This is truly my favorite seamstress shop ever. Maria and her team are AMAZING! I brought my wedding dress in and it was probably 2-4 sizes too big. She essentially cut the dress in half and remade a whole new dress. She added thicker straps, hemmed the bottom beautifully, removed a layer of unnecessary fabric, added breast pads, and gave me a beautiful shape by fixing the whole top half. I came to Maria a few months ago with my mother's wedding dress from 1990. It was preserved in a box and Maria was confident she could restore it for me to wear on my wedding day. Over the next few months Maria worked with me and made the dress fit me perfectly. Stopped in with the bride-to-be to pick up her wedding dress for her big day. The ladies running the front of the house were really sweet. Once the dress was handed over, I helped the bride with the back zipper and it fit her body perfectly. These guys did a great job. Evidently, they are a popular choice in the Dracut area for alterations on attire for big occasions. Love how local small businesses can help so many people with their talent and skill sets. If I could give this 0 stars I would. I brought my bright neon orange Sherri hill prom dress in. I purchased it at "The ultimate"! You can additionally pay for a dress bag. I was deciding between the orange or a purple dress. I chose the purple bag because I didn't end up getting the purple dress! So I come in, super quick and simple. I come a week later to pick up my dress. 1st off, my purple dress bag is gone.. and I was told they gave it AWAY to another customer. With her prom dress. "We might be able to get it back" no you WILL call the customer and get it back. So I'm stuck with the cheap plastic wrapping. Whatever. I try the dress on. And it's WAYY TOO SHORT. I am obviously becoming physically upset and it doesn't phase either woman working. So tell me how you misplace a bright orange dress, and the purple bag it came in. I need to buy brand new shoes now that match the exact length she cut it... nearly impossible. And still made me pay FULL PRICE. I want a refund. I need to buy brand new shoes. And it would've been nice to get an apology. Instead I got dirty looks and attitude. I forgot to update my review! Never got the bag back; and when I went into the store the woman at the desk *pictured below* was giving me MAJOR attitude and yelling at me as shown! And brought up my yelp & google review. All I was doing was informing my experience to others. My junior prom I had absolutely no problems! And she had the audacity to say I "had a problem last year" If I did why would I return it's a joke honestly and it's sad cause it's not even the owner ! If you wanna promote your business you don't have cruel mean people that HANGS up on Mother's which she indeed did to mine! I did end up going back to the ultimate that very day crying obviously. That WOMAN brought me to tears and was screaming at me so I left and was scared to write a review. I never got an apology! Finding a seamstress was one of the most stressful parts of planning my wedding - there simply aren't as many reviews for tailors as there were for all the other vendors, and I was terrified of picking the wrong person for something as important as my wedding dress. For anyone in the same situation, your search can end here. Scheduling and moving appointments is easy. Maria gives you her opinion, but also listens to what you want and comes up with solutions to deliver it. I really wanted my dress to "hug" me and accentuate all my curves and she absolutely delivered -when I picked up my dress, it was perfect...and that is when she truly went above and beyond. A couple months after picking up my dress -and only 2 weeks before my wedding day-I tried it on again and realized, to my horror, that all the Insanity workouts had worked out and the dress was now too big! I had lost too much weight and, though the dress was still gorgeous, it was just not fitting like a glove as it had when I had my fittings. And this dress was designed to fit like a glove. I called Maria in a panic on Labor Day, not expecting a response, because she was closed. She called me back within an hour and said she would come in that day and that she could see me within the hour. She said that she was supposed to have the day off, but because she had customers calling her, she had to come in to be there for them. I went in and she repinned me (taking it in all the way down on both sides) and confirmed that she would be able to have it done in time for when I left - in 9 days! Incredible, because I know it was a busy, busy time - afterall, she had had to come in on a holiday she was getting so many calls from customers. I went in the day before I left for my wedding and I was so relieved to slip into my dress and have that feeling of "this fits like a glove." It was imperative to me that I didn't look like my dress was wearing me and Maria made sure that wasn't the case. It was a dream come true on my wedding day when all the compliments were "that dress looks like it was made for you." I got the dress taken in (twice), hemmed, cups put in, and a bustle put in and the pricing was very fair. My bridal party and I had nothing but trouble here. Maria kept claiming it was all of our dresses that were the problem, yet three other girls in our Bridal party had no problems. My two bridesmaids who had their dresses altered both paid $160 for their alterations. One girl's dress was hemmed unevenly and the other never even got a hem on her dress even though she paid for it! Both girls had problems with the top of the dresses where the bust was too big to start out and when the top was fixed, it made the back of the dress too tight for both girls. They both had to go for two appointments total. Additionally, one of my bridesmaids had her husband bring his suit there for an alteration of the pant length and his pants were hemmed incorrectly. I don't know how you can stay in business if you can't hem a simple pair of men's pants. He had to bring them somewhere else to be fixed and they were appalled by her work. For my bridal gown, I had a train that was different and required more work than normal. Maria complained every time I went in about how much work it was to do. I had the same problem as my bridesmaids where my bust was too big on my dress and when Maria made the top fit my back was all scrunched together and made it look horrible! Maria thought it looked great and wanted to send me on my way like that! I had her fix it in the end and my dress fit much better but that was after 5 total dress appointments and over $600. I am very disappointed and will not ever recommend anyone to go here for their alterations. read more

