We had a pleasant dining experience. I was hoping to find a combination platter but decided to get a burrito; Jenni got cochinita pibil which was pork with rice and beans. She said it was great. My burrito was very good. As usually happens, I saw other food brought out of the kitchen and if we go back, I'll definitely get the King Burritto which looked amazing. The chips and salsa were just okay however Juan, our server, was great and was attentive without being overwhelming. This lunch was very quick! Our server was very efficient and I used the Yelp check in $7 off offer. Portions were big and prices were fair. I ordered the chicken fajitas with fresh jalapeño mixed in. The speed in which it was served made me wonder whether it was all prepped in kitchen and served on extremely hot cast iron to provide the sizzle sound ... I still ate it all though. The food and drinks are always excellent. Will start by saying our server was a young girl who seemed new. I am a recovering addict who doesn't drink alcohol so I ordered a virgin drink. My drink was served alcoholic and had to be returned and that is a huge trigger for some people in my situation. Also my drink looked nothing like the picture on the menu. Was told our drinks were happy hour prices and was charged full price. We ordered a grilled cheese and fries kids meals but she didn't understand us and brought shredded chicken and rice. Mediocre Mexican food, of course no one says: "Let's go to Ohio for Mexican food" Both the entree and the salsa had so little salt it must have been allergic to such seasonings. Overall it left the food rather bland. The chorizo in the burrito helped, but didn't elevate it above mediocre. Refried beans, onions, and pulled pork in the burrito was good. The pork was super tender, but yet again, flavorless. No cilantro or herbs in the salsa, tastes like tomato sauce and onions mixed together. The Modelo was good! Whole place needs a cleaning. We were out of town for a bowling tournament. A group of 5 of us looked for dinner that evening and all the popular restaurants had 1-2 hour waits and we were hungry now. Husband found El Rancho Grande online and was almost right next to our hotel. He called and they told us to come on over. No wait!!! Sat right down and was greeted right away. Of course I ordered a Margarita which was very good. Definitely was not lacking any tequila. Chips and Salsa is always nice to munch on while you wait. I chose the Cheese enchiladas and my hubby chose the chicken fajitas. We were so hungry I didn't want to bother my friends with taking pictures of their food. Lol.. My enchiladas were good.. the sauce was a little salty but didn't stop me from eating almost all of it. Hubby said his fajitas had a good flavor to them and was given a nice portion. What I expect at a Mexican restaurant is good Mexican or Tex-Mex food. I did not find it here. I ordered Chillies Rellanos and got the second-worst that I ever experienced. They were soggy, hugely cheese laden with no evidence of chilis. Thankfully there was some decent hot-sauce on the table. I was hungry and managed to scarf down about 1/2 my order. After that, it wasn't worth the effort. I can't drink beer so I ordered wine. The only wines available were sweet and white. So yeah, not much to say about this place...except for one thing. The tv. The. TV. Is. mounted. crooked. on. the. wall. Call me crazy...or ocd. But, this drove me crazy. There are two tvs behind the bar. The tv on the left is the crooked one. What makes it even more egregious, is that the right tv is perfect! Like...how did you get the right one right, but the left one so wrong?? How has no one noticed and corrected this?? I tried to ignore it...but I couldnt. For 30 years we have been eating at and recommending El Rancho Grande in Fairborn. We ate dinner there about 5 o'clock and our dinner was lousy. When the hostess sat us down there were about 6 tables being used in the 3000 sq ft dining room, then she sets people down on both sides of our booth, so we have to listen to them during the whole dinner. And the music is blaring hard core country music like we're in Texas. Later they changed it to Taylor Swift for 3 or 4 songs. That's not what I expect when I go to a Mexican restaurant, who is choosing the music? The hostesses or the waitresses? I usually enjoy the chips and salsa, but the chips were barely cooked, and the salsa tasted exactly like a watered-down Ragu spaghetti sauce with an herb thrown in. I always order the same thing, two enchiladas with beans and rice and I've always eaten all of it. Not today. I didn't even eat a whole enchilada. When we paid our $36 bill there was the manager wrapping up silverware and joking with the hostesses. I went straight to Burger King and got a Whopper. I was hungry. I really don't remember when I have had such a bad time. I messaged El Rancho Grande, but they only responded with 5 stupid emails asking me to recommend them. But I can't email them back. Hardly anyone there and the speed of food coming out was terrible. Salsa and chips great! But we fed on too much waiting and waiting and waiting. Their Karma of free food. El Toro salad had great steak, chicken and shrimp but they forgot that iceberg lettuce is freakin cheap and I recommend not to use the same shredded stuff but more salad friendly cuts. That would have made my skimpy $12 salad look worthy. Chicken fajitas were a bit skimpy but cooked great. Most places bigger but over cook the onions and peppers. Side toppings a bit smaller too. Daughter with soccer jersey and we pushed for her meal to come sooner and all this delay should be headed by better mgmt and not relied on sweet beautiful waitress. This chain has been around for 20-plus years and little has changed except the prices. With a Mexican restaurant on nearly every corner, there is little to differentiate them and it's often the little things that make a difference. The chips here are always warm and the salsa is thick and tastes of fresh cilantro. It is so good. I could literally eat it with a spoon right from the bowl. I usually order the Cheese Steak Burrito. The steak is well seasoned and tender and I love the cheese sauce they use that smothers the burrito. It's a big burrito and fills you up. I've tried many of the other Mexican restaurants in town but I keep coming back to El Rancho Grande. read more

I was surprised this place didn't get better ratings from people. I was staying nearby and was craving Mexican on my last night in town. El Rancho Grande didn't have spectacular ratings, but I decided to check it out anyway. Upon walking in I was greeted by a friendly hostess. Because I was flying solo I decided to sit at the bar. The bartender couldn't have been nicer. He immediately got me a menu and drink and also offered some suggestions from the menu. I don't recall the name of what I got, but it came in a hot stone serving bowl and was delicious. I was disappointed in myself as I was stuffed and couldn't finish all of it. Despite the sad reviews...we decided to try this place anyway. I'm sooo glad we did, because it was really good. We both had the top shelf margarita and it was delicious. I don't like margaritas that are strong with the taste of tequila which makes no sense, but true. Lol The Grand Marnier in the top shelf margarita cuts the tequila flavor and makes it tolerable. The food comes quickly and very hot. We both had the Fajitas Texanas which is a chicken, shrimp and steak combo. It is very flavorful and the shrimp were tender, not dried out. I didn't give them a 5 star, because we were here 3 times and the 2nd time we were there the service was extremely slow. I like this place. The food isn't world class or anything, but it's a notch above the chains that are everywhere (Don Pablo's etc) AND it is locally owned and operated, which is important. Salsa has a decent flavor, but I wanted it hotter...like most Mexican places they were happy to fix this with a hotter variety. You just have to ask. If forced to go the the mall at Fairfield Commons I'd much rather eat here on the way than any of the corporate glop near the mall. read more
