After hearing the horror stories from other girlfirend's weddings, imagine my surprise when I learned that my bridal gown alterations were going to be under $100 and only take 3 weeks! In a culture where the word "wedding" automatically doubles or triples the price of everything, it was a welcome relief to find out that I was going to come in under budget on the gown alterations. ***NOTE: I realize that not all bridal gowns are the same, and not all kinds of alterations are priced equally, but I needed a hem job on 15 layers of material and the waist taken in on a very (VERY) fitted gown with a complicated bodice. But whatever. Just giving you a reference point.*** Nancy (it really is Nancy there when you walk in the door) is great. She fitted me, did a refit before any cuts were made, and made sure that the final alterations were as they were supposed to be, all the while being friendly and kind to me and my very special dress. The store isn't large, but there are a selection of formal, semiformal, and bridal gowns through which to browse. The best thing about Nancy was that she didn't put on any airs or make me feel unwelcome in any way, as some bridal boutique owners are apt to do. I live in Manchester, and needed a good place to hem new pants etc. I couldn't find what considered a good price for new cuffs on my pants, so I expanded my search to Nashua, as I'm there a lot anyway. Nancy had the best price, so I went to her shop. She is very friendly and professional. Not long afterwords, I noticed that an expensive topcoat I had purchased at Building 19(for a great price!) was missing a liner in one of the sleeves. Nancy had a silk fabric on hand that matched almost perfectly, and as it was the liner, I didn't really care. She did a super job and it looks like original work. She does terrific work, for reasonable prices, and I highly recommend her!!! read more

Although Nancy is very inexpensive she is hard to communicate with. I was disappointed when my dress was too tight after my first alteration. I am not a girl who has anymore weight to loose so this was really big let down. Taking it to a different local tailor to fix. The cash only thing is a real pain in the behind. Couple parking spots off street was helpful. But the area is NOT nice. I was a bit nervous carrying my expensive wedding gown in that area. Not to mention the one way street being ridiculous to navigate. I know the area and I drove in circles for 10 minutes. Overall: really unhappy with my experience. read more

Nancy is incredibly talented. I bought my dress at Vows Bridal Outlet in Watertown and the dress was very detailed and had a long train that needed to be altered. I took my dress to a seamstress in Boston who was going to charge me a ridiculous amount of money and even told me to get another dress because my dress was too "complicated" to alter, but thanks to Nancy's talent and patience, I was able to fit into my dream dress and it was perfect in our wedding day!! I went based on the Yelp! reviews and had a great experience with Nancy. I brought in pants with silk liners that needed to be brought in at the hips and waist, as well as a complicated dress that needed to be taken in at the bust and some pants that needed to be hemmed. I went to Nancy's after reading the other yelp reviews and I totally regret it. My mother had said "if you don't like the shop, don't leave your dress there" and I regret not just walking out. I brought my ball gown wedding dress in. The dressing rooms would be small for just a regular dress- I couldn't fit my dress and me in it- thank goodness there was no one else in the store! I needed a bustle and the top taken in. They told me when I bought the dress that I could get it fit snugger and it really just need a tack/dart/whatever its called to make it fit my chest and not a cookie cutter. It has a gap. Nancy recommended not wearing a bra. Because that is totally how you feel more covered? She was reasonably priced on the bustle at $16. On the other hand its a good thing I didn't have her do anything else because she is cash only- and was flustered when I paid with 2 $10 for $16 in work. read more

I needed to have a dress for a friend's wedding hemmed, and found Nancy's Bridal and Alterations right here on Yelp. Honestly, getting to the shop can be a pain, as it's on a 1-way street, and the parking is very tight. Nancy is friendly and straightforward as soon as you enter her store. She had me try on my dress for her and marked it for hemming and pinned the sleeves to change them up, too. $30 for each alteration, which seemed fair for the hem but honestly a bit high for the sleeves. Keep in mind that Nancy only accepts cash - I was $5 short at the time but she was very nice and let me pay the rest when I picked up the dress, which was ready in exactly 2 weeks and now fits great! I'm very pleased with her services, and you can tell she's a proud lady. She beamed when I told her she had great Yelp reviews, and asked me to write one (which I would have done anyway!) read more

I went to Nancy with my wedding dress after recommendations from various people - I have mixed thoughts. I think the overall if you need basics done Nancy can get the job done right and quick but anything beyond that you should go to someone else. The Good: Hem - I have a silk dress with a lace overlay and Nancy did a phenomonal job hemming my dress, matching the lace up with no sign that the dress had been touched Straps - My straps needed to be shortened on both the silk slip and lace overlay and she did a great job with this Bustle - Great job on bustle - I needed two, one on the slip and one on the overaly Speed - Nancy works very quickly and was always able to accomodate my schedule The Bad: Fit - my dress overall was too big and needed to be taken in. Nancy was extremely resistant to this at first and when I finally got her to do it it just went downhill from there. I am no seamstress but I had to recommend taking it, I had to recommed darting on the slip to get it to fit the way I wanted it to - I would think this would be something that a seamstress can identify and handle resolving on her own. After many fittings the dress still is too big in parts and the underslip is a mess. The darting she did down the front is not even - one dart comes to my hips and the other comes to mid-stomach. The slip also now comes out above the back of my dress. Overall, I am extremely disappointed as I now need to take my dress to someone else. read more

