It's shaded and generally well traveled. We didn't realize until we got to the Orinda Connector Staging Area location that it was permit only, however it was simple to find the permit online and easily purchase a $3 day pass while standing in front of the sign, which is located at 520 San Pablo Dam Road, and the sign-in sheet is down and around the corner from the gate. If you start at the same staging area, the first 5 minutes of the hike is a rocky trip down, but in my opinion is a much easier hike back up, which I didn't expect, and is generally otherwise low impact (although dusty). Our visit really convinced us to try out other trails in the area and we were surprised at how much we enjoyed the area and the view.

My friends and I decided to come here and rent two rowboats for a nice day out on the lake. There is a deposit for each boat and we paid the non resident fee to boat. We grabbed our life jackets and we were off! We enjoyed sights all over the lake... the bird sanctuary was super cool and you can see the birds take off. We broke our paddle on the rowboat by rowing a little too hard, but the staff was so nice and gave us a new paddle. We all had so much fun learning to row and being in the water. One of the best views of the entire bay is had from this vantage point out on the edge of the marina. A great place to watch the storms roll in. Paris Williams is a true professional and truly enjoys what he does. I was looking at the pictures and in every single one Paris has a huge smile on his face. The expressions on my face.... well there were a lot of smiles but a few moments of concern. We launched south of Fort Funston and landed at Ocean Beach for 30 minutes of the most incredible gliding! It was cold, a little foggy but I didn't care. Everyone must do this! Paris films or videos the entire experience which is included with the price. So much fun! I only wish it would have never ended.
