisite. The best-tasting carrots I've ever eaten. Like, I found myself wanting a plate of veggies. That should speak volumes. They also get their desserts daily from Bread Garden, and if you've ever stopped by (it's literally next door, so I would hope so), they're more like the Bread Eden. So in other words, you can expect a lot from their desserts. I had pie served on an artfully decorated plate with fresh cream on top, and I was two seconds away from licking my plate it was so good. Drinks: Their cocktails are AMAZING. I can already picture spring and summer, stopping by for a quick bite and a cocktail on their patio. This place is in an ideal location, and with excellent beverages and yummy apps, what's not to love? Decor: Did I mention it's awesome? Yeah. It's awesome. This isn't a huge restaurant, but it's worth noting that the space is divided, so it could easily accommodate a larger group with a more private dining vibe on the far side of the room. I can't wait to come back!
