    Carnitas Tostadas
    Dan M.

I returned here after what might be my longest hiatus from attending a spot originally, but that has not been 100% confirmed. I had three new items this time. As noted on my prior review, two salsas and chips were served to start the meal. They were as I remembered, a slight kick with plenty of flavor. For starters, the beef empanadas and carnitas tostadas were ordered. There were three to each order. The empanadas were extremely crispy. The puff pastry seemed a little odd as it appeared to have some type of sweetness? I could not exactly put my finger on it, but it was different. The filing was the standout here. The tostadas were my favorite item tried. The corn tortilla held up nicely with the carnitas and cheese. The meat was particularly good, and it did not hurt to add the salsa that was present. For an entrée, the chicken enchiladas were ordered. We had it with mole sauce, which was alright. Again, the filing was appetizing and there was plenty of it. I was just not a huge fan of the mole sauce.

Hands down. The best taco you'll ever have. Don't be fool by the Peruvian sign. I can promise you that you'll never have a better one in your life or that this wouldn't be in your top 5 Love when you come in and the guac is made fresh for each table too. We were the only ones in and we can here them making it right away Prices were great and they were very nice Inside the restaurant was a traditional cantina style set up and just an overall great experience

Hidden gem in North Brunswick. Close to the post office. Side street parking. It was completely empty when we came in which was odd but it didn't shake us and so glad we stuck it out. Ideally 4.5 stars but I'll round up. They bring out house made chips and two different salsas. Both salsas are more like sauce, no texture or chunks. Delicious though. My husband raved about the red one because of how unique it was. I preferred the green surprisingly but both were great. Chips are house made from flour tortillas. My husband and I both had the chicken fajitas. So delicious. Very clearly fresh made flour tortillas (triangle shaped which was actually great). Super flavorful beans. We tried to order the churro dessert but they were out of it. We ordered the flan instead. As an apology, the owner brought us out ice cream which was super nice of him. The flan was really delicious with a slightly burnt sugar taste (in a good way, trust me). I'm not big on flan but I really liked this. Our waitress was okay, she had to keep checking in the back every time we asked for something (my husband asked for no beans, she had to go ask, she had to ask about the churro dessert, etc) but she was very polite and helpful. I'd rather she check versus bringing out the wrong thing. This is a small place but it's clean, fun decor and super good food.

Monday's are $1 empanadas until 6pm! That got us in the door. Their empanadas all have cheese and your choice of meat. They were good, nothing amazing but a great deal for a dollar. We got a bunch of burritos and everyone enjoyed theirs. Large, packed with rice, beans, meat and covered in cheese. The enchiladas had great, flavorful sauces but were stuffed with dark meat and inedible pieces of chicken fat, skin and cartilage. Based on the prior reviews and proximity to my home we were really hoping to love it here but the enchiladas were a huge turn off. Stick to anything else!

Hey hey Adventurers! I only got to order take out from this location but the food was delicious and authentic! This is coming from dating someone who was Peruvian for over a decade so I can definitely tell a difference. We ordered the mixed seafood ceviche---phenomenal! Fresh and tasty, it is the creamy kind and not the clear juice kind. The chicken empanadas weren't too bad, I prefer the cuban beef kind style more. We also ordered the lomo saltado (ridiculously good) but they needed more rice and green spaghetti with beef that's fried. Overall I will definitely order from here again!

Had an opportunity to come in and sit down for lunch before I went back home. I didn't think the food could get any better but the tortillas really shine when you can get it fresh. Still recommend for take out but come in if you can't! Small inside but quick and delicious!

This Mexican spot definitely hits the spot!! Came for lunch with one of my co-workers after being highly recommended and it did not disappoint! All the tables were nicely distanced since we are still dealing with the pandemic and masks were worn by the staff which made us feel safe. I ended up ordering the Chicken Quesadilla and she ended up getting the Chicken Tacos. Wow is all I have to say! You could tell the chicken was freshly grilled and packed with flavor. Both came with a long hot pepper on the side which definitely added a nice kick to the meal since I did mention to the waiter that we loved spicy! That is great customer service right there :) This also lead to him bringing up us a 3rd dipping sauce to the complimentary nachos which had us sipping on water but oh so good! Prices are good and portions are large enough for leftovers the next day. What else can you ask for? You definitely can't go wrong with ordering from this spot and will definitely be a repeat customer! This place is truly a gem!!

