Today was Taco Tuesday at our local Mexican restaurant, but we actually didn't go with tacos today, lol. We've come plenty of times for tacos, but this time wanted something different This evening we went with a Chicken Fajita Taco Salad and Chicken Enchiladas with beans and rice. Both classic dishes were spot on for the quick in-and-out experience. Food was cooked just right with all the right balance to make the flavors pop! My wife added a side of fresh jalapenos that spiced things up a bit. As you know sometimes jalapenos can be hot, and sometimes not, but tonight they were definitely hot, just the way she likes them! Went for the fajitas for lunch. We arrived at about 11:45am right after they opened. Ordered the Texanas fajitas, the meat tasted old like it was left over from the day before. The steak and chicken were chopped up into little pieces and the whole meal was very greasy, only received 2 small shrimp in the whole platter. Our Waitress could not have been nicer. The food was absolutely superb ! My meal was delicous. I also liked my grandma's meal. She didn't finish all of hers and I took the rest home for later. My family has never had a bad meal or experience coming here for lunch or dinner and this evening was no exception. The food is always hot, well prepared, pleasant to look at, and delicious. The service is consistently excellent. The staff are attentive timo refills in drinks and chips/salsa. We enjoy how the menu has become more authentic is recent years. The staff have helped us celebrate birthdays and always make it special for whoever it is for. Just a good, solid restaurant all around. We came in to the restraint thinking that it would be a nice day to sit outside. We were wrong, there was a bees best outside on the patio so bees keot swarming our table. We moved tables three times. On top of that my cheese quesadilla came out pretty burnt. I've had better experiences here. read more

Everything we ate was great! I got the street tacos carnitas that came with charro beans and rice. The street tacos I could take them or leave them. Huge portions of pork topped with onion and cilantro. You could take that it was pork and bbq'd (not sauce but smoky). The beans though. I ate them all and have no regrets!! So much bacon, onions and peppers! Yum!! When the rice mixed with the juice from the beans it made the rice even better!! I'll go back to get another order of those charro beans! Let's say, I was starving, and I was super excited to come to el toro for the first time. My parents had plenty of stories of drinking fun, and I finally got to go out with them and experience this treasure in the Huber Heights area. When we arrived, there was a short wait but nothing drastic. We were sat in a booth within fifteen minutes of arriving. Immediately the staff chuckled at my mom because she has a good reputation with the restaurant because of a night out with my dad where she tried a large signature drink and left a little drunk. It was a great feeling knowing that my mom had a bit of a reputation for being the life of the party. Anyways, within minutes we had chips and salsa on our table. They took our drink orders and appetizers. I ordered the loaded fries and prepared for the massive order of chimichangas I ordered. My mom got the steak and shrimp. My dad ordered one of their signature drinks and steak. The food was delicious. The food was cooked to perfection, and the flavor was impeccable. Oh! Make sure to try their desert. It's been a long while since I've been to an El Toro. The food was terrible. No flavor and way to salty. I had the burrito/enchilada combination. The only way I could tell the difference between the two was visibly seeing some sauce on the enchilada. Rice and beans were super bland. The rice just tasted like it was cooked in high sodium chicken broth. Did I mention the salt??? It's worth mentioning about 3 more times, it was that bad. I can safely say this was the worst Mexican food I've ever had. And I've had a lot in many different states. I know Ohio tends to be on the mild side, which I am totally ok with, but that doesn't mean there should be zero flavor... except the salt of course. read more

I have left good reviews in the past, I really wish I could give them 6 stars! I was there three times last week and again last night. This goes down as one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to. The staff is so kind and personable. Every time I go in, I'm treated like family. Angelica, Abigail, and Alberto are fantastic! I recommend the California Burrito or the Pollo Loco. So much flavor and the portion sizes have me eating leftovers for days. There salsa is some of the best I've ever had as well. I've gone in several times just to order containers of salsa. On Tuesdays, they have Taco Tuesday where the tacos are only $1. This El Toro in Huber Heights is the best that I've been to for this local chain. I was here on a date and I have to say that both the food and the service were tremendous! I had the Carne Asada and although I wouldn't say it was as authentic as the amazing authentic Mexican food I get back home on the west coast, it was pretty damn good. The steak itself was juicy and charred nicely, the rice and beans were very flavorful and the guacamole was awesome!! I really like this place as far as local chains go and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for great Mexican food in the Dayton area. read more

