My roommate in college got me started on these cupcakes and they are just great. This was my first time stopping there myself. I went past the building on the road and had to turn around because the sign is really small and unless you really know where your going you'll miss it. I grabbed a 6 pack of cupcakes and paid $14. I live for peanut butter in a cupcake so I got the monster cupcake and it just does not live up to its name. The peanut butter frosting is very dry, with oatmeal pieces and reeses pieces on top. The actual cake part was strange. It tasted more like cornbread then cake, but sweet. Still have 5 more, but I hope they get better. Update tried the brownie batter cupcake and the frosting is perfect with brownie bits and tastes perfect, but the cupcake is lacking something. read more

They've recently started incorporating the very popular White Claw Hard Seltzers into their recipe, so of course we had to stop in for this very reason. It (raspberry White Claw) was good. We also tried flavors like banana cream pie and a lemon-shortbread (that lemon shortbread is probably in my Top 10 now), and staples like Butterfinger and Red Velvet. I was so excited to stop in That One Cupcake Place but they only had a few different cupcakes available. We inquired if there were more in back but were told no. I absolutely love the almond cupcakes and the vanilla cupcakes! The only option for vanilla was gluten free which were $4 per cupcake. We bought a six pack for $14 and had to purchase the gluten free cupcakes separate. The shop is beautiful and inviting. The cupcakes are absolutely delicious! I learned of That One Cupcake Place from fellow Yelper Keyla. Man she hit it out of the park with this cupcake place. What That One Cupcake Place does right is make the most awesome cupcakes in the universe using fresh ingredients with Fabulous Frosting! I got a selection of cupcakes for my crew and we all sampled each one. Cupcakes are happiness wrapped in parchment paper. I will say I had a couple chocolate cupcakes and the cake was not as moist. I can tell you the Lemon Raspberry was a home run. Wow, the cake was so amazing, a flavor party explosion in your mouth. Pure awesomeness! The Birthday Cake was just as amazing. I also tried the French Toast, Cookie Dough which has amazing frosting, yummy. The Monster, Turtle, and Snickers. Wow, what a sugar high. Any given day, you'll find a nice selection including some seasonal favorites. Vegan options are often available too, and are definitely available by ahead ordered if you need more. So, yes, this is the only cup cake place in Cedar Rapids area for me. I also like the fact the topping not being overbearing or to sweet. I was on my way to look at a new place and saw the sign for That One Cupcake Place. Well, I just had to stop and see if they were open. Lo, and behold, I got lucky! They are now open on Sundays! The place has almost an olde-timey soda shoppe feel to it. Very sweet. Perfect for the sweet goodies that they produce. It took me a while to choose my cupcakes, but the place wasn't busy and the lovely lady behind the counter was happy to tell me what was in each cupcake. I finally settled on 4. (Normally, each cupcake is $2.75, but if you buy 4 it's $2.50 and if you buy 12 then it's $2.00.) I choose the strawberry cheesecake, a tiramisu, a chocolate chip cookie dough and a cherry almond. The cake is dense and moist, just incredible, and the icing is sugar overload! I will be honest and say that 1/2 a cupcake was perfect for me, but the other 1/2 kept beautifully until the next day. It's so rich and moist that it didn't dry out. I look at it as stretching my dollar without giving anything up! I am definitely a fan of this place! I was happy to hear that they have another location in Newbo City Market that is open Thursdays-Sunday. I will be making another trip to Cedar Rapids soon! read more

Wow! These cupcakes are incredible! Stopped here with some girls as a birthday treat. It was a tough decision, but settled on cookie dough. The cupcake was extremely moist (sorry to those of you who dislike that word). There were chocolate chips in the batter. The frosting was absolutely delicious. Very rich and sugary. Yum. I could have just eaten scoops of the cookie dough frosting! Cupcakes are about $2.50 each. The cold case was stocked with water and cans of pop. They also sold gallons of milk from a local dairy. Additionally, ice cream and butter from the dairy were also for sale. Can mix and match cupcakes to be boxed up as a cute little party gift. read more

Stopped in this afternoon to get a treat for a friend and me and settled on Strawberry and Pumpkin On Pumpkin. We ended up trading halves and couldn't decide which was more delicious! The strawberry was bursting with flavor, and the pumpkin was sweetly, perfectly spicy. I wanted to do something special for my baby sister celebrating her first birthday away at college. Based on other yelp reviews, I decided to try out That One Cupcake Place. The staff were absolutely amazing and took their time answering all of my questions, and making sure they understood what I wanted since I was ordering from another state. They delivered a 3 dozen assortment to her college for an incredibly nominal delivery fee, on time, and within a couple of days notice. Stopped by this morning to pick up cupcakes and the customer service was spectacular! The owner or manager overheard me saying I was gluten free and she gave me some leftover cupcakes they had from a couple days ago. And she didn't charge any extra for them! She also let me know that the cupcakes can be frozen to keep longer. I wouldn't have even thought about doing that before she mentioned it. We chatted a bit about being gluten free and how expensive it is to cook/bake when you are. People need to stop complaining about the cost of cupcakes! If you want to complain, make them yourself. These cupcakes are the best in town and we have and will continue to make the 15 minute drive across town to get them. read more

Hands down the BEST cupcake shop in Cedar Rapids. I have ordered cupcakes from That One Cupcake Place before to take to some of my customers and they absolutely LOVE them! The cupcakes are moist - no beverage required when you're eating these. I've tried the red velvet, almond/wedding day cake, monster cookie, and the Oreo....all were delicious...haven't tried a cupcake I didn't like. 10 days in advance of a very special event, I placed an order for a significant amount of cupcakes. Thought everything would be perfect for the event. Boy was I wrong. On the day of the event when the order was to have been picked up at 10 AM but when the person got there to pick up the cupcakes, they were not only not ready, they were not what we ordered! They took it upon themselves to decide what we should have. Yes, our contact information was on the order! Why weren't we contacted? Your guess is as good as mine. So when the cupcakes arrive two hours later again they were not what we ordered and they had chocolate chips in them. You do not give people with chocolate allergies chocolate chip cupcakes! You should never assume everyone likes chocolate! Nothing on our order mentioned anything about chocolate anywhere.
