Holy cow. Yum! Service was quick, food was quick, the women were very nice. My burrito was what dreams are made of. So well made - fresh ingredients. Honestly quite a value for the amount of food and how filling the burrito was. I am in Peoria for work and I can promise you I wouldn't get a burrito like this for this price in Charlotte. I posted a picture of my burrito on IG and the number of people that commented about looking up where this place was is a testament to the visual appeal. The flavor lived up to it. Can't wait to go back when I'm in town next. Super unassuming spot - so glad this was recommended to me.

I ordered tacos to go: carne asada, al pastor, and chorizo. They were still hot when I was finally able to eat them 20 minutes later. The cilantro and onion were a little heavy, but I'd rather have too much than not enough. The tacos were good, but not great. Not a lot of flavor. The salsa verde helped, but beware if you can't eat spicy since it has a kick. Love the wall decor and bright chairs. Friendly service, and cash discount is offered. It was ~$11 for the tacos. If I was in the area, I would go back to try something different, but not sure if I'd make a special trip.

They are very kind and welcoming. Food was fantastic!! Genuine Mexican food!! Excellent and reasonably priced. Wonderful agua Fresca limon!!! Cute decor and comfortable seating. Did I mention the food is absolutely wonderful. Try this place!! You will not regret it!!!!

After moving to Peoria, I've been trying to find authentic tripe tacos, and it's not easy to find them done right. The cashier confidently told me theirs were the best, and they were not wrong. The tripe was incredibly tender, fresh, and seasoned perfectly. Paired with their green salsa, it was honestly amazing. Definitely a 10/10. This is my new go-to taco spot! read more

Their food is both Quality and Quantity, the service is quick and personable. Lunch time it can be a bit busy, but the food is worth waiting for. Better if you just grab a table and enjoy the essence of the room. Everyone should try their food. read more

The cilantro and onion were a little heavy, but I'd rather have too much than not enough. The tacos were good, but not great. Not a lot of flavor. I forgot to take a picture bc it looked so good we just dug in. Las tortas son de buen tamaño y los tacos son de doble tortilla. We always judge Mexican spots by the bread and tortillas. Lol. Fast service. Great food. The Jamaica was just right - not too sweet. My kids are basic so they ordered quesadillas- but the did NOT disappoint, they were huge and full of queso. The chorizo was cooked well and not too greasy. I got una torta de alpastor it was yummy. my husband got una torta de carne asada nicely seasoned. And dos tacos de lengua. The salsas are nice. OH! One thing that impressed me was that the tortas and tacos were served with one Chile toreado just right. This is a good Mexican joint - they have cabeza, lengua and tripas (if you like that) the lengua was good. 5 stars. read more

The tacos here are authentic. I also enjoy the shrimp cocktail. The salsas are good. I only eat in if we are grabbing a quick bite while we are out and about. Otherwise, the ambiance is best for take out. The people and the service have always been great. A good choice if you want Mexican street tacos. read more

I had to use the restroom next to this business and unfortunately, they did not have anything to dry my hands. I walked out and noticed this woman sitting at this business, and I explained to her that the bathroom did not have anything to wipe my hands with and the hand dryer was broken. I then kindly asked if she would mind if I just got a couple napkins. She gave me a pretty dirty look and said " I will do it this time, but I don't usually don't just give these out to customers.". Now I can understand if I asked for any enormous amount or if I was rude in anyway. But neither of those things happened. My hands were soaking wet dripping on the floor. I also have a very painful condition in my hands so having to use hot or cold water is pretty excruciating on them. So getting them dry quickly is very important. I looked at her and replied with "well I'm only asking for a couple of napkins, I don't think that you needed to be rude about that." I took the napkins and started walking away, and she proceeded to get loud with me and go into detail about how she doesn't just give these out to customers. I turned around and told her very clearly, that I would not be returning to her business and I have been there a couple times before, but I definitely won't be using a business that treats me like this. She then got loud again, telling me that she did not care what I did and if I came back or not. I then turned around and looked at her, and I asked if she was the owner or if she just worked there. She said she was the owner. I was shocked. I told her, well an owner should absolutely not be acting like this. It's also the holidays, you could be a little bit kinder. It's just napkins. If it was that big of a deal, I could pay for them. She then proceeded to tell me that, that is what the hand dryer is for. Then took her hands and literally showed me how you would use them under a hand dryer. Absolutely uncalled for. So I told her I was going to take a picture and post this on this page and she sure stopped getting loud with me then. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand that a lot of people take advantage of small businesses. But there is no way that I would have turned somebody down that was standing there with soaking wet hands and could see they were in need. If I were to give napkins away for free at my business, and I want to make this clear again, she was the owner, I could've made this an opportunity to gain a customer or a return customer at this point by offering if there was anything I would like to purchase or to please make sure to come back and visit me, etc. I just thought I would share this so others knew how some of the customers were treated at this location. I know there's a lot of people out there like myself that are big on customer service and especially when it's the owner of a company. If this were just an employee, I really would not have posted. I do believe in supporting local and small businesses, but I will not be supporting this one again. Also, with looking online at their reviews where this business is advertised, there are quite a few negative reviews against the owner herself being rude to other customers as well.

