First time visit for breakfast based on recommendation from another fantastic local restaurant manager. The homemade jumbo carmel rolls (to go) were a hit with the kids and were still warm when I got home. The server waited to have to heated up until I was ready to go to ensure they would be warm. It was a great touch. Based on the recommendation did the breakfast burrito. So glad that I did as it was a meal for 2 but filled with eggs, sausage, bacon, cheese, shredded hashbrowns, and maybe some grilled onions. Then topped with queso cheese sauce and the option for spicy or default homemade salsa. I did the spicy salsa on the side for my half and the regular salsa on the side to go for the other half. Definitely a burrito for two. When the bartender found out that this was my first visit she walked me thru the menu and the specials that are available on the weekend (limited quantities smoked ribs and beef brisket) So glad that a trusted voice recommended I give Sunshine's a try. Third time here and I really like this place. This time it was for breakfast and man was it good. The Brisket Scramble was amazing. Really good brisket with perfectly done eggs. Ask for the spicy sauce you like some heat. The Avocado toast was also tasty. Dinner or lunch has also been good with unique options and chef made food. Check out their cool cocktails. We came here to celebrate in laws 64th Anniversary as Bar Harbor was Uber expensive. Wasn't very hungry and ordered Beet Burrata salad which was beets, arugula, vinegette and burrata cheese. Very good. We were a party of 12 and spent a lot of money on food and beverages. What deducts from a 5 star review is the $25 charge to cut a cake. Granted we were told there was a fee and we used their plates and silverware. The server even was given a slice. One relative insisted we needed a cake. Smh. Service was good. read more

Easy to get a table Saturday night in the fall. In fact, it was pretty quiet when we arrived, which was surprising. I hope this is only a seasonal slump as I really enjoyed the food at Sunshine's Summerhouse and want them to remain open next time I'm back in this area. Ordered the Cajun chicken avocado sandwich (server said this is one of their bestsellers, after the burger) - did not disappoint. Fries are seasoned well and crispy - not your standard/typical fries. Cole slaw is a generous scoop serving. I'm a big fan of cole slaw in general and theirs is pretty darn good. Cheese curds are a bit heavy on the coating and just so-so IMO. I think you can find better elsewhere. read more

We visited at the end of September so it wasn't very busy. The food and drinks at this place are great. I had a spicy margarita which was legit good and my hubby had the smoky margarita which he also enjoyed. Cheese curds were better than average. Soup of the day was Thai coconut which had great flavor. The best item was the pizza. We had the pepperoni pizza with honey. Delicious. Best pizza we'd had in the lakes area hands down. Great little diner with a full bar. They're just south of Quarterdeck on 77. Great place for brunch (weekend only), lunch, or dinner. I had the burnt ends sandwich. It was a little unwieldy to handle but the flavor was there. The pickled onions add some tang to the sweet bbq sauce. Maybe go a touch lighter on bbq. The sauce made my bun wither and crumble. Ate here recently and the food and service was top-notch, even on a busy Friday night. We had the smoked ribs with slaw and BBQ beans, all of which were very tasty. The blood orange margarita was also on point. Although this is nit-picky, I was slightly turned off when I ordered a side of BBQ sauce for my ribs (they were dry rub and not saucy at all) and was charged for it. Seems like places are charging for extra sauces now, which is annoying when you pay a lot of money for a meal to begin with. But we will definitely be returning soon after a great experience! read more

We checked into Ernies on Gull on a gorgeous Saturday night. Told it was over an hour wait. With 2 kids under 6 it wasn't going to work. We decided to try Sunshine's Summerhouse. 4.5 rating on Yelp. 15 minutes away. Got there and saw there was plenty of open seating inside and out. Our party of six was seated immediately. Sunshine's features an amazing Craft Cocktail menu. Super affordable. Tequila Old Fashion, Jalapeño margarita, to name just a few, were outstanding. Family run business. Husband & wife both working the restaurant. Service (Meg) so sweet was very casual. But timely! Food was really good. I had a grape and blue cheese flat bread. Oh this place is amazing. My nana took us here for lunch because a tavern called Kelly's used to be here. The decoration was upscale. It gave me that beach house feel. The staff was friendly. The food was amazing. My nana had the cactus tacos, which has a texture like peppers. I had the summerhouse salad, which was had a mix of sweetness due to the candied walnut and raspberries. Quiet Sunday at Sunshine's. Service was perfectly good! Food and cocktails came to the table quickly. The margarita was wonderful. Palomino was a new try and was fine but probably won't try again. I'm not sure Fried Chicken on a bed of French fries actually had a bed. Was spicy but lacked flavor. Carnitas were good but small portion as well as the burger. Stopped in around noon just after the restaurant began serving lunch (which they do once the summer "high season" kicks in). We received a nice welcome from the smiling servers (a nice change from a couple experiences we had at other places earlier in the week). We placed our order from the relatively small but pleasingly, reasonably priced menu and the food arrived quickly looking (see photo) and tasting good. Ingredients used on my friend's Caesar Salad appeared to be fresh as well...crispy and cold. Anyway, it's worth mentioning the restaurant/restrooms were spotless and we look forward to visiting again soon to try the outdoor patio and other menu options. This place was a pleasant surprise in a welcomed location off the main Baxter/Brainerd mix of overpriced, unimaginative food and sketchy service options that have become a trademark of the area. I've had lunch here before and it was decent. Went to breakfast there last weekend and was very disappointed. Every one in our group felt the same. When you only offer either scrambled eggs or fried eggs and not done well very well at that. Show some creativity and I will return. read more

Came here for Mother's Day brunch. The food they did have was good! But they were out of their stuffed French toast, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, Caramel rolls, deviled eggs, and churros. Almost half of what they advertised for. They put out donuts to make up for this. We tried to be understanding as Mother's Day is a busy day for brunch. When we went to pay, I mentioned this to the guy taking my payment. He got defensive right away saying they put up other stuff to make up for it- the donuts. They did end up discounting the bill which is great, but not one time did anyone apologize for any of this and once I paid he said "$65 for 4 people to eat brunch. There you go." Almost to rub it in. Isn't that what you do in a restaurant, is discount food when people aren't satisfied, especially when you advertised for this huge buffet menu and provided maybe half of it? Anyways, very disappointing. A simple apology or acknowledging that they felt bad for being out of everything would've went a long way. Won't be back read more

This is a wonderful little gem! We popped over during our stay at Grandview lodge and it was an easy and beautiful 15 minute drive. Definitely worth coming in when your in town. First, cocktail menu is inspired and expertly crafted. I loved the raspberry mojito. Food is tasty and flavorful- we loved the Grilled Chicken Scampi (subbed zoodles which were great), Cajun Chicken sandwich and the flatbread pizzas. Cheese curds and yummy dipping sauce also not to be missed. I have to say the fries are legit.....I wish we ordered more. Very friendly service and a wonderful interaction with the owner Joe. "Summerhouse burger is one of the best I have ever had." Said my son who is very skimpy with his ratings. Nashville hot chicken was very unexpectedly hot which I really enjoyed. We are very conservative with our ratings, but it's hard not to give these guys a 7 out of 5! We are staying at the Grand View Lodge where the food is super good, but this place is only a few miles away and the food here is worth every penny and then some. read more
