We're passing through Marion, IA for a day (to see a concert in Cedar Rapids) and found a great coffee shop, but missed out on its pastries. A quick Yelp search sent us to Kettel House. What a great find. Had apple and cherry turnovers and a cinnamon roll. All fresh and tasty! If you like quality, artisan baked goods (nothing against the glazed donut/cream filled donut crowd) this is the place to go in Marion. The folks behind the counter were super friendly and made us feel good about stopping by. Finding it threw me for a second, though. They are in a house in what looks like a normal housing neighborhood. The sign is under the eaves and it's set back front the sidewalk under a nice shade tree. If you don't see it at first, look again. You'll be glad you did. read more

The Kettel House Bakery and Cafe is just a quaint as the name would have you believe. It's in an old house, so it has a nice homey feel to it. The seating does feel like you are a little out in the open, in that you have to walk through folks to get to the counter, but still pretty comfortable. My wife and I had a cup of coffee and some baked goods. Specifically, we had a few pieces of their coffee cake, and boy were they good! The coffee was so-so, nothing special, just a decent cup of joe. I would not necessarily go here to spend too much time or consider it a coffee shop / cafe where you would want to do work, but it's a good place to get together with friends and family for some breakfast or lunch for sure. I also heard through the grape vine that if you like pot pies, this is the place to be for lunch :) The staff were also exceptionally nice and polite, which always makes a place feel even warmer. Oh, and I will also note that they sell a lot of baked goods that you can take home with you if you find one you like! Will admit that I have never visited this brick and mortar bakery, but found them at the farmers market in downtown Marion. I picked up an orange roll and it was fantastic. The kolache was great too according to my hubby. If I am ever in this area again, will have to check out this place to try other things. read more

This place is great. As soon as I walked in it smelled like cinnamon buns and I was greeted by very nice and attentive staff. They had several areas with homemade crafts and I really had wished I brought more money so I could get some. I live right down the block so this place is easy to get to and they have more than just coffee and buns. Their kolaches were amazing and they have coffee and other sweet things. (May 6, 2017) Very friendly service and quaint old house atmosphere. We ordered sandwiches and breakfast items, and all were tasty. I had the chicken salad, which surprised me with an orange flavor. We also all shared a good cinnamon roll. Prices were reasonable for a cafe and bakery. On street parking was adequate. Our only complaint was the eating area, which didn't quite give the right fit between tables and merchandise displays. Overall we'd go there again. read more

We love anything made with their cinnamon roll dough! They make incredible braids, cinnamon or fruit. We've tried their cookies and they're pretty good too, they just seem pricier for what you get. The staff is always friendly. I wish they were open on Sundays. They started serving lunch as recently, but we have yet to get there to try their paninis or soups. read more

This used to be my favorite coffee shop until today. Worst customer service ever, I order a caffe latte and the young lady didn't even know how to make it. At least she was honest and told me she wasn't good at it, but if you sell coffee at least you should make sure your employees know how to make them!!! I had to tell her my order 3 times. Ate lunch at this quaint cafe today. It had close street parking. It is a small quiets place to meet a friend and visit near the downtown Marion Library. The baked goods looked yummy. I had the pecan roll which is very generous and sure could be shared if you want to. Lunch was tomato basil soup and a chicken havardi sandwich both were very good. The menu changes daily.
