Interesting visit here. Server was fast and friendly, but did not pay attention to ordering details, resulting in me getting the wrong order twice. Chips and salsa were good. I ordered Tacos Al Carbon (beef) with charro beans, and was brought out Enchiladas Al carbon with refried beans. I advised her it was wrong and what I had ordered, and she looked confused for a few seconds, then said "oh yeah, you wanted tacos". I replied "Yes, beef Al carbon with charro beans. I wanted to note that the last 2 delivery orders over past 2 weeks have been disappointing. One order where I ordered the quedo with guacamole vía Door Dash, the queso had NO guacamole just an 8 ounce cup of cheese sauce for $7!! Then last Sunday I tried again even put a note on order to not forget to add guacamole to the queso; this time it had very greasy taco meat and I threw most of it out, another waste of $7!! Been wanting to try this place for a while. Went in on a weekday around noon. Staff was friendly and it was pretty clean- except for the bathroom door edges that were brownish black from handling. Chips were good. Salsa had great flavor but was very watery and didn't want to stay on chips. I get trying to stretch a dollar but this was really thin. I got the flautas con polio. The description did not mention rice and beans but the picture of the dish on menu did- so I asked and they were served on my plate. They were nice and crispy but chicken had no seasoning and was bland- needed salt at a minimum And maybe some cumin or other spice. My husband got the #30 steak con rajas. Was basically beef fajita with onions, peppers and bacon- served with tortillas, guacamole, etc. it was REALLY tasty. Meat with great seasoning and spice, great homemade tasting flour tortillas. The food is OK. My first visit: no one spoke in the intercom to take my order. I sped off...l This last order, I'd made online. I pulled into the drive thru and stopped at the speaker. Nothing. I drove up to the window, and the cashier saw me but continued to mop for 5 minutes. He apologized as he came to the window. There's really no excuse for his lazy behaviour. Tres Magueyes on Adams is just as bad. These are the bottom two taquerias for the Temple area. but THE BEST experience I've had is at TRES MAGUEYES on 3rd street. This is a Tex-Mex joint. Just what I wanted. Rudimentary bar and tap beer. Fast friendly service and it really was good. Their chips/salsa were good. Pureed style salsa-not chunky-but fresh and tasty. The chips were fresh & crisp. I ate an atypical meal. Shrimp fajitas. They were great-lots of shrimp and well-carmelized onions and peppers. I seriously doubt the chef ( if that name can be given to someone that prepares such awful) has any love left for the preparation of his food. So this place was delicious, to start off I feel like you can typically judge a restaurant by its salsa when they bring out the chips and salsa. Well that salsa in my opinion was spot on, it had the right amount of flavor and kick to keep you wanting more. My fiancé ordered and enchilada plater which looked delicious and I order two Al pastor tacos and an asada burrito. I have had my fair share of Al pastor and I'd have to say I'll be making the trip back here to enjoy there's. The asada burrito was cooked to perfection, couldn't ask for a better asada burrito. Hot Fast Somewhat flavorful NOT Authentic Although the experience was "ok", I've had more authentic Mexican food in the Midwest. I guess I expected more. I had the 3 enchiladas plate, 1 beef, 1 chicken, 1 cheese. The beef was ground and Americanized, the cheese was some odd cheddar mix, and the chicken was flavorful but not what I think of as Mexican flavors necessarily. I also had a chili relleno and when asked about fajita meat inside I decided on yes. The meat was good but it didn't really taste like a relleno. A tomato sauce (not even salsa) on top with some cheese on top as well. No cheese in the middle. The watered down tomato juice covered the whole thing and was nearly spilling off the plate. Obviously it watered down the dish and sucked most of the flavor out. You couldn't taste or even really tell that it had the egg batter on it, it was so wet. read more

