I stopped in to get a cup of coffee which runs $1 or $2 in most shoppes in the area. In searching through my billfold I'm count through my money and only have $20s. Tucked in the middle is my lone $10. Mind you the waitress who was watching me count out the money only saw my $20. I gave her the $10. She gives me back $14.50 in change ... $9 in singles and a $5 bill & coins. WARNING: she's a scammer! She was basically charging me $5.50 for coffee out of a $20 in her mind, and hoping I wouldn't count out the singles that were part of the change and just stick it in my pocket. Once she saw me count out the change she tried to hide herself from my view behind the pastry case. If it were an innocent mistake whereby she gave me back $17.50 forgetting I'd given her a $10 then I'd have gladly given back the $10. OR if she'd given $12.50 forgetting a $5 then I'd ask, "excuse me I'm $5 less on my change. NOPE ... she's a CHEATER! (Skinny, dark black hair with glasses). So instead of cheating me as she intended, I got a free cup of coffee and $4.50 for my troubles. Yep I kept it and left. For whatever reason some of waitresses there think that if you're a "gringo" you deserve less. The soup orders I get are very different from the ones my wife gets (she's a native Spanish speaker) in terms of portions of meat. The owner needs to fix this. My friends and I went to New Rochelle to get some late lunch. The parking is a bit difficult as it's metered street parking. Inside the place is well kept and plenty of seating. The staff is attentive and friendly. We wanted a quick lunch and we got chicken (grilled and fried) with rice and beans. My fried chicken was not greasy at all and well seasoned. The tripe soup was fantastic and tender. The papusas were one of the most tasty I've eaten and not over salted or oily. The horchata was great and the cinnamon flavor came through strongly. So....I can only tell you about the pupusas. Yummmm and cheap and quick way to fill up on a budget. They make them to order, so you have to be ok with waiting about 15 min or so. They have lots of fillings. I go with the classic pork and cheese filling. There is also plaon cheese and some veggie filling too. This place is a hidden gem in New Rochelle! I love coming here for breakfast. All of their pupusas are made fresh to order and are so filling! They usually serve a spicy cabbage based salad on the side with a spicy tomato sauce which go together perfectly. I recently tried the huevos rancheros and it was so tasty. I always enjoy getting a cup of coffee and a fresh squeezed orange juice on the side of my breakfast. My children also enjoy the food here. Had dinner here a week or so ago and it was our first visit. I've never had Salvadoran cuisine before, but it was a pleasant surprise. I had the popusas and my husband had the BBQ chicken. Talk about bland! Ugh I'm so disappointed in the food l. The papusas were flavorless...like the slaw had more flavor than the papusa itself. And the sweet corn tamale wasn't bland too! It's new, it's clean, and for the most part, you can actually see what you're getting before you order it, thanks to the cafeteria-style kitchen. You help yourself to drinks from the big fridge, and everything gets tallied up at the end. All the staff are so welcoming, and helpful with getting your orders together. About the food - in a word: spectacular. Tamales of generous portions, pupusas that are the right size and have just the right thickness in a variety of fillings. The chicharonnes... holy moly, the chicharonnes are large, generous chunks with amply crunchiness and flavor. The only downside is the seating. Table seating is typically limited to two per table - if you're seating more, then you've got to sit adjacent to each other along the window counter. If they could accommodate more seatings per table, that would definitely help. But then again, it does seem like one of those order-and-dash places, with a lot of food ready cooked and ready to go. So that said, it's an efficient place with a great menu of really great food. read more

This place is good place to have Salvadoran food. I love their chícharones and yuca frita. How about their popusa are to die for. The only bad thing is that I live in the Bronx and this restaurant is in New Rochelle. This wast my first time I been here before and is worth the drive to New Rochelle. we wanted to sit in the front then the two ladies told us to sit better in the other side. we didn't want to but they insisted because they said more room. last time we sat in the other side they forgot about us. Came here and ordered a beef quesadilla to go. Food took about 10-15 minutes and the restaurant was almost empty. The cashier up front was nice enough. My order came up to $9 and I put it on my debit card, leaving a dollar tip. 2 days later, i checked my bank statement to realize the store added an additional $11 tip and took the liberty of charging it on my card.
