I came to town for work and was looking for some dinner places. I came across this location on Yelp. It looked fresh so I decided to give it a try. They told me this is their brand new location. The inside is bright, clean, and new. They had a great layout to build your burritos or bowls and the prices were fantastic. I got the steak burrito bowl with cilantro rice, black beans, queso, and veggies. Everything was fresh, clean tasting, and tender. The staff at this location are always charming and helpful and the food is consistently the same which is moderately delicious and reasonably fresh. You can get a cup of queso or fajitas and they will customize your wrap as you like, and the refrigerator full of drinks meet you at the end of checkout. Burritos California is definitely one of them little hole in the wall joints you'd end up passing right up if you blinked while driving thru Brainerd, not really much for signage outside besides some pictures in the windows but if you happen to find it you'll be leavin with a swamped out belly. The place is set up like a chipotle with the options laid out and they make the food right in front of you, but it's definitely more authentic then your middle of the mall type Qdoba or chipotle joint. I opted for the Shredded Chicken this go round. The chicken had good flavor to it mixed with peppers, the Spanish rice was aight. I will say I got the hottest sauce they had in the jernt and there wasn't much kick to it to this gringo..... they could definitely step that up. Burritos California is tucked away just off Hwy 210 in west Brainerd in the parking lot with Wells Fargo and the UPS store. We are regulars here. To us the fresh ingredients makes BC what it is. With these fresh ingredients you can build your burrito or bowl any way your like. Only thing I would like to see added is fresh jalapeños vs the pickled available today. The restaurant is open for dine in or take out. The staff is warm and friendly. The place is smaller but clean and fill of bright colors and Spanish wrestler pictures. It's a fast food set up, so the food is ready to go the moment you walk in. It reminds me of Chipotle from the burrito bowls they have to the food they offer. I had a carnitas bowl, it was good. They also gave me double meat and extra salsa at no charge. Loved the food and the place. They didn't have any pico de gallo or my favorite habanero salsa. That's why I'm giving them 4 stars. As far as fast food choices in the Brainerd area, Burritos California is my first choice. Burritos California is a blatant knock-off of Chipotle (and I'm more than OK with that). They have a comparable list of ingredient choices and flavor profiles. The food is flavorful (this is a big one for me since the flavor profile of most "food" in the area seems to be limited to salt and fat), done quickly, and cheap. edit: I just finished my third burrito and it was just as good as the previous two. So far, I've tried, chicken, steak, and chorizo and liked them all. Edit2: Now that they've been in business a while, they've worked out all the kinks of a new place. Previously, I had rated 4-stars but am bumping it up to 5 because they've got me hooked. They really kicked up the heat in the hot salsa (highly recommend) and the chorizo is outstanding. read more

Portion sizes were very good but the overall flavor was a bit lackluster. No real pop of flavors. Otherwise this was good lunch for t he price.