I buy all of my Indian garments with Shikha's Glory in Lowell. The designs, fabric and collection are too great but sometimes need adjustment. Indian clothing has heavy embroidery and intricate designs, for which someone professional is needed to make any alterations. Elegant tailor has done wonderful jobs with my gowns, kurties, lehengas, blouse, salwar kameez, or cholis. They truly understand where the fabric needs to be tight and where should it flow. They try not to take the easy way out if the sides have zippers. They work with you on getting the looks right. I would highly recommend them. read more

I had SUCH a wonderful experience here. I had been procrastinating on getting alterations for a bridesmaid dress for a wedding in two weeks and they had the dress done in a week! Price was incredibly reasonable and the work was perfect and very professional ! I highly recommend! I couldn't tell that it had been altered it looked so wonderful! I had to have a dress taken OUT (couldn't lose post partum weight as I hoped) and hemmed... fit wonderfully. Maria was very helpful the day I came in with my dress and just knew exactly what needed to be done!! They were really making an effort to accommodate ME and my schedule to arrange the pickup and final fitting. The staff there is very nice and friendly. My first experience with Maria was as a bride's maid a couple of years ago. She made me feel beautiful. I decided to begin coming to her more frequently as she seemed to know exactly how to make my clothes fit to my body, as I had lost a lot of weight, even when I wasn't sure what would be best for a specific garment. Also, being 4'11", it's not easy to get clothes that were the right length either. Both weight loss AND being short - not easy unless you're a tailor :-) No worries though. Any dress, pair of pants, straps, she would tend to every need. So, naturally, when I was introduced to my now fiancé, I knew who to trust to hem the dress I would wear when I met him in person - a golden, long satin dress. Andddd then he proposed! The most significant dress of my life - the long, white gown, was destined for her hands. I truly mean that. She was honored to personalize the dress. She hemmed it, took it in, accentuated my hips, and even made the straps thinner for me (being shorter, thinner straps accentuate my petite body more than the previous thickened strips. Having an open back, making the straps shorter and thinner made the back straps flop open a bit. Not to worry. Part of the process. She handled it. Then, my petite frame was accentuated perfectly, hips, shoulders, back, perfect. Even the bustle was absolutely stunning and done with so much care - she sat with my sister on TWO occasions to make sure she knew exactly how to do it for my big day. With a couple more things to perfect, especially with my anticipated additional weight loss, I went home for her to work her magic. Except I didn't lose weight. I gained - wedding stress IS a thing (side note, CAKE IS NOT THE ANSWER!) I got there, and she tried to zip. It wouldn't even close!!! As you can imagine, I was devastated. What an absolute nightmare!!! I asked her if I should start looking for another dress. "No way! This dress is beautiful!!!" She couldn't believe I even thought of that. Once again, and for the final time, she worked her magic, having me slightly nervous as she cut the lace and inner fabric of the dress to hug my new body. I tried it on, and it zipped. I left that day, to return one last time. Today, I tried it on, and I felt like a queen. The dress embraced my curves with beauty. I'm ready to walk down the aisle!!! She is a miracle worker. The owner was very nice and seemed knowledgeable. They worked on my daughters prom dress for almost 2 weeks and as you can see in the picture, this was the final result I received. This is not acceptable and very careless work. The owner did tell me that I could bring it back if there was anything, which I thought was odd to say, but did tell her that her prom was a few days away, so I could not. I also had paid for the service when I dropped off the dress and the owner told me that I had not. (My mistake was not bringing in my receipt) I gave her my card and she charged me and told me that she always marks as paid if I had paid. I went into my online bank account and showed her the charge from when I dropped off the dress and she quickly cancelled the transaction and apologized. Mistakes can happen, I truly understand, I really wanted to like this place, but too expensive for the overall service I received. Now I have to find someone else to finish the job she started with the dress. Wish them the best of luck, but I would never go back or recommend. read more

