A buddy of mine first introduced me to Electric Bike Central after raving about his epic (literally, a Specialized Epic MTB) buying experience. So naturally, when I was on the hunt for my Turbo Levo SL Pro, I rolled into the shop and met Matt. Now, fate can be cruel--Specialized was already sold out of my dream size and color. So, I begrudgingly bought from B***k Mtn Bicycles instead. And let's just say... their customer service had less energy than a dead e-bike battery. But hey, I still loved my Turbo Levo SL! I love ripping my e-bike all over. Matt and his technician (Tommy) help keep me biking. Matt helped me order a Specialized helmet and even helped with sizing issues. I needed a new handlebar, grips, and rear brakes; Tommy was able to throw it all on there masterfully and quick. I wanted to install a second battery on my Gazelle Ultimate C380+. I emailed a few bike shops to verify the costs. I got a few vague replies, then one from Matt that had the costs broken down very precisely. That made my choice pretty easy, and after I put down a deposit he ordered the parts and let me know when they arrived. I brought my bike in the next morning and they had it installed and ready for pickup by the end of that very same day! The entire experience was awesome. I've been researching electric bikes since February. I've been to a few bike shops for a closer look, but once I took a test ride, I was hooked! After reading countless articles and watching countless videos I finally had the confidence to make a decision. I've literally ridden my bike past Electric Bicycle Central (EBC) several times but when I finally decided to go in, they had just temporarily closed their shop when the essential business order first went into effect. With phase two of the restrictions being lifted, I took a drive by the shop and though they appear closed, they are open by appointment. I called and Matt answered, patiently addressing my many questions in detail. When I mentioned I was talking to him in front of their store, I had an instant appointment and he invited me in. Matt is very personable, knowledgeable and patient as I discussed my research and drilled for more info. Though you might be able to find equivalent bikes a few dollars less online, EBC is a local shop that I can physically go to see, feel, test ride, pick up and most importantly go for service if needed. In case you're not aware, bikes and especially electric bikes are selling like hotcakes during the COVID crises. Every well reviewed online electric bike website I've researched requires a preorder for delivery in a month if your lucky. Matt confirmed my desire for a folding electric bike and I chose their Magnum Premium High Step. The adjustability to fit many sized riders, its portability along with it's relatively light weight and performance made it perfect. I got lucky and an order of this bike is coming in next week! Electric Bike Central is a beautiful, immaculate, contemporary bike shop that's been around for 10-years. The caliber of their store characterizes the staff and the quality of their inventory. It's clear that Matt is experienced, passionate, customer service oriented and an all around nice guy. I briefly met one of their bike technicians and he reflects the same integrity. In summary, if you're looking for an electric bike, make sure to contact Electric Bike Central before making a purchase. One of my big regrets is purchasing my ebike online rather than from Electric bike Central. Electric bikes are highly technical and complicated motorized vehicles, and they have their glitches and problems. When your vendor is 1000 miles away, you quickly realize that the manufacturer really can't help you and you've got no local dealer to stand behind the product. In steps Matt at Electric Bike Central. Even though he no longer sells my brand of Ebike, he was more than willing to lend his expertise to help with a controller and display problem. He worked with the manufacturer to figure out the problem and communicated well and kept me updated with calls and emails throughout the process. They tested the battery and determined the bike was fine but I needed a new BMS for the battery. They couldn't fix because they don't have my battery parts. My wife and I had been shopping around the different electric bikes that are available to purchase here in San Diego and had been doing some research online also. There are so many manufacturers of electric bikes these days which can make it a bit hard when your new to the e-bike world. It had come down to two, the Magnum Cruiser and the Pedego Cruiser. We first came to Electric Bike Central and was greeted by Matt.. super nice guy. Showed my wife and I the bikes we had researched which were the cruisers, Matt gave us a helmet and a couple of bikes and took them for a test drive. Right off the bat I really wasn't knowing what to expect but they rode very comfortable, looked good, they have a cool digital readout which consist of a battery meter reading, speedometer, trip counter, I am probably some others that I didn't get a chance to play with.... did I say that they Road very comfortable! Anyhow, Took the bikes back to Matt he was great at answering all the questions we had and concerns that my wife had as far as the different types of seats available and such. Matt was very accommodating which made everything much better and he wasn't being pushy type salesman at all. Fast forward to Pedago in downtown San Diego.. we were greeted by the owner which by contrast to Matt was very pushy right off the bat.. so we also took some bikes out to try....they did not ride as comfortable nor look as nice... they just didn't seem right like something was off on them, they were supposed to be a comfort cruiser bike but my arms seem to not be as comfortable riding them as the magnum bikes were, nor was the seat. They were also twice as expensive!!! We had told the owner at Pedego that we were shopping around trying out e-bikes. He asked us what other brand we had tried and we had told them we had gone to try out the magnum cruisers. I am a business owner myself and I never talk down or bad about other manufacturers as this gentleman did about the magnum bikes. So right away that was a turn off for us... I get it he was just trying to sell us some bikes but we had kind of already made our decision and it wasn't going to be the Pedego Brand. So look guys...I'm not one to write yelp reviews as you can see in my profile but my wife and I really got a great experience at Electric Bike Central with Matt. He has a pretty large selection of more expensive bikes, high-end and what have you if you need something like that....not that the brand that I chose wasn't. I rented a bicycle from their kiosk at the Hyatt Hotel on Market Street. I was able to make a reservation, and had a good choice of bicycles to use for the afternoon. The attendant was very knowledgeable and attentive, and got me on a bicycle worthy of my long frame. The bicycle was in great condition. He gave me a lock and had me take a picture of the combination, and the telephone number that I could call if I ran into any difficulties. They would come and get me! Now, that's service. Fortunately, they didn't have to get me and I had a great afternoon bicycling around the harbor, little Italy, and the Gas Lamp. I'd be interested in buying one of their used bicycles considering the great condition they are kept in. read more