I ate here before & it was good and few times got takeouts. This time we ordered: - Burrito - Its Delicious ....you Must try this! its huge and i asked them to mix it with spicy pork & Mexican sausage. - Pechuga de Pollo o Bistec - delicious marinated chicken - For appetizers we ordered Tacos (beef tongue) which was tasteless & Empanadas had very little filling (usually they are stuffed & delicious) Overall the food is very good and customer service is personal for eg. the lady took out Tacos from the bill since i was disappointed and followed up few times to make sure remaining food was adequate....that showed good customer service. The place is slow-paced & less vibrant and if that doesn't bothers you... then you must come to try out their food.

I was that jerk who called in an order 20 minutes before closing during a snow storm. So sorry Lucy's, but mad props for not closing early. My husband and I were craving Mexican all day, so we were determined to make it happen. We're so glad we did because the food was awesome. We shared 2 orders of enchiladas - one with verde sauce and one with mole sauce. We ordered the mole one with pork, but they both came with chicken. The mole sauce was rich and complex with a perfect cocoa aftertaste. I've found that a lot of authentic Mexican restaurants do not make true mole sauce. They'll claim it's mole, but really it's just a thin red sauce. The mole at Lucy's was the real deal. Additionally, we ordered chicken flautas, beef tacos, empanadas, and guac and chips. Yes, I know that's a lot of food for 2 human beings, but we're usually pretty unreasonable when we order take out. Our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, and we have leftovers for days - not a necessarily a bad thing. The beef in the tacos was dry, but we made them delicious by adding some fresh guac. Everything else was great. The flautas and empanadas were both crispy and full of flavor. We really wanted to try their famous soupes, but they not surprisingly ran out. We're looking forward to returning and trying them along with other things on their menu.

Great place for Mexican food. Great service and the food was amazing. I tried the Chicken empanada, Mexican sausage soft tacos and the Caesar salad. The empanada was moist on the inside with great seasoning and crunchy on the outside by not too oily. Will definitely have the next time I'm there. The soft tacos Mexican sausage filling was good. Not dry and well flavoured. The Caesar salad made for a nice healthy accompaniment to the spicy food. All in all a terrific dining experience and the service was impeccable. I was trying the place out to bring my family and it definitely passed the trial. Will be bringing the family back soon.

Complimentary chips with two dipping sauces.

I was running errands on a day off from work, and was a bit late on my original choice for lunch, so I diverted to Lucy's Restaurant. Served first were complimentary crunchy chips with a red and tomatillo sauce. I prefered the tomatillo sauce as it had more heat and spice. As a starter I selected two tacos, an Al Pastor and a beef tongue (lengua) taco. Al Pastor tacos were very good with a distinct pineapple flavor from plenty of juicy chunks. The pork pieces were seasoned well and gave a savory contrast. It was not the best version of Al Pastor I've eaten.....but still very good. Lucy's version of beef tongue (BTW a severely underrated cut of beef) was awesomely moist, fatty, and correspondingly full of great flavor. The entire taco was coated with beefy flavor from the rendered fat. I would most definitely get this taco again! For my main dish I had the Mole chicken with rice & beans, and let me say that the Mole sauce was probably the best I've eaten! The Mole was fantastically full-bodied, bombarding me with all sorts of flavors: salty, sweet, sour, smokey, and bitter. The rice & beans were the perfect vessel for the ethereal Mole too. I loved that the two pieces of chicken were a drumstick and thigh, both being the more flavorful cuts of chicken. Paired with the Mole, they complimented each other perfectly. Service was so friendly as the owner (well obviously Lucy) took my order and was kind in answering my numerous questions on the Mole sauce. If you want a Mexican food which feels like a genuine homemade meal, Lucy's is a great choice!

Out of all of them, this location has honestly been the one we've enjoyed the most and the one we keep coming back to. That said, over the past year or two, I do feel the food quality has declined a bit. I recently ordered the lomo saltado (the lower-priced option), and while the meat was flavorful and savory, there was a little too much broth, which made the fries and rice soggy. My husband ordered the tacu tacu with steak, but it felt like there were barely any beans in it. For the kids, we ordered salchipapa. They enjoyed it, but I was expecting the hot dogs to have a little more crisp instead of being soft. What keeps us coming back is the experience here. The restaurant is always clean, organized, and has a really nice ambiance. The staff is attentive, service is quick, and we rarely have to wait or follow up on anything. Their ají verde is still really good too. Overall, I'd say 3.5 stars for the food, but 4 stars for service, ambiance, and overall experience. I really hope the food quality improves because this location has been one of our favorites.
