We took our dog Shug to our original vet's boarding and were highly disappointed. We took her to WTD, and have never looked back. First of all, they do a temperament assessment to make sure that they don't let in any vicious dogs. Second, this very well might be Shug's FAVORITE place to go. When we pull up, it takes all of our power to stop her from jumping the fence to go and play. And unlike other boarding experiences we have had, playing is what they do best. She is always completely wiped when she gets home and has a permanent smile on her face. Seriously. If your dog is not as social as ours, I am not sure how it would work. But they love the dogs so much, I'm sure they would figure something out to cater to your pet. But as opposed to utilizing the crate at every turn, they have play times 90% of the time for day care and times they aren't sleeping. Friendly faces and a love for our dog is all I need to keep coming back. If you are looking for a place to keep your dog during the day or for boarding, I couldn't recommend a place any more than here.

We had a bad experience elsewhere and were thrilled to find a place that excels in animal care, customer service, and over all professionalism. You know you're leaving your pets in the best of hands the moment you walk through the door. There's no better place! **Update: 6/28/2017 - I just wanted to add an update to my previous review. We have been using WTD multiple times a week for daycare, also boarding when needed, for over a year now. I still can not find a single thing to complain about. We have two dogs that can't wait to get inside to the see staff in the mornings. When we pick them up, they're adequately worn out. They never have a bad odor, they smell just as good as they did when we dropped them off. Neither of them have ever sustained an injury. It is truly a wonderful place. I have full faith in their assessments and grouping system of the dogs. Sometimes one of our dogs has a lazy/mellow day. When she's having one of those slow days, they accommodate and put her with a group more appropriate for her lack of energy. They don't asses once, they assess every single day. I'm so happy to have found such a wonderful second family and home for us and our dogs.

This was our first time boarding our new dog at Hueytown. We recently adopted him from the shelter, and he had been updated on all his vaccines the month prior. We have his up to date medical records and brought them with us to drop off. At drop off, my fiance emphasized that he was up to date on all shots and vaccines and we did not want anything additional. I had only heard good things about Hueytown, so I was surprised when we picked him up after traveling all day and the receptionist told me that they had given him all new vaccines and a rabies shot, despite our wishes not to and him having been recently vaccinated. Additionally, the receptionist did not believe me when I informed her that must be a mistake, and only acknowledged it after she looked up his medical records and saw I was correct. We had to wait to speak to another employee about the situation. A vet never came out to speak with us and we had to essentially play telephone via the employee. The employee not only never apologized for the mistake, but also gave us false information about the type of vaccine he had received. Thankfully my fiance and I are well informed on the vaccines our dog has had and corrected her. She changed her story again after our correction. They removed the vaccine fee from our total, but did not apologize for the mistake and did not offer any additional help. We are watching our dog closely to make sure he has no adverse reactions to an unnecessary additional round of vaccines. While we were out of town, I got a call from Hueytown informing me that our dog was doing great and information about his fecal. I was told it came back positive, and they had begun treatment. I was never asked beforehand if that was okay, but I gave them the go ahead to continue. There was never any mention of his vaccines until we came to pick him up and were given our cost total. We will not be coming back, and I caution all pet owners to be aware of a place that so easily commits medical malpractice and fails to have any checks in order to avoid a situation like this in the future.

The dogtors are all very knowledgeable and kind towards the dogs. They know a thing or two because they've seen a thing or two. They give realistic advice and explain dog health in plain language that I can understand. The staff in the front is always very kind, always picks up the phone, and handle checking in and out quickly. They always have kind things to say about Mr. Woody and recognize that they're taking care of somebody's baby! The groomers do a great job. I'd been to groomers before that had nicked an ear or something, but that's never happened with Tiffany at Standifer's. They take great care to trim out the paw pads, express the glands, clean out the ears. All the things that I don't cover in my makeshift home dog bath. Last time I was there, a woman was there picking up her cat named Biggie. Biggie came out in a laundry basket. Big, indeed. Convenient location, easy parking right out front! Standifer's is a great place to take our pawed friends. Woody got his summer cut, no comments about skipping leg day, please. He knows.

Originally, the service was recommended via a Facebook connection. We had never used a professional service and had no idea what wonderful experiences awaited our two cats and us. My first interaction with Karl was on the phone seeking information. After he told me all about the service he started talking about a cat he had sat with before. He showed such care and concern about one of their " customers " it was comforting to hear. Little did I know that now this is how we have experienced this pet sitting service. There are two sitters who have come, Cynthia and Lauren. Cynthia has been the lead sitter and Lauren has been backup most of the time. Both have always done everything needed for routine cat care that included keeping a water fountain filled exactly as we asked. They both have sent photos and texts every day. This last visit that concluded a week ago (Christmas 2025) Rose wasn't eating like she usually did. Cynthia communicated about various things she tried to stimulate her appetite. There was nothing physically wrong with Rose but we all agreed that she might still be grieving the death of her dear littermate Gracie. Gracie died a year ago and the two had never spent one day apart. When Gracie died we let Cynthia and Lauren know. Cynthia had known Gracie the best and the longest. She provided several reassuring messages not just after Gracie died but other sweet messages along the way (not associated with visits). While this is a professional service, the service is personal. In addition to the pet care, they take in the mail including porch drop-offs - boxes and oversized envelopes. Here that means walking around the house and down a steep driveway into the area where the cats stay. All of this to say, the Red Dog Pet Sitting Services has been excellent. We would recommend them to anyone who has this need for their pets. (By the way, Rose did resume her routine eating habits.)

Second, show up for appointment, and they will take you as expected. No more waitlist and wait 1-2 hours to be seen! Yay! The staff is super kind to your animal. She began being almost unresponsive after the two times I took her there in one day I ended up taking her to steel city that night she had a 104 fever and feline calicivirus and her mouth was covered in ulcers. They looked in her mouth three times in those appointments and somehow missed the fever and ulcers. Would not recommend if I hadn't taken my cat to the emergency vet we would not have been so lucky to save her life.
