This is a new spot, that if you are trying to find could very well be missed. Place opened about a month ago and when I came in, there were about 15 people sitting or standing, waiting for their food. First let me say that this isnt an ideal spot to sit and eat. There is a "bar" seating situation on the outer wall that has 10-15 seats and that's about it, other than the counter where you order. So this is definitely more of a to-go spot. Now for the best part, the food. Food was very good. Basic, flavorful tacos. I had a carne asada, el pastor, and they surprised me with a lingua (seasoned beef tongue). All tacos were excellent, filled with lots of meat and great toppings!! The red and green salsas were also excellent!! Great flavor with just the right amount of kick! Prices are reasonable, for two can drinks, three tacos, and my friends super burrito, totalled a little over $20. Service was a bit slow, but I hash it up to being busy and newness. Very disappointed by this experience. We ordered two steak (asada) tacos each, which is our baseline for comparison when trying someplace new. The person who took our order did not seem happy to be there, or maybe apathetic would be a better description. We were given one tray to share instead of two plates so my husband pur a few napkins down to use as a plate on the already dirty counter. Tortillas were greasy and the steak was dry and not flavorful at all. The meat tasted more "hervida" (boiled) than "asada" (grilled). The salsa for the tacos was supposed to be mild, but had no flavor at all. Zero. It was almost like putting water on the tacos. By the time I was ready to go to bed, I was feeling so bad I thought I was going to throw up but fortunately I was able to keep the food down and eventually fall asleep. I've eaten plenty of tacos de asada in my lifetime (Texas, California, Chicago, Mexico) and unfortunately, these were possibly the worst I've ever had. Cannot recommend. read more

The last time I was in, the cashier had some friends in the store and they were embroiled in a conversation while what proved to be my food sat in the windoe for about 3-4 minutes. Im in town for work and came here earlier this week and when I called to place my order today they refused to take my order without me paying first. I explained I only have tap to pay which is how I paid the other day and their excuse was they could not take the order without payment because they wouldn't be able to print a ticket for the cooks in the back. I explained that if they were logical and realistic they can simply tell the cooks the order , take a couple steps to the back to inform the order details. The guy on the phone agreed but still refused to take my order. Now, I could have driven there and gotten there at 7:55 to place an order since they close at 8 but I thought to call so I could just drive there, pay and pick up the food. It was really the poor ass excuse about not being able to print a ticket for the cooks in the back as if they were talking to someone with no common sense, let's keep in mind that place is 15 steps from wall to wall I'm glad everyone else has good things to say, I just can't relate due to my shitty experience read more

Food was ok. I'm from CA and grew up with very authentic food from Mexico, Guatemala, and other Latine cultures. My parents were also chefs in Latine and Italian cuisines. So I'm picky to say the least and I'm missing being able to go anywhere in Santa Ana and getting good Latine food. The flautas were standard. The salsa was ok, it's more like tomato and tomatillo sauce then hot sauce. The tamale was dry. The taco tortillas were dry. The arroz was ok but mushy. The torta bread was weird and had an odd after taste. The asada and pastor were flavorless, but the chorizo was great. The churro was the best part. Everyone we know, who isn't Latine, recommended this place. We will try it again but not getting our hopes up. read more

Hits the spot! I ordered 2 Mexican style chicken tacos. Both came with lime wedges, onion, radish and cilantro. I added a side of rice. The chicken is moist. The corn tortillas are good. You have to add lime juice to the chicken and the green (mild) salsa! The salsa is delicious! You get a good amount of chicken on each taco. The RICE was the star of the show! Not greasy! Was a bit disappointing with the food but we had a 30 min drive and ate at home so could be the reason. I had the beef and chicken taco american style and they were okay. Chicken was dry but ground beef was good! Then had the chorizo tostado that was good but didn't realize it was a sandwich. Then had horchata, watermelon and red hibiscus drink they were all tasty! My husband got tacos and he had a shrimp with lime and it was the best! We got queso chorizo and chips that was really cheesy and tasty. Then vanilla churros were good! I found El taco Loco, and was very happy with the tacos I bought there on numerous occasions over the next several months. Then, I tried their tamales, and was shocked at how awful they were! I mean a $9 burro that is not the size of my head, it's overpriced even though it's delicious. But if your pocketbook and tastebuds are in sync you have to try this place. They probably have the best tamales in the Midwest, they serve lengua, something you don't find in these parts and have delicious aguas frescas, you have to try watermelon. Walked in and this place was packed. Staff still super friendly. Line moved quick. Waited only a few minutes for food. We tried a few things. Both had the Super Taco, one Al Pastor and one with Steak, with cheese and lettuce instead of cilantro and onion. Both were outstanding. Tried steak nachos. Awesome. Kiddo had a carnitas taco. Stopped in at noon on a weekday expecting a long wait when I saw the crowded dinning area, and was pleasantly surprised to be out in and out in 10 minutes. Customer service was horrible. Today was my first time eating here. Asked lady at the counter what kind of cheese they had, she said mozzarella, I said fine as long as it's not cheddar. She says, "what are you talking about- it is cheddar." I'm thinking you just said mozzarella but at this point I just say no cheese because I'm not interested in surprises or arguing. She tells me my order is $9 and some change, I had her my debit card and she gives me a receipt that charged me $10. Apparently there is a $10 minimum but she didn't tell me that or ask if I wanted to order a drink or something to bring it above $10, she just charged me what she wanted. As for the food, I ordered 3 ground beef, Mexican style. The beef was good, so was the cilantro and onion but I'm not a fan of their yellow corn shells. Food was decent, person was not.