Visited this location for lunch on Sunday. Restaurant appeared well staffed for the moderate amount of patrons. Our waitress was mediocre. She performed her tasks, but was not friendly. Our food was ok, but not great. Our queso dip was very thin and runny. Our meals lacked sauces and were dry (enchiladas). I came in at 12pm on a Sunday. No wait to be seated, staff was nice. The amoretto sour was good and only $5 because it was on a regular list. No Mojitos though due to no mint which sucks cause they're my favorite. The food is where the problem was. I got the enchilada, taco, rice and beans lunch special. The chicken enchilada was perfect. The taco smelled burnt and was disgusting! The beans tasted like they put cinnamon in them. I even told the manager about the taco and he offered me another one. I didn't want another burnt taco.... The Huber Heights location is cozier (old Uno Pizzeria) yet feels more spacious than other locations, and is convenient to shopping and I-70. Andale, amigos!! read more

Came to El Toro for some Mexican food. Hadn't been to this location in about three years.Unfortunately aside from the barriers of communication and misunderstandings about orders, the food was just OK. A few things I could mention but the worst one was when you order the fajitas and they bring it to you with a small 3 inch hot pan holder they leave it on the pan at your table. The problem is there is food gunk all over it and I don't think it appeared to be ever washed it had a smell and I would smell the nasty pan holder. People flying in and out of this place so fast and love the free chips and salsa but I question the cleanliness and the quality of the food This place has gone downhill read more

I love Mexican food. But I'm far from a snob about how it should be made. To me good Mexican is not that difficult. If you have the right recipes which most (not all) Mex restaurants do, it usually comes down to whether or not you are using good ingredients. Unfortunately El Toro seems to skimp in this area. Yes the chips were good and hot. Yes the salsa was made well. The service was great too. And the prices were okay. But the ingredients truly miss the mark. Fir instance, the meats were very poor cuts full of fat and gristle. And the tortillas were tiny, thin and greasy. El Toro is not bad, particularly for Dayton. It's just not very good. They were very busy at dinner time but out family of four had our orders taken and food delivered to our table very quickly. Everything came out super fast and the waiter was very attentive, despite how busy it was! Margaritas are fantastic here. We ordered the midrange option - which included Grand Marnier. The whole pitcher was only $18 and it was HUGE. More than enough for the both of us. It lasted all through the meal! Hot chips and delicious salsa came out as soon as the water was placed on the table. Salsa refills were graciously given throughout the meal. I had the chicken & shrimp fajitas and it was fantastic! It was a huge amount of food--- the chicken & shrimp were deliciously flavored, too. My companion ordered one of the combo platters and was also thrilled with his food. Wow, I am from Phoenix, AZ and know a little about Mexican food. This place would be good in AZ, let alone the middle of Ohio. Authentic decor, authentic staff and authentic food. We shared some Fajitas and they were much better than expected, hence the 4. It would be hard to give a non border state Mex place a 5, but I was tempted. However, this isn't Via De Los Santos. Good variety of Mex beers and others on tap (No IPA and that's OK, The only Mexican IPA I have had was just so so and Mex food is for Mex lager beer). If you're in Dayton or near by, this El Toro is great. I can't speak for the other 8 outlets, but I'd give them a try if near by. read more

Left the table and menus (which are filthy and covered in dried salsa) in my hand. "do you want salt on your margarita glass?" He asked. "Yes"-which must mean no salt. Amazing! Visiting my sister-in-law from out of town and I was craving Mexican food. Not only was the food and service and food were timely and delicious BUT I spoke to the hostess about one toilet being out of paper And with one minute someone was in there tending to it despite it being so crowded and on a wait list. If you want food quick, delicious AND I forgot to tell you I ordered a frozen margarita but received one on the rocks but server #9 (I forgot his name And looked in the receipt and says sever #9) replaced it with on a smile on his face.