We were lucky Ivan Stewart's Electric Bike Center was right across the street and around a block from where we were staying. I'm embarrassed to say I didn't realize I was talking to a legend, Ivan Stewart, as I read from a previous review. He was awesome though. I picked the only rainy weekend in San Diego to visit (bad weather follows me everywhere I go), but that didn't stop my best friend and I from making the best of the trip. Ivan made us a 2-for-1 deal since it was raining out. We were sold because both my friend and I are what we like to refer to as "thrifty" to put it nicely. We road beach cruisers all over Little Italy, Gas Lamp District, and Down Town San Diego. It was the perfect way to get over our hangovers before we headed back home to sunny San Francisco (yes the weather was nicer in SF than San Diego that weekend... just my luck) =). This place was perfect... price was right and more importantly the service was top-notch! read more

The first time I stopped by just to check it out and met the Living Legend Ivan (Iron Man) Stewart, Champion no Dominator of the Baja 500 and 1000 and talked to him for a few minutes. He's very humble and approachable and fun to talk to. Didn't need to buy something that time but. . . Had to get my old bike going the first time in months and needed to purchase a bicycle pump. ISEB Center was the first thing that popped into my mind went down there on a Sunday afternoon and meant Gary Ivan's son very nice man and personable and he showed me his new Swiss Electric bicycle very sweet. The bike rental shop is not difficult to find, though getting adequate parking during busy hours might be difficult. The shop owner is polite and helpful and did his best to accommodate my height challenged girlfriend. The other person on staff was a helpful guy who apparently spent the moments between rentals maintaining the bikes. The bikes are in pretty good condition and were easy to use, though I felt the shop could have used a larger selection. I did notice that the shop had electric bikes though, so that's an interesting alternative and might be something I try next time. I'll be back! read more

This past weekend I went into the shop, in hopes of trying out one of the electric bikes, specifically one of the e-Joes. Matt was there to answer all the questions my friend and I had and was very accommodating and patient. He took us to the parking garage next door and had us do a couple of loops around the parking lot to get a feel of the bike. He explained everything very thoroughly, demonstrated how it could be folded up, the different modes the bike would perform. Since it was my first time in a long time riding a bike at all, let alone an electric bike, I didn't walk out with one at the time, but will be back once I decide to make the dive (or rather, brave the San Diego roads).
