I own a 90s bike with narrow aluminum wheels. I ran over a rock and it bent my wheels a bit. I needed it to be trued out. Brought it into the shop and Jennifier took my bike. Very reasonable pricing and quick turn around. Got a call the following day from Jennifer that my bike was ready for pick up. They also found a broken spoke while truing the wheel. I asked how much for the repair and they said it was already covered and done. Fantastic!! Jennifer (owner) and Josh (mechanic) did a great job on my bike and turned it around very quickly. this morning i decided to fix the rear wheel of my Giant Cypress that i had bought at the swapmeet and had it gone thru in Hillcrest. it had a flat tire and a broken spoke seemed to be th culprit. since i live near trk and they had heklped me before, i called first to get an idea of cost. i was told $37 and up. not tvery excited i brought it in, wheel only. Nathan at the service explained to me the $37 was for the spoke itself, but the labor to install it and re-tension the wheel brought the total to $71. i explained that it wouldn't work for me and called "Ye Old Bicycle Shop" on University ave. in San Diego. Jennifer quoted me $1.50 for the spoke and $25 for the install plus the re-tensioning. i double checked to make sure that included all the labor necessary to fix it and she confirmed it. but she said tomorrow they were closing for ten days and i should rush it in if i wanted it done today! 1/2 hr. later i arrived, within 10 mins. it was done! i brought it home and installed to check how true the wheel came out...it was perfect! read more

I'm a big boy and have a big boy bike. After not taking out my big boy bike in over a year, I was in dire need of a tune up. Ye Olde Bicycle Shoppe is the closest to me, and I was wondering if they were good enough to take care of my bike. Unlike other places, their prices are dirt cheap AND have a fast turn-around time. I brought it in, and two days later it was ready. Had a full tune up for $70. I was a bit of an eager beaver, so I took it out the next week after it's first ride and added wayyyy too much air. So I had a flat, but they turned it around in a day when I brought it in! These folks are great. Would hope they continue to keep doing what they do. read more

This place is a gem. I've been coming here for over 10 years ever since I discovered them. Good bike shops are like dentists and car mechanics. It takes a while to find a good one, references are everything, and you take a leap of faith as the customer. Jennifer and her son run an honest and down-to-earth operation. I have never bought a bike from them, but I am pretty sure they offer some of the best rates in town on service and shop time. This is based off my experience consulting different shops in the city. This place won't charge you more just because you have a higher-end bike/parts. For some background, I have been a DIY mechanic and rider of over 15 years. Every once in a while I need to go into a local bike shop (mainly for small parts, a special tool, or to have a second set of eyes on something). I'm fairly familiar with the bike landscape in San Diego. Having worked for the nation's largest retail bike chain before it went under, I know how hard it can be to operate a bike store and be successful. YOBS caters to the scrappy veteran biker and bike nut - all the way to the first time buyer. Because their business model is built around secondhand bikes, I believe this has helped their mechanics build a great knowledge base and expertise. (They have a small selection of new, but in my opinion, your dollar goes farther with their "certified pre-owned") An experience of honesty and integrity: I brought a wheelset in that I thought needed some service, but Josh turned me away! He would not take my wheel and charge me for something I didn't need. read more

I was referred to this establishment by a good friend who only had praise for this shop. So even though they were located in the opposite part of town, I did not hesitate to drop off 3 bikes that needed a tune up. I m in Clairemont, so it s a little hop over. Josh and his mom are the ones taking care of checking people's bikes in and out. Being from Guam, they showed the island spirit right away. They were very welcoming and they let me know that they were swamped with bikes. The wait at that time for the work to be completed would be about 3 weeks. I was a bit shocked but these are covid times... I m glad to know people are getting their bikes and getting some exercices. I don't know about you, but even though it s a bit of a long completion time, any business with such a backlog is only a very good sign that people are fully trusting in their work. So, I didn't hesitate. I got my receipts and left. A few weeks later, I called to check on the progress of the work. Josh told me that they have called me before but couldn't not reach me. I didn't answer thinking those were random solicitors. Anyhow, I picked up the bikes, the next day. I checked the works and it s outstanding. Their work ethics is awesome and they are very committed to their customers. So, people, .... this shop is a real Jem. They are very reasonable in their prices and outstanding in their work. Absolutely amazing service for a local family owned shop. Stopped by to get new tubes for an old bike we took to burning man, dropped it off and it was ready within 30 minutes. If you've been to the playa you know how that dust is corrosive and absolutely destroys everything in its path. Josh was so fast and friendly!
