We took a chance on El Toro over McD's half way in to a 1000 mile drive... and it was great! If this was in our 'hood we'd be regulars. Food was fast, fresh and as good as any quick serbice Mexican grill. I recommend the Acapulco Special for lunch. Kids had the cheese quesadilla and chicken fingers and they were a welcome change from roadtrip fast food. 4.5/5 food was Delicious!! Had the Carnitas Michoacán. Excellent!! Very flavorful and a little spicy. I love hot food. Sever recommended it and he was right. Big portion. Two meals easily for me. Rice, beans, traditional salad with drop of guac and flour tortillas. My friend had enchiladas rancheras served with steak fajitas on top(menu had pork listed but they switched it up). Two meals easily for her, too. Very good! Lots of veggies and meat. Both dishes came out hot. Salsa was good. Chips meh. Thin(best kind) but cold and a little stale. Pepsi products- blah!!! Great sweet tea! Missed the sweet tea:) server was okay. He had to be asked a couple of times(a few times) for more napkins, salsa, refills.- he wasn't really friendly and didn't seem happy, but to be fair the restaurant was busy. Two dinners and two drinks $30! Well worth it and reasonable. Better prices and dishes then where we live. The manager was bringing out food. Have an outside seating area and there was live music. Good tunes as we could hear going in and leaving. Only disappointed that there was no sign requiring masks. People waiting for takeout, servers, manager and some patrons were complying. But some not. They did have hand sanitizers hung on the walls. Oh, yeah have to scan the square on the table with your camera for the menu. Little small, but great added precaution and savings for the environment and restaurant with no paper menus(they do have them if needed). 3 locations in different states. I gave this restaurant another go on Saturday after spending a lovely afternoon at an art fair at Verona Vineyards, down the road on Hwy 14. With dear friends (one of whom is a vegetarian) and 3 children, we decided that Mexican food would satisfy everyone in our party and I remembered El Toro Bravo. Again, the wait staff is stellar--we arrived during lunch seating, so I stuck to the lunch offerings and chose the chicken fajitas. They arrived sizzling and the lunch portion was enough to feed an army! I remembered from my last visit that they had a house-made sauce that was really tasty, and appealed to the chili-lover in me, and I asked them for a bowl, which they happily obliged. Gave the fajitas just the right kick and I took the remainder home for lunch today. Normally, in places like this, I don't do doggy bags because it's not that memorable that I want to eat it again. I've been coming here for years. The atmosphere was always fun and friendly, and the food was good and you got a lot for your money. But recently it's changed. The atmosphere is no longer as fun, and the atmosphere wasn't as friendly as it was a year ago. The prices have gone up for all of the food, and it's no longer as good as it used to be. For example, I've ordered the same thing every time I go there, and they always fulfilled my order the way I asked. But, now they charge extra for what I wanted, and the amount of food they did give me decreased. Definitely not going back anytime soon. read more

This used to be our favorite place ever. We went here at least 6 times a month, if not more. Lately, the portion sizes have gone down significantly. I always get the Alambres. This is about a $15 dish, but it's my favorite thing they have. Last time we went (about a week and a half ago), the skillet it comes in was only 1/3-1/2 of the way full. I ate this and was still starving. We honestly left and went to a drive through, which sucks considering we spent about $50 and were still hungry when we left. I noticed many other patrons complaining as well about the amount and temperature of their food. I'm not sure what happened, but we will probably be switching to a different Mexican joint if things don't improve. :( read more