The chips are bland and the salsa is just liquid ( no texture) with some flavor. Tacos combo is 12 dollars, birria tacos combo is 15 dollars. I would recommend getting a taco combo (3) with 2 chorizo and 1 carne asada taco with rice and beans. I wouldn't recommend the birria tacos. The price is high for the amount of food that you get. Our lunch was 36 dollars without tip! Water only to drink.

There was also a slightly unsettling 'alarm' that rang as the door was opened, not your typical 'ding dong' of a shop door. I picked up 5 pieces of tres leches cake - $4 a piece... a definite value! The gentleman behind the counter diligently and carefully packed each dripping moist piece of cake into its own to go box. Each piece of cake is topped with a glazed strawberry half - the cake was absolutely delightful. Moist, creamy, utterly delicious! I will definitely be back and highly recommend!

Well, queue my surprise when I learned that there was a Mexican ice cream shop in Peoria. One that has a name that leads you to think that maybe... just maybe this place is delicious. Doing what I normally do (as avid readers of this blog will know), I gathered up one of my friends who likes to travel (Matt) and we headed over the Illinois River (not the Peoria River) to get some ice cream (and add more bracketed comments to this paragraph for no reason). The location of Las Delicias is a bit of an odd one. Actually, those whole road of shops is not a greatly planned out area. You have all these shops along Main St but the parking situation leaves a lot to be desired. You usually have to hunt for a place to park and sometimes walk a small distance to your destination. I just wanted to put this in here as a warning should you want to venture down Main St. Matt and I found a place to park and headed in. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly cashier and shop that was small and felt homely (in a good way). This place truly felt like it was a family-owned. Matt and I browsed the handful of offerings and I was surprised by the flavors. Granted, this was over 5 years ago, so I don't remember the specifics and I failed to take a photo of what was being offered at the time. I grabbed some kind of strawberry ice cream while Matt got himself some flavor that I never heard of before. We paid for our ice cream desserts and headed out. I think there were a few chairs inside to sit but due to the small-sized of the restaurant, we opted to eat outside as we walked back to my car. I am a sucker for strawberry (and peanut butter) flavored treats. At this point in my life, I had quite a few different strawberry-flavored items but this one is the only one that instantly blew me away. Something about the quality of this dessert was unreal. It was far and above beyond anything you would find in the store unless you option for the expensive stuff. This stuff tasted homemade and had love in every scoop. I can't properly describe how much I loved this ice cream cone and how sad I was when it was gone. If you find yourself in Peoria and are on a circuit of trying out all the ice cream places, this one needs to be at the top of your list. You won't regret it. If you do go and you do regret it, lo siento. That's what life is all about though, right? Trying new things and seeing what the world has to offer.

It was on the corner of a street away from a commercial district but not quite in a residential area. Tim, Matt, and I pulled up for an early dinner one evening and were greeted by some friendly workers. We placed our orders at the counter and took a seat at one of the few empty tables. There were a few others in the restaurant but due to the sheer small size, it felt packed with just the few of us in there. As with a lot of Mexican places, we had our food out in front of us before we even had time to really dig in to a random topic. Not only was it cooked exceptionally fast but the sheer amount of food was borderline nonsense for the price we paid. You gotta start somewhere, so I started by eating the extra goodies that came with my burrito. It was a combination of rice, refried beans (?) and some salad stuff topped with sour cream, I think. Scarfing down the sides was easy as the food was pretty good aside from the bean paste stuff. That was a bit dry. After priming my stomach for the main course by downing the side stuff, I used my fork and knife to cut in to the burrito. As is the norm at these places, the burritos are massive. Like, this is half the size of a loaf of bread. It's gut-busting sized. But, I was able to use my knife and fork to shovel down most of the burrito. I had to tap out at about 1/4 left as I just couldn't do it. The food was just too much. I think my meal was under $10 so to get full for that much is an incredible value in my book. The burrito was on par with the side stuff. It was good, if not borderline great. El Mexicano would've definitely been a place I would revisit if they were still open. It didn't help that we put down a ton of chips and salsa in between bites as well. I love chips and salsa. Matt was in the same boat as me. Unable to finish. Tim was the victor and put down all his stuff and then some more of the chips and salsa. The man is a beast when he wants to be. So, it was a sad day when I was doing some searching around on Google and discovered El Mexicano had closed. Here is a link to an article the local newspaper did on it closing, if you are interested. I was surprised to see it had been in the area for 16 years. At that point, it becomes a staple to the area.