Absolutely horrible and do not recommend. How are you going to be a Mexican restaurant? They can't get tamales or huevos rancheros right. Watered down Horchata, and waterwsdown salsa. And tamales that taste like they were soaked in water before thrown in the microwave, but somehow they were also dry. I've never had a steamed flavor tamale, until today. the green sauce had no flavor just straight spice, which normally isn't a problem when the green sauce has flavor. i would never come back here ever. I'm never in Temple but when I am I came here one time since it was so close to where I needed to be. Tacos were seriously super cheap and delicious. Homemade tortillas which always makes my heart sing. Looks like a nice bar and there are signs everywhere letting you know that they do I.D. Chips n salsa served once ya sit down and they got huge cups for their fountain sodas and waters. Looking at the bar in the back seems like it could be a good time if you come here for drinking times. Plenty of seats and decent booths. As good as I have had anywhere in CTX ..if not including a few choice taco trucks... Only had the mini tacos (street tacos) however they were authentic and delicious. Carbon, Beef Fajita and Camarones. Beef was fresh and flavorful- not salty or at all "chewy/gristly". Not fatty either. And priced right at $1.50 each as well! The comp chips were also fresh and hot, salsas- all 3 of them - delicious as well. Esp the Salsa Verde and Ranchero (served hot) Service very good and the Manager Elias also came out to check on me. I'm from Austin and was up in Temple on business. Temple isn't a big town so I was driving around just to look around. I came across a plant store/nursery down the street from El Dorado. I loved the plant selection and bought a few. The proprietor was Mexican and I asked him if there was a place in town he recommended for lunch. He turned to a non-descript orange & yellow building a block away and said, "Alli," as he pointed. Seemed good enough for me so my wife and I headed over. I asked the waiter what he recommended and he suggested the El Dorado Fajita Plate and the Carne Asada (the special of the day). My wife is from Argentina and isn't a big fan of Mexican food, but even she loved it. Both dishes were fabulous. The Fajita plate came with the typical sizzling hot cast iron plate but also with beef, chicken, and shrimp. I made three types of fajitas and they were great. The El Dorado Fajita plate was $8.99 and the Carne Asada was $6.99 (normally $7.99 if not the special of the day- it was Tuesday). The fajitas came with a separate plate of lettuce, cheese, beans, quacamole, and pico de gallo. The Carne Asada came with a grilled flank steak, grilled green onions, nopales (cooked cactus), avocado, and rice. Did I mention it was great? Beyond this, there was a very nice portion of food. If we weren't too hungry my wife and I could have split the fajitas. As it turned out we packed up a large and small carry out box to put in our hotel restaurant. When we were leaving, the waiter offered to fill us up with a new to go cup for our lemonade. That's how you get a good Yelp review! I don't believe El Dorado has a website, but ... this place is legit. I think there was as at least as much Spanish spoken amongst the clientele as English (often also a good sign if looking for good, hidden Mexican food jaunts). If you're driving through Temple (or live there) give these guys a shot. It's about 1 mile east of I-35 off of the Central Ave exit. And... if you need some plants, check out the business that's 1 block east (don't remember the name). read more

Decided to give this place another chance after a bad home delivery service. Original owner is back and the food is back to it's awesomeness!!! We had a wonderful server. Her kindness really made our experience much better. Place is very clean and orderly. Owner also very nice. He came from the back to talk with us making sure we had everything we needed. But after several months of still failing to find a mexican restaurant closer to home that is as good as El Dorado, I decided to put my two cents into the hat. It was a fantastic meal. We couldn't stop the audible "mmmmmmmm"s that sprang from our mouths. Or that silent sigh as your eyes roll back in your head and a piece of meat just falls apart when it hits your tongue. The only reason I docked them one star is because a homeless man came in while we were dining and they charged him upfront for his meal even though the rest of us diners were being charged on the back end. It especially irked me because I was going to pay for his meal when we left so he'd have a nice surprise when he was ready to leave. I understand their reasons for charging him up front. Wow, I wish I could leave ZERO stars. We are from out of town (we drive through Temple often) and stopped for lunch. We walked in we're told to "just sit wherever". We asked for two high chairs and they didn't even bring us one. We sat for almost 20 minutes and not one server acknowledged us. We didn't get to place a drink order, we weren't even brought chips and salsa. The place was full of day workers which isn't a problem but they clearly took priority. Even the group of 6 who walked in 10 minutes after us were served their drinks and chips while we sat without acknowledgement. Horrific experience and will never stop here again. read more

I opted for one of the weekly specials and today is Wednesday, so it was mixed fajitas with strips of beef, chicken and even shrimp (tail on). Corn or flour tortillas (or mixed if you're indecisive like me). Your meats come out on a sizzling skillet and is accompanied by a plate of guacamole, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro, Spanish rice and a small bowl of pinto beans with additives (different stuff). I asked for sour cream and forgot about cheese. Overall, not bad, just a bit too light on the seasoning for me. If you're looking for TexMex without burning a whole through your colon, give this place a try. I read all of the reviews and decided we should try this place. I love out of the way restaurants and this looked very promising based on the reviews. Surprise! It was not at all like the reviewers posted. Either they have not been to a good tex mex restaurant or I hit them on a bad day. For starters, the waitresses were not very friendly. Pretty much, I think they could care less if we were there or not. We did get waited on but we should have because there were only a couple of other tables in the restaurant that were occupied. The salsa was good but the warm sauce was bland -- not hot at all. I think they used that same sauce to put on our food -- if there was sauce there. I couldn't tell because it was covered (and I mean covered) in Monterrey Jack cheese. If that is your favorite cheese, then this is the restaurant for you! I got the enchiladas and my partner got the tamales. In my opinion, these are two Mexican classics that are hard to mess up. They were bland and each flavor ran into the next. I would have preferred some sort of sauce other than melted cheese but that is the way they came.