By the way, I highly recommend this 4 meat wonderland. How can you go wrong with steak chicken shrimp and chorizo? The problem was it took 40 minutes to get our order. Then we didn't see our waiter again the rest the night. No drink refills. No salsa refills. No chip refills. Heck we had to ask someone else for a check. Excellent Authenic Mexican food! A say this is a must try! Even the free chips and salsa are excellent! Chips come out hot, salsa seems to be runny but has excellent flavor and by the bottom of the cup you will become addicted! Excellent beef dishes, had a taco, burrito and enchilada. All were very good and I am more than stuffed! Good kids menu too! Free Magarits for hour birthday and also seen a sign for Karoke on Thursday's after 8 if your into that. Beer was good and cold, chips were average and salsa was ok. However queso was like milk with some pepper sprinkled in, I had a fajita beef quesadilla and it came folded over, not cut, and the beef was overly cooked strips of salty crap. My wife had a taco... easy right? Thing leaked all over her plate worse than a Taco Bell version! I had some guacamole and sour cream.... maybe a teaspoon of each ... service was ungodly slow - although it was 6:30 on a Friday night, but it wasn't packed.. and I can see why. This was my 2nd trip here - the old "second chance " trip as the first wasn't memorable either - and I have now confirmed why I will not be back. My wife and I have been coming to El Toro since it opened, and we haven't had a bad meal yet. Unlike many Mexican restaurants, consistency seems to be the norm here. We usually order the alambres, and they always come out seasoned and cooked right. In our experience, not alot of local Mexican restaurants pull that off. The salsa is good, obviously made fresh: big plus there. My wife usually orders the Margaritas, and even on special, the alcohol isn't skimped on. The only downside is the service: very hit or miss. One server, however, always delivers good service. Kudos to Carmen. read more

I ate here tonight for the third time. There is a small bar area as well as patio dining which faces the Kohl's parking lot. The interior has nice color tones but they have not invested much in the way of design with their atmosphere. The food is pretty good with the exception of the chile rellano which was VERY spicy and made with greasy ground beef. What was more notable tonight was the lack of service. The place was not very busy. My waiter only checked on me once in an hour by his own initiative. After I got the check I put money in it and it sat on my table for half an hour until I finally decided to just leave and make my own change. During that half hour I watched 2-4 staff sitting in front of the bar watching TV. read more

Coming from a mexican family and having lived in Houston, TX (home of amazing tex-mex) and San Diego, CA (home of amazing baja-mex) for the majority of my life, I'm a great critic of mexican restaurants. And, I have to say I was pleased. Pleased to say that this place is a legitimate and authentic mexican restaurant. The salsa and chips need work, but their fajitas and fresh corn tortillas were very good. The serving size is also very good. It will fill you up. The waiters will speak to you in spanish if you would like to practice. The beer selection is on point and so are the margaritas. Overall, a great joint. read more

I can't believe I just gave El Toro one star, after raving about it over the last few years. But I am, and here's why... Arrived on a Sunday at 4:00 p.m.; it wasn't very busy in there at all, at most 4-6 other patrons on our side of the dining room. After we sat down, I remarked to my wife that the floor looked like it hadn't been swept at all between lunch and dinner shifts. Filthy. Then my wife goes to unwrap her silverware, and the roll-up had salsa-stained fingerprints on it. The silverware wrap had obviously been recycled from a previous diner's table, without even an attempt to conceal the salsa-stained evidence. At this point, I'm about done. Our food arrives: I ordered the Alambres, which have been a long-standing favorite of mine. They arrive, not sizzling and hot like they normally are, but lukewarm, the cheese not even completely melted. The last straw was the bacon: normally it's obviously sauteed with the peppers, semi-crispy and rendered. This time, the bacon looked like it had been briefly dipped in boiling water and then tossed on the plate. Zero browning, zero rendering of fat, all limp, fatty, chewy, and gross. I sent it back, asked to pay for our drinks and leave. The waiter--obviously new to the place as I had never seen him there before--had the nerve to sit there smirking while I showed him the Alambres. I asked him if he thought it was so amusing, that perhaps he would care for a bite. No takers. No manager showed up after this debacle, no attempt to salvage a bad situation. If they don't care enough to lose a long-standing customer's business, then I have no problem taking it elsewhere. read more

This place is our go to place. Being from California we have some really good Mexican food there and when we moved to Kentucky we lucked out finding this place!! The staff is so friendly its clean and comfortable inside and not to loud that you can't hear your self think. Only thing I would change is they allow smoking on the bar side of the restaurant. I hate that, just request to sit on the other side of the restaurant and you should be fine. read more
