Awesome, authentic Mexican flavors, and great service!! Pleasant surprise in our visit to Brainerd!

I ordered the beef fajitas. I rarely order fajitas due to lack of meat. That wasn't an issue here. It had great flavor. Traveling from the west coast so I would say for Brainerd it was great. Even if I got it back home I would have been happy. Lots of well flavored meat. Could have used more sour cream. Only downfall wasthe tortillas weren't home made. Great place. I will go back if I find myself in Brainerd ever again! read more

This is a very good Mexican restaurant. Being from Southern Ca, this is the best prepared and tastey Mexican food I like. Salsa was prepared right. Food served hot. Drinks reasonable prices. They are off road and sometimes hard to notice. Anyway, will be back. Maybe bring my trumpet and have a band here. read more

The food is good but they don't have online ordering and they can't take a phone order without messing it up. They have a 100% fail rate at getting my last two orders right. It's unacceptable and they're not accommodating when I call to address the issue (last time, I ordered four entrees for four people, they only gave me three and then blamed me?!). The person taking the orders is clearly in a rush and doesn't listen well. I won't order from here again. read more

So disappointed in the restaurant. Needed to use the restroom but was refused at the door. If you don't have a mask and you are eating outside you can't use the restroom inside maybe you should put up an outhouse for your outside eating customers. read more

El Tequila is good times. This is as good as it gets for this genre of food in the Brainerd Lakes area. Don't forget to ask for their hot salsa (they don't bring this by default) if you can handle spicy foods. This was our first time as it is a fairly new place. We ate outside in the parking lot dining area. The tables were very nicely spaced. The margarita was wonderful the Modelo draft beer was large. The chimmy was excellent and also the fajitas. Some day we will eat inside we still had a great time. read more

Convenient location near Costco. I love Mexican food so was excited to try this place. The crew seemed very upbeat and happy as they were singing loudly to Latin pop. The food was served very quickly for us being there at 1pm. I didn't think much about us being the only ones dining inside because of covid restrictions. I got a simple vegetarian meal. Cheese enchilada and bean burrito. The first taste of the enchilada was bad. It was a runny white cheese I have had before but didn't like, topped with canned tomato soup. I push it aside and try the bean burrito. It took every bit of intestinal fortitude to not spit it right back out. My mother took a taste and had the same reaction. Absolutely the worst thing I've tasted in my 53 years. They tasted spoiled and were very runny like they were cleaning out a3 week old pan. I could not find enough redeeming qualities to consider a good recommendation. read more

We had lunch here today, really feel for this guy. He moves to the previous Olive Garden only to be shutdown due to the virus. Very pleasant staff and appreciative of our business. Definitely as good as mexican food gets in the Brainerd Lakes region. I've been here a ton of times with friends and co-workers and I honestly can't remember one complaint. Their enchiladas, tamales, and chori pollo is amazing... if not the healthiest choice on the menu... I've eaten there with people from Texas a few different times, and even they were impressed by how good the food was. Brainerd needs more places like El Tequila- read more

Having spent most of my life in Texas and California, I'm probably too tough a critic for a Mexican place this far north. The food is nothing special and the margaritas are much too sweet. Still, I enjoy going there now and then. The spicy cheese dip is my favorite there. The service is also excellent and the staff is very friendly and nice. read more

Currently sitting in my room at the Holiday Inn eating the crap that was put in a tortilla, and was decidedly called a "burrito". Being from chicago I know good Mexican, I know bad Mexican, and I know great Mexican. Brainerd might only have 8 Mexicans in the entire town but I don't think they know what they're doing. I can deal with sub par ingredients in a $12 burrito (seriously though) but I won't let these wonderful people in town eat this food without knowing how bad my experience was. I'm refusing to eat the rest of this burrito or even attempt to eat my quesadilla because it's covered in American cheese. AMERICAN! Also the food came out way too fast. Pretty upset at the moment. This place has your standard greasy Mexican fare. Huge huge HUGE portions. And pretty decent Mexican food. Definitely the American version of Mexican food. You will probably leave this place 10 pounds heavier! read more

Behind the bar you'll find Jose' - he remembered what I liked from a visit a month prior; again he hooked me up with some wonderful authentic pork tacos with cilantro, lime and onion. They were full of flavor and the service was fantastic! I did specifically ask for only authentic Mex fare and chatted about it with them beforehand, if you know what you want and ask for it I'm sure you'll be pleased. Food & service was very good. We had a party of 4 and all were satisfied. When we are in this area again, we will visit again.

Saturday evening it was busy but we didn't wait for a table. Seating area very clean. The staff is fast friendly courteous. Everyone friendly not just the server taking our order. They have a vegetarian section on the menu with about 5 or so items on it. That makes finding veg options so easy and then I could veganize my order. I ordered the veg fajitas without cheese or sour cream and that is exactly how I got them. I could eat that meal anytime I go there. Big sizzling plate of veg. Mushroom onions peppers squash carrots potatoes cactus. It was terrific. Came with beans, lettuce, guacamole, rice. Way too much for me to eat in one sitting which is great I took the rest home. My wife and daughter shared a meal also from the veg menu and split it. Along with the comp chips and salsa we chowed on when we sat down we were stuffed. Great food prices were reasonable. Sometimes it seems the veg items are about the same price as regular items. Here it seems the veg items were discounted and they provided a great portion of it too. read more