Wonderful, intuitive and fast. I brought in my wedding dress and I told her I wanted to take it in and hem the bottom. Each job was priced separately and it was reasonable, especially compared to other bridal stores charging a small fortune to alter. I came to get it a week later and it was beautiful. She made sure I was happy and I felt that it was very important to her to do a great job. She makes you feel as if you are her best customer. Highly recommend and I will come again! read more

After reading other YELP reviews, I brought my bridesmaid dress to Nancy. I can only hope that my review will help others, especially Brides to be. DO NOT bring your dress or gown to Nancy!!! I purchased my dress back in March of this year, with an idea that I would probably become pregnant at some point before my best friend's October wedding. We ordered the dress two sizes larger, which was fine. My dress has a lace up back, so I knew it wouldn't be a huge problem. When I brought my dress to Nancy, we established that the hem would need to be taken up. I told her I would be wearing flats. There was also still quite a bit of room on each side of the bust area that she would be taking in. I was surprised when she mentioned that my alterations would cost me $100.00, as many of these reviews expressed how reasonable she is. However, being pregnant, tired, and not thinking clearly, I agreed, paid her in full CASH only then, and left my dress in her hands. BIG MISTAKE. When I went to pick up my dress, the hem was still too long. A week away from the wedding, I decided that I could just bite the bullet and get heels. I didn't notice the larger problem though, which Nancy noticed, and let me walk out of the store with. She had taken too much in from my dress, and when I put the dress on, she didn't take the time to put me in it properly. Instead of lacing me up completely as a professional would do, she held up the dress in the back for me and said it looked good. Again, trusting her, I walked out of the store and didn't question anything. Thank god I went to my Mom's afterward to try it on again! My mom noticed immediately that where the panel was supposed to snap into the dress wouldn't snap, and that there was A WHOLE INCH of my skin exposed on either side of the panel!!! We came to the conclusion that anyone who would let me walk out of the store with a dress that did not fit charging me $100 for was a crook, and I did not trust my dress in her hands again. We took it to a new seamstress, who was completely baffled but told us it was not her first time fixing one of Nancy's mistakes. I even called Nancy that night, to which she had no apology, nothing to say, and was completely silent. I went into Nancy's store yesterday afternoon not to argue, but to question her calmly about how she could put me into a dress, knowing it did not fit my back, knowing I would not be able to wear it, knowing she had messed up, and wondering how on earth she could charge me so much money for doing so. She got defensive and was yelling at me in chinese, saying "no refund!". I did not expect my money back, I just wanted an answer. She is a horrible person, who is a crook, and I am only a bridesmaid. I hope to God that none of you Brides EVER take your gown and leave it to her to alter. read more

I went here based on my sister-in-law's recommendation, and wouldn't recommend her. I wasn't impressed at all. When I went to pick up my dress and my son's suits, there was a $30 charge for work she forgot to quote and I'm pretty sure I didn't ask to have done on the boys suits. I let it slide because she clearly did the work, even if I hadn't asked for it. My dress, which had to be taken in quite a bit, was now puckering. She told me to "pull it up" which if it were fitted properly, would have stayed up in the first place. It's a side zipper strapless dress with a chiffon single shoulder drape. The drape, which fitted perfectly before, was now tight and causing the puckering. Needless to say, it's 4 weeks before my brother's wedding and I have no chance of having this dress fit properly. She also forgot to reinstall the belt loops and mislaid the belt itself. Fortunately she found it which raises my rating by one star. I won't be going back here again, so alas, my search for a great seamstress is still ongoing. Even thought the alterations on my dress were cheap "$55", the fact that there is still so much wrong with it makes those alterations a waste of money. She did alter the boys suits well, although they were simple alterations of taking up the length of pants and sleeves and taking in the waist on one set of pants. Seeing as how I paid only $25 and $35 for the boys suits and the alterations on each suit were $50, not such a great deal. read more

I had purchased a short cocktail-type dress for a wedding I'm attending this coming weekend from Marshall's (black and white silk-type material with pockets). It wouldn't zip all the way at the time that I purchased it a couple of months ago, but I told myself I would just lose a couple of pounds and it would be fine. That of course didn't happen, and I loved the dress and didn't want to have to return it and find another one. So, I started searching online for people in the Nashua area who do dress alterations. I came across Nancy's Alterations and her reviews were pretty good, not to mention she was nearby as I live and work in Nashua, so I called her and explained my situation. She told me to bring the dress to her ASAP and she would look at it and see what she could do. I brought it to her the next day, she had me try it on and told me it would zip all the way but it was going to be very tight, and that she would be able to take it out a little bit on each side. Not only did she have it done in less than a week, but she only charged me $40 for it when she normally would charge $45. My only complaint would be the small fitting rooms (which really is not a big deal unless you are trying on a large wedding dress, which I was not!) Yes, it's on a one-way street and there isn't much parking, but both times I went there -- to drop off my dress and to pick it up -- nobody else was there, so it's not like I couldn't get a parking space. Thanks Nancy for doing what I didn't think could be done on such short notice and inexpensively! read more