I had went to another tailor to get my bridesmaid dress adjusted the week before the wedding but was told to return to the bridal shop to have it exchange because it was way too big and needed a lot to get it tailored! I panic since i know for a fact the bridal shop doesn't do exchange. I was stressed due to the fact that I had very limited tim. But luckily I decided to google another tailor shop to get a second opinion and came across Elegant tailor and glad I did! Maria save the day and was able to tailor my dress within a few days. Not too crazy about this place... spent $65 to have my bridesmaid dress altered. They added cups & removed a single vertical strap from the back of the dress, as well as pressed it. I was kind of miffed about the strap, because before I gave it to them, the strap was able to go straight up the middle, however it was too long and bent funny unless I was standing uncomfortably straight. They told me they could take an inch off so it would stay straight up. When I came back the next week to pick it up and try it on, for some reason they had sewed it on so it twisted... not promising. They had to undo that while I was there, and then sewed it back on, but it was off center, and they insisted there was no way of getting it back in the middle, even though that's how I left the dress there and that's what they promised me. I ended up just asking them to remove it because I didn't like it being off center. It also didn't help that I met with Maria the week before, so she saw how the dress looked originally, but she was not there to give me the dress when I came in to pick it up, so I couldn't insist that they were incorrect about it being impossible for the strap to be in the middle. I think I should've asked to have a partial refund for that but didn't feel like arguing, even though they did provide an itemized receipt of alterations and charged me for altering the strap as well as moving some hooks to accommodate that. I have a really bitter taste in my mouth from having spent so much for getting not much done to the dress. The other weird thing was that a week later when I came back to pick up the dress, I showed up a few minutes early for a Saturday appointment for 9 o'clock but the shop was completely closed, despite signs that said they open at 9am. I ended up calling one of the two phone numbers on the door and Maria told me she was at the shop (when she wasn't) and would be there in a second. Two other ladies pulled into the parking lot a few minutes later and opened the door for me about ten minutes after opening. They were pretty friendly, but due to how much I spent and the service I paid for I am not likely to come back. read more

Maria was very nice, and made me feel comfortable. She recommended me taking in the bust area of bridesmaid dress, and I am very glad I did. However, it was still falling off of me, despite the alteration. I originally went in for bridesmaid dress to be shortened. $135 later, I was tripping over my dress the entire night, even fell up the stairs. I wore same shoes to fitting, as I did the wedding. The other bridesmaids went elsewhere and paid 35$ total. I am very upset over this experience. Will not be returning. read more

I bought my wedding dress as a sample from an expensive boutique. Because it was a sample, it had a bit of wear from being tried on. I was nervous about it but it was no problem for Maria! She is the best. From first meeting to final fitting, she made sure that my dress was perfect. She secured lace, created a gorgeous and layered bustle, attached beads/jewels, hemmed, and even added in my missing bust (shhh don't tell) haha!
