Their rowing shells are extremely well taken care off, nothing like the kayak places with dead kayaks they rent for a premium or banged up surfskis. Everything worked, everything was spick and span. The facility is great, it is on the water, they offer parking, getting in and out of the water is easy. The instructor Ellen was amazing, probably the best instructor I have had for water sports and I have done my share of those. After 3 days I was paddling nicely around the bay. Their pricing is extremely fair. Totally worth your time if you want to learn how to scull.

Our friends(Lisa and Brian) invited us to join them on Great Expectations); a Sailing trip to watch The Blue Angels take flight over the Bay Area! Literally enjoyed the: blue skies, the company of sailing boats on the water, delicious hors d'oeuvres, and excellent company! Captain Brian-kept us moving along with comfort. We spent the day-Looking Up in the sky at the stunning planes especially --- the U.S. Navy Blue Angels! Loved the experience and welcoming vibe of this club. This beautiful Yacht club is located in Brickyard Cove. RYC 's location and facilities make it a premier venue for a great variety of yachting activities. The club's location offers almost immediate access to the Bay and is ideal for both racing and pleasure sailing in boats large and small. Everyone we met was over the top friendly and welcoming-but I also think Lisa and Brian know everyone. My boat was recently seriously damaged by, I presume, another boater but no one seems to know anything about it. Why are there no cameras? This was my…read moreHusbands first Half so instead of Running my usual pace of just over 90 minutes I paced him. ++ Possitives ++ + Tech T-Shirt, Cinch bag and Finishers medal for everyone. + Good amount of Aid stations stocked with Water, Gatorade, Oranges and Power Gels. + Great group of volunteers at 2.5mi and 10.5mi markers (same guys).They seemed quite entertained by my singing to my Husband and skipping as we passed them at mile 10.5. Glad I made their long wait out in the cold a little more interesting. + Easy packet pick up on the day (if you got there early!). We got there 20 minutes into the 1hr pickup time slot and the line was only about 20 people deep which then grew to 60+. I heard a lot of people complaining they would not get to the start line in time. Here's a tip - If you're doing a Half Marathon get there at least 60 minutes before the start. + Groupon deal for entry ($69 plus fees). I would have been pissed if I paid full price though. -- Negatives -- - Wasn't a full Half Marathon. Measured by both my Garmin and my Husbands Nike App. Had I been in my ''Serious Runner'' mode this would have pissed me off immensely. We did notice that Volunteers were moving markers during the event.. Hmm.. - Disorganized course. It wasn't completely clear where you were supposed to Run, we had Runners coming at us head on and sideways, Volunteers standing in the middle of the pathway and we were even running with the 10k people at one point. Big mess! - They also had us run through a Dog park which was really weird and awkward. It was packed with people and Dogs darting about all over the course, add into the factor that after being attacked by a large Dog I'm pretty scared of them. My Husband lightened this by stating ''WTF, we have to run through Dog shit? If I wanted to do a shit / mud run I would have signed up for one''. Lol. - Post Run food consisted of a small Costco sized tub of Red Vines, some Popcorn and a few left over dry Bagels by the time my Husband and I got there. Considering the event time was stated as 7am -12:30pm you would have thought they would have food stocked until then but no. (we finished in under 3hrs btw!) I am so glad the vendors were nice enough to give me some drinks before we started. - No water at the finishing line. What?! - $10 Parking fee we wasn't told about. Luckily I carry cash at all times. - The same medals for all distances. Come on now, I think if you're running 10 miles more than someone else it's only fair you get a different medal. A half Marathon is a big deal ya'know... As this was this events first year I understand some things won't go completely to plan but the events director isn't completely inexperienced in planning these events, it's important to be prepared for things to go a little screwy. I got an email with a long list of all of the ''hicups'' they encountered including not having enough T-Shirts for all of the Runners. For real? The intent is to make this an annual event which at this point in time I don't know if I will do it again.

The best thing about this race is the views, you can see Oakland and SF so clearly on a nice day. The race does start early, 7 for the Half Marathoners, 7:30 for the 5K and 10k runners, which is good to beat the heat, all in all, a good race!!!

How lucky we are to have such a beautiful and windy place to go sailing…read more We just finished our 6 hour sailing voyage past Angel Island, through Sausalito, under the Golden Gate Bridge, then over to AT&T Park on a game day and past Alcatraz on our way back to Berkeley. I had been looking forward to this sailing trip for a while and must admit it completely exceeded my expectations. We (3 families, 6 kids and 6 parents) all had a fabulous day ! The kids loved the experience sitting on the bow, keeling over steeply and seeing dozens of porpoises by the GG Bridge, seals, pelicans and other birds diving for food. Thanks to Paul and the wonderful volunteer crew we all felt safe and secure in this new environment as we explored the bay in the wonderfully steady Pegasus. The crew taught us the basics and provided all the gear to be safe and happy. I would love to go again and again, and must plan to do so. Until then, perhaps some sailing lessons might further our knowledge. Go! Its happy sailing.

You should check out EBRC if you want to try rowing, but be prepared to really, really like it. Like, welcome-to-your-new-lifestyle-you-only-THOUGHT-you-knew-what-your-anaerobic-threshold-was like it. I wasn't a stranger to the club--my partner joined in 2012, so I'd been to regattas and I knew about erging. And a friend's sister is a coxswain, so I knew a little about that. I'd just never picked up an oar. My dad had a rowing machine in the '80s, but that's as close as I ever got to crew. (Pity, as I'm a native New Englander.) Seven months later, that first bay down at JLAC is my home away from home, my medals have joined my partners on the wall, and regatta = date night. I learned more about myself in my first three months of rowing than I figured out in the first decade of so-called adulthood and came out happier, and fitter, on the other side...with a few dozen new friends and some seriously poetic experiences on the water.
