If you're craving authentic Mexican flavors at great prices, this no-frills, family-run restaurant is the place to go. The owner was very friendly and shared that she took over about six months ago but kept the same menu, staff, and cozy atmosphere. She also mentioned they recently added a breakfast burrito that's become a hit--perfect for a quick brunch while running errands. The dessert options looked amazing, though we didn't try them this time. What we ordered: * I had the caldo de res soup, served with five small tortillas, dried chilies, fresh cilantro, and onions. Really affordable little Mexican joint. I've been told it's one of the most authentic places in town. Portion sizes are very generous. We got burritos ahogado, which are served on sizzling skillets. Don't expect the fanciest decor, and service is all counter, but if you're looking for a lot of good food at rock bottom prices this is it. They also have a full bakery with loads of sweet treats. I am super disappointed with the dinner that I ordered from El super burrito. It took over an hour and a half to get my food when I called the restaurant expressing my concerns they blamed it on the Uber driver. The food was cold. The shrimp are tiny and rubbery. I never complain but this was a joke. I paid $20 for this meal. When I asked to speak to the manager she said I cannot because he cannot speak English. This will be the very last time that I ever ever patronize this restaurant. Please do not waste your money go to los compadres on 33rd and Cedar Rapids much better food and service. When you roll up to a restaurant 20 minutes before closing, it's not unusual to be told the kitchen's already closed. Not at Super Burrito, though! The staff were super helpful and very kind. If I could give this place zero stars I would . This is the second time I've eaten here only because the first time we ordered super burritos and they were dry, flavorless and 75% rice . We figured "they must be known for tacos" since their burritos are garbage. The second time we ordered 8 tacos, steak, chicken, shrimp, al pastor and chorizo. The chicken and steak had absolutely no seasoning, the al pastor and chorizo were ok, and the shrimp...oh...dear god, WHAT ARE YOU SERVING TO PEOPLE?!!! The shrimp taco is 3 tiny, overcooked shrimp on a bed of rice as a pathetic attempt to conceal that there are almost no shrimp in this overpriced taco . But the real crime is the sauce !! The smear what tastes like Mayo/tartar sauce on the tortilla . On top of that they dump pico de Gallo on every taco instead of traditional onion, cilantro and a lime on the side. YOU ARE NOT AUTHENTIC !!!! You guys a disgrace to your heritage . You are giving Mexican food a bad name and you know it . I have never thrown out food before in my life . This has been a favorite eating establishment in my family for years. The food is always fast, fresh, and hot. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is very clean. Having lived in Southern California for several years, I can attest to the authenticity of the Mexican cuisine. My picky 4 year old daughter even approves. She won't eat typical toddler food, but she lights up when she finds out we're eating here. She devours the beef tacos, rice, beans, and chips/salsa (all of which she won't eat from anywhere else). After time after time of mediocre Mexican food in Iowa, I was thrilled to find a genuinely good local spot. I had a ahogado chorizo burrito, which came out literally sizzling as was delicious. Spicy, meaty, with a great heat:flavor ratio. They offer some rarer options, like lengua, that are absolutely delightful. Whenever I'm getting food from El Super, I make sure to allows get some Lupita treats like churros, flan and wedding cake. She bakes fresh everyday and always have a wide variety to pick and choose from the case. Everything is inexpensive and worth a try for bakery items south of the boarder. read more

My latest favorite menu item are the Tortas (sandwich) see photo. You order it with your choice of meat, (I got lengua, that means steak, right?) and topped with shredded lettuce, peppers and guacamole on a lightly grilled homemade bun. It is outstanding! Their guacamole is the best I've had anywhere, not much heat but always very fresh. ESB is also home to Lupita's bakery. My fiancé and I recently moved to Cedar Rapids and love finding great Mexican food! We spent a lot of time in the Quad Cities and they had really good food there but now that's too far of a drive. Someone mentioned if I like quad cities Mexican food, to try Super Burrito. So we got the enchilada platter with beef, chicken and steak and then we also got the super burrito platter. OMG! Great choice! The burrito was amazing and the red hot sauce that came with it was jaw dropping! Perfect amount of heat to it! We also ordered one chorizo taco and that was some of the best chorizo I have had! What a great recommendation! 9/10! Like most authentic ethnic cuisines, its not the Americanized bastardization of Mexican food we've all come to expect in this country. And that can be good or bad, depending on what you're looking for. Don't come here hoping for the food you'd find at Chipotle, Qdoba, or Carlos O'Kellys. The service is pretty much nonexistent. I don't expect too much from a place where you order at the counter off a menu written on a white board, but a smile and pleasant demeanor would be nice. They bring your food to your table when it's ready, set it down, and walk away. The 'dining room' could use a little attention too. The set up is odd and it's not as clean as it could be. El Super Burrito is Ok, just that, just Ok. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there, I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone. This is my favorite little mexican restaurant in Cedar Rapids. As some one else said, the tacos are exceptional. Recently the dining room expanded making it a little more comfortable for eating in. And now they serve beer too. You can order a three taco dinner platter for about six bucks and the choices for tacos are great. I usually order one beef, one chorizo, and one pork. This is the best Mexican restaurant there is in Cedar Rapids. Burrito Ahogado is the best way to go. Fill it with the alambre or the man anything is good in there. They make some damn fine food here. The lengua is about the only place to get any decent lengua in Iowa. The churros are great. the Tres Leches is good. Can't beat the price either.
