    Mini Burrito Ahogado
    Jeff T.

Really affordable little Mexican joint. I've been told it's one of the most authentic places in town. Portion sizes are very generous. We got burritos ahogado, which are served on sizzling skillets. Don't expect the fanciest decor, and service is all counter, but if you're looking for a lot of good food at rock bottom prices this is it. They also have a full bakery with loads of sweet treats. Solid choice!

    Shrimp fajitas

I am super disappointed with the dinner that I ordered from El super burrito. It took over an hour and a half to get my food when I called the restaurant expressing my concerns they blamed it on the Uber driver. The food was cold. The shrimp are tiny and rubbery. I never complain but this was a joke. I paid $20 for this meal. When I asked to speak to the manager she said I cannot because he cannot speak English. This will be the very last time that I ever ever patronize this restaurant. Please do not waste your money go to los compadres on 33rd and Cedar Rapids much better food and service. Please do not waste your money and be disappointed like I was.

    Bombero burrito

I stopped in last night and not only are the prices reasonable but the food and service are excellent. I will definitely be back!

Chicken fajitas were just o.k. Carne Asada was almost inedible , steak was chewy and fatty.

Best Mexican in town. Reminds me of the street food I'd get in Puerto Vallarta. I recommend the chorizo.

Don't overthink it. Keep in my mind the name and order the burrito. The ahogado or bombero variety in particular.

My Mom's Bakery opens EARLY every Tuesday through Saturday: they start baking their goods in the wee hours of the morning, and by 6 AM, their front doors are open and their kolaches and other baked goods are ready to be enjoyed. Their hours technically go until 11 AM, but they actually close for the day when they sell out, which is almost always earlier than that because they are so popular. So, it's important to get here as close to 6 as you can if you want the best selection. As I mentioned earlier, their kolaches are some of the best I've ever had. This quintessential Czech pastry, which comes in many different fruit (or possibly cheese or poppy-seed) varieties, is a very popular treat in this part of Iowa. However, even though it's easy to find kolaches around Cedar Rapids, it's difficult to find really good, traditional ones. The kolaches here remind me of the types I used to enjoy when I visited Cedar Rapids as a child, with a super light, airy dough and generous helpings of fruit in the middle. Their other pastries, including pecan cinnamon rolls and lemon bars, are fantastic as well. My Mom's Bakery also has a brand new, state of the art espresso machine, and they offer a full range of espresso drinks. I really enjoyed their plain espresso, but you can get drinks with milk as well. The shop itself is small, with just some counter seating (as well as a couple tables out front), so it's probably best to plan to take your baked goods to go. They do have a large, clean bathroom. The staff here is super nice, and we really enjoyed chatting with them about their story and operation. They obviously put their whole heart into this little shop, and it shows. We can't wait to come back the next time we are in Cedar Rapids.

I get here at about 5:55 on a Friday or Saturday to get my fix. I've heard they can run out before their closing time, and I don't want to take that chance! Always cinnamon rolls...but this morning, a lemon bar too. The lemon bar is fragrant and the crust is buttery perfection. After a few bites from my new favorite, I moved on to the pecan roll. Goodness gracious they are delicious. Perfectly baked bread and the caramelization and nuts are perfectly toasted. I hope to see you at 5:55 am at My Mom's Bakery!

I was happy to find the small shop in the early afternoon on a warm Saturday. The sweet, understated smell that enveloped me when I walked in confirmed I was at the right place. As I arrived later in the day and was only looking for a sweet treat (or two), I was fine with the limited selection of cupcakes and cookies in the up front case. There may have been more available to me if I asked. The person that came out from the back was very kind and offered a free sample of the bread pudding they had that day: cinnamon roll. The small bites of the sample (warm, gooey, cinnamon with frosting) convinced me to get a full size. Wright Touch also had a cupcake flavors of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, red velvet, and mint chocolate in the case and I choose the mint chocolate. All the cupcakes have a filling in the middle. Both the bread pudding and cupcake were great. The cake and frosting were dense and not too sweet. The bread pudding was everything you would hope for from a cinnamon roll and then some: soft, sweet, and chewy. Tasted homemade and I have no notes. I would highly recommend checking out Wright Touch for a sweet treat or bread pudding. I can't wait to go back!

Whatever Sprinkles Your Donuts!…read more For nutritional and blood sugar reasons, I largely stay out of donut shops. There are exceptions like Tim Horton's in Canada and most recently Donutland. This is the real deal and with lots of delicious sugar bombs to choose from, courtesy of an engaged staff. And contrary to the urban legend, no donut-loving police officers were present during my visits. Prices have gone up over the years, with my chocolate old fashioned the first morning, and what I call a "Hawkeye Sprinkled" donut the second morning running at $1.84 each. The first morning's donut was consumed on the way to Iowa City, while the 2nd one was saved for the airplane flying out of Cedar Rapids. I found their coffee to be pretty good too. The filling tasted like a fresh blueberry pie: bright, jammy, and perfectly balanced against tender, slightly pillowy dough. The glaze was light enough to let the fruit shine.
