This is the real deal and with lots of delicious sugar bombs to choose from, courtesy of an engaged staff. And contrary to the urban legend, no donut-loving police officers were present during my visits. Prices have gone up over the years, with my chocolate old fashioned the first morning, and what I call a "Hawkeye Sprinkled" donut the second morning running at $1.84 each. The first morning's donut was consumed on the way to Iowa City, while the 2nd one was saved for the airplane flying out of Cedar Rapids. I found their coffee to be pretty good too. Ordered 6 dozen donuts for work. Three of the 6 dozen were what i ordered. When it took it back in & asked about the other 3 that were incorrect, i was told that when you order a dozen "ASSORTED" donuts you get what they pick. OKAY i agree with that, but when i ordered 2 dozen "ASSORTED" donuts, i wanted just that... ASSORTED! Instead i got 2 dozen of all the same - assuming what was left over from the day before. It was early and they had no cherry donuts, really the only reason I go to donutland... the angel that came from the back with donuts let us know that they had cherry donuts but we're still cooling in the back. I got 3 of the warm cherry donuts. We gobbled up 2 of them in the parking lot like starving dogs. It was a moment in my wife and is life we will never forget. Someone brought in donuts to work and I had a chocolate covered cake donut. Delicious, not greasy and a pretty good size/texture as well. I'm not sure about the location as I didn't visit personally, but they have the cutest little box to transport their donuts - and the person who bought them said that the staff was friendly as well. I can't believe I haven't done a review for this place yet. Now that I've had Donutland, I can't eat any other donuts. It's always packed here, definitely the place to be in the mornings. They don't do the crazy overloaded style (like Hurts) or fluffy pastry style (like Dunkin), but they've nailed cake style donuts. My favorite is the blueberry or the chocolate peanut and they have the best donut holes. Donutland is the perfect place to grab a Friday treat for your coworkers - just grab their big 15 box! This donut heaven was a popular stop on a Saturday morning! For good reason. The line was out the door with people picking up these fried treats by the dozen when we arrived. We opted for a dozen between the two of us because... they're donuts. So why not? I don't regret it because they're donuts are kiiiinda on the smaller end. I literally ate three with no problem on the way home. The cake donuts are how you'd imagine them to be. Sweet, cakey, and dense. But in all the best ways! The yeast raised dough guys were smaller than you'd usually get from other donut shops, but that's ok because that means I get to try more flavors without feeling sick! They were also not as light and fluffy as others. Didn't stop me from eating them though! We picked up cherry and blueberry cake donuts because of reviews and a recommendation from a friend. The cherry was yummy, but the blueberry was my favorite between the two. The cherry was like eating maraschino cherries from the jar! We also grabbed an apple, a maple, and a pumpkin almond with your more traditional glazed, and sugar yeast risen friends. So far all that I've had been perfectly sweet, and tasty. It's been a very long time since I've eaten Donutland donuts--mainly because I haven't lived in the area for years. My husband indulged me and my need to visit so we stopped here at about Noon on a Saturday. I sure miss the Donutland on the westside, but going out of our way to step inside this blast from the past didn't disappoint. Yes, it looks like you stepped into 1978. We were quickly and happily greeted by a couple of people working. Staffing must have improved since some of the previous reviews were posted. Most of the staff we encountered were easily in their 20s or younger. The friendly young woman behind the counter answered our donut-related questions and kindly let me know that the cherry donuts sold out vey early that morning (which she said usually never happens). I settled for the blueberry (2nd fav.) and the orange, which I'd never tried before. Both were good--blueberry was exactly as I remembered and the orange tasted a lot like those gummy candy orange slices or orange Crush soda. Hubs chose an apple fritter and a rosebud. Those were about $1.50 each and very, very large. Being that it was lunchtime, hubs decided to go ahead and order a sub sandwich. The sweet girl taking our order wasn't familiar with the sandwich he wanted (which was listed on their menu above the counter) and one of her co-workers also didn't know how to make the cold deli sub. Hmm. They advertise lunch specials all over the place in the restaurant so how is it that two of the 5-6 people working don't know how to prepare lunch menu items? Hubs settled for a hot breakfast croissant which one of the employees did know how to make. Certainly someone working that afternoon knew how to prepare sandwiches and soups? In their defense they were willing to find someone who did know how to make the sandwich, but hubs didn't want to be a bother..-1 star for lack of knowledge. Tasty, classic donuts. Fair prices. This was THE place for donuts in Cedar Rapids, hands down. Unlike their biggest competitor, Dunkin Donuts, this place still made donuts like the past days, meaning the chocolate donuts actually tasted like chocolate. I've gone twice recently and their difference between them & their compitition seems to have narrowed. Donuts have gotten fairly expensive and I don't like spending that much unless a product impresses me to go back for more. Some of the local gas station donuts are now better than the ones Donutland offers. Given the fact that Donutland's main offering is Donuts, I expect more. Their Jamaican Me Crazy coffee tasted very weak. I had store bought varieties, so I know what it should tast like. Also, they offer plenty of over-priced milk but NOT whole milk, which is dissappointing. If I wanted low fat, I would not eat donuts... Luckily, there are plenty of people who will continue to buy Donutland's donuts. I would still go here before I ever considered Dunkin. Cedar Rapids is fortunate to have this locally ran shop & I am sure that they are doing their best in today's market, where shortages are the "new norm". read more
