Great trip with a very friendly crew - safety and comfort conscious…read more We were on the racing yacht, sailing with only the jib (front sail) - while it cruised along pretty well (and smoothly) in good wind with just the one sail, I'd have liked to use the main sail and seen what she could do, but we had a few members who were beginners and worried about getting seasick. So I understand the captain for playing it on the safe side. Not cheap for 3 hours, but then sailing isn't a cheap pastime. Everyone had a very nice time, even the beginners (who didn't get seasick).

Our captain, Rowan, was personable and pleasant, and gave us space to say goodbye as we needed. I know Captain Kirk's couldn't control the weather, but if they did, it couldn't have been a better day. Beautiful sunshine, the water was sparkling, and our loved one had the send-off he wanted. Many thanks to everyone at Captain Kirk's for a pretty much perfect experience. We highly recommend them for anyone looking for a comfortable and sensitive voyage when scattering a loved one's ashes in the Bay.

It was my first time on a sailboat, and the views were absolutely gorgeous. It was worth the price. Thanks to the great crew for a memorable night--our birthday celebration was truly special.

Previously, we took the Freda B on the Wildlife Morning Sail in 2024, which was also fantastic. What makes the Freda B special is the crew. The vessel itself is gorgeous--even the "head" is great! From the moment you board and are greeted by the crew, you know you're in good hands. The safety instructions are thorough, and the crew immediately puts you at ease before setting off. Whether you have a clear night or a little fog (like tonight), the skies are beautiful, the Golden Gate Bridge is magical, and San Francisco twinkles in the distance. The crew meets your every need with kindness, excellent service, and genuine interest in you as a passenger. They're also an interesting bunch--just ask them about themselves! Hot (chocolate!) and cold beverages are available for purchase, including adult beverages. For out of towners...Wear and bring layers. Jacket + sweater/fleece, long pants, beanie hat, gloves if you have them. Blankets available onboard. This is SF Bay 12 months a year - always chilly and the sail is worth every layer of clothing. We celebrated my birthday tonight, and it was perfect. Thank you!

They'll talk to you about the whole process and even let you steer the ship while the sails are up! Plenty of drink options. Basic snack options. Be sure you're bundled up!!!! They have blankets on board but don't underestimate that ocean breeze when you're on open water. Each time they have done a different route so it continues to be new eating h time I go. Captain and crew were all friendly and welcoming and the naturalist was informative and excited to share her vast knowledge and experience. The crew intentionally included young people on board with raising the sails and such. Fun for them, and honestly fun for us to watch them learn through hands on experience. They serve up lots of beverage options during the trip, both with and sans alcohol. We went in early September and the weather was absolutely perfect. A bit chilly at first, which is to be expected, although we were able to shed a layer about halfway through. In addition to the overall gorgeousness of the Bay, we also saw lots of wildlife, mostly birds and harbour porpoises. The docking location is perfect, with nearby public parking, and lots of restaurant options if you plan to grab a bite to eat before or after your excursion. This is definitely a fun experience for both locals and visitors and something we will happily book again.

A first-class sailing experience with Captain Doug…read more We booked Taihoa for a group of four and couldn't recommend it more highly. From the first email months out, Captain Doug was a fantastic communicator. Our original plan (a friend's 40th) changed, and he graciously converted our booking into a certificate without any hassle -- that flexibility set the tone for the whole experience. Taihoa herself is something special. Doug took real time before we cast off to walk us through her history and design -- a hand-built 1940s wooden classic -- and it gave the whole day a depth you don't get on a standard charter. Once we were underway, he even let us help sail her out of the harbor and into the bay, which was genuinely the highlight for us. We had a beautiful day of sun and wind, plenty of room for four, and at no point did we feel anything but safe and well looked after. If you love sailing -- or just want a memorable day on the water -- book with Doug. (And bring sunscreen!)
