It was such a pleasure working with Elegant Event Lighting for our wedding in December! Jay was really helpful and easily accessible during the planning phase. I was initially reluctant to pay the extra money for special lighting, but we are so happy that we did; it made all of the difference. We used patterned lighting of flowers in our ceremonial space at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, and it made the room look absolutely breathtaking. Also Jay suggested to me that we use chuppah lighting, and my photographer was greatly relieved about this. When she initially saw the space without the lighting, she was concerned how she was going to capture our faces. She made a point to tell me about how important it was that we had this lighting. We also rented three chandeliers for the dance floor (also suggested by Jay), and it gave the room such an elegant appeal. I also was really impressed by EEL's set up team. I didn't realize how many people were required to set up these lights. They were running around busily and efficiently for hours. Our wedding coordinator said, "We've got the A team working here!" After seeing so many great reviews on wedding wire and the knot for EEL I went to yelp and realized that they didn't have a yelp page that was easy to find. Being an elite yelper I was shocked, this is my go to place for reviews and Elegant event lighting needs to be here! So, on to my review.... I have chosen EEL to do the lighting and design for my wedding and although I still have quite some time before the date they have made the planning/design/deposit process, seamless. I worked with Jay on my vision and he was awesome, he did a few revisions for me to make sure that my vision as well as budget were completely satisfied. Jay and Valerie were, and are, absolutely unbelievable. I was a needy client that had custom perforated aluminum panels made (representations of my family business). EEL, without any hesitation, were more than willing to incorporate them into the ceremony backdrop that I had envisioned. They even went so far as to take pictures of the mounted panels in their warehouse, to give me an idea of what they would look like for my ceremony! (AND modified the look as well!) I worked with Jay at Elegant Event Lighting and I was blown away with the end result. I reached out to get information on lighting and pipe and draping decor for my wedding. Jay responded promptly with lots of helpful information. We used EEL for the draping of our wedding on 4/9/16 and we were very pleased with the results. They were super easy to work with and always prompt with responses and knew what they were doing. Jay followed up through out the wedding planning process and made sure everything was still on track and if we needed anything else. The only minor hiccup was the final portion of our payment was due and we had sent a check in but when the check didn't arrive to EEL by the Wednesday before our wedding, they got a little pushy making sure they were paid immediately. I understand they needed payment before the wedding but with a lot going on, I felt they could have been a bit more understanding. We ended up paying with Credit Card (which you have to pay a fee for) the Friday before the wedding. EEL created a gorgeous back drop for my wedding ceremony and reception at the Park Hyatt Chicago. The event space was very plain and had a conference room feel but EEL dressed it up with full pipe and draping, a beautiful chandelier and aisle runner. I couldn't have been happier with their work. They also handled the up-lighting and patterned dance floor lighting for the reception. They did a great job! We received compliments all night. First, Jay was easy to set a meeting with and did something NO OTHER wedding vendor did throughout our entire planning process. We were able to sign a contract with him that day. Elegant Event Lighting was so great to work with! Everything from the draping to the arch to the chandeliers I was completely taken back. I had an idea of what it would all look like once it came together and it looked even better than I could imagine. It was breathtaking! I made a couple last minute changes to our arch and they were happy to work with me on the modifications. It was the most beautiful arch and draping I have ever seen! It was so soft and romantic and you could just see the amount of effort and attention to detail that was put into creating our image. Although it was extra money I didn't budget for I am SO happy we used EEL on our wedding day! We had a fabric arch done for our ceremony and paper lanterns hung above our dance floor that really made our wedding day PERFECT. I wish we could have done more with EEL but it was expensive in my opinion, worth every penny we did spend though. The lighting was fine but like the other review, we also had issues with their billing /back office which caused unnecessary stress and aggravation. No one needs to be hounded for an incorrect upcharge in the moments leading up to an event. Jay had his assistant call out of the blue asking how we were going to take care of a SMALL balance due when we had NO balance due and then tried to charge a couple of hundred dollars more in labor when the florist asked them to be done 30 minutes earlier (are you kidding me?) In fact, we should have received a CREDIT for a smaller dance floor but they never offered that just finally sent a paid in full email to me......When a client is planning a wedding at the tail end the LAST thing anyone needs is to be hounded unnecessarily. This is the ONLY wedding vendor that charged a service charge for credit card use. read more

Everything turned out amazing with this vendor!! I was so so happy with the end result, and the draping and lighting truly turned out exactly how I envisioned it. I felt that the planning process was great. I was very apprehensive on what exactly to do. At one point, I went to EEL without an appointment because I was so unsure on what I wanted to do in regards to the services. Jay was very patient with me, and he explained each item over again - giving me his honest thought on everything I was wanting. We had the most wonderful day and I cannot begin to thank you enough for making my vision come to life. To be honest, the decor looked even better than my ultimate vision - thanks to you and your team! When we all saw inside the tent for the first time it was hard to believe we were in a tent it felt more like a ballroom. Nobody had ever seen that many chandeliers or the floral print lighting on a tent which was stunning. I absolutely loved the huge custom monogrammed dance floor and I asked our wedding planner to wipe off some of the smudges from my friends dancing like fools. I didn't want anyone to ruin it. I never thought the vendor we chose for our lighting and draping would turn out to be one of our favorite vendors but I was so wrong! My husband and I got married in November at Loft on Lake in Chicago and were blown away on how beautiful they made the venue. From the second we met with Jay we knew we wanted to work with EEL - he listened to all of our ideas, gave us suggestions, and showed us all of the different lighting and fabric options in the showroom in back. After we signed a contract with them, my husband and I were amazed at how quick they were to respond to emails, to send us updated invoices, and to help us with any concerns we might have. After meeting with so many wedding vendors while planning a wedding, in can be so frustrating to have people who just don't respond to emails or phone calls, but with EEL we never waited more than 24 hours for a response. For our final walk-through at our venue, they sent someone from Elegant Events to meet us there so we could go over any final details in person. The day of our wedding, my mother-in-law and grandma were at our venue early and were able to watch them set up our fabric backdrop and all of the lighting. They couldn't believe the transformation! I wish more of our guests had the chance to see the "before" version of our venue because EEL was able to turn a blank loft space into such a beautiful and elegant venue. We could not be happier that we chose to work with EEL on our big day and will continue to recommend them to everyone we know! read more

EEL was wonderful to work with. Staff openly communicated with me when I had questions and were extremely professional. I appreciated the reassurance that was provided and trusted them completely. The end result was spectacular! We decided to add Cafe Globe Lights to our venue to brighten it up a bit and we were not disappointed! I ended up hiring another company but would have liked to worked with the elegant lighting team. Seems they may have since closed. We used Elegant Event Lighting for our April 2015 wedding at the Waldorf Astoria in Chicago. We found Jay and his very experienced team by referral through our wedding planner, Misha, at Liven It Up Events. We were absolutely impressed and thankful for Jay! A few months before our wedding, we realized that our ceremony room would look very bare, and, what is worse, there was a protruding part of the wall in the back of our room where we were planning on standing with our officiant. We realized all this on a walk through with our wedding planner and thought it would be a great idea to add a canopy. Jay was referred to us and we could not have been happier with his services. He was professional, diligent, and always responsive about our ideas. Before everything was finalized, there was a lot of back and forth - should we include lights? Should we include draping in the back? Jay answered all our questions with patience and a lot of knowledge. Jay's team constructed the canopy perfectly - they were fast, neat, and were able to help to remove the canopy when it was time to turn the ceremony room into the reception. In the end, I cannot imagine not having the canopy there. It added a special feeling to our ceremony that would never have been there. The lighting added to the room a romantic glow that we will never forget as I walked down the isle.
