I've been waiting for a place like this for a long time. I've missed northwestern Mexican cuisine since I stopped working in the west seven years ago. Elena's carne asada is awesome - the burrito is tops. Their flour tortillas are not the gross Mission tortillas that most Mexican places in Memphis use, so their burritos and quesadillas are great. Their sauces are perfect. The hot red sauce makes you crave for more, even though you're burning up. Sometimes you have to make sure the drive through hears you correctly - queso sounds an awful lot like quesadilla I guess. But overall I haven't had a bad meal there and I eat their food about twice a week. read more

Let me just start off by saying Elena's is extremely underrated. The food was good, staff was friendly, and food came out quickly. Everytime I pass by Elena's there is never anyone in there but there is dine in and to go available and they have a drive thru. The chips are homemade and delicious. It's getting harder and harder to eat out. Many businesses are being mostly serviced by our youth and unfortunately charging more for less and less. We had a good meal at Elena's, nothing made us feel uneasy and the food was hot with good flavor overall. Price was good for quantity and quality. It's better than most for what I consider straight-forward simple fare. It shouldn't be this hard to find a decent meal but at times it really can be frustrating. A great place for California style burritos here in Memphis. I had been to the other location and enjoyed my meal, I saw there was a location two miles from my hotel, so I headed over. I had the carne asada California burrito, which included fries within the burrito. I must say the burrito was huge and the flavor was outstanding. They have a little salsa bar with varying degrees of heat. My favorite is the green sauce, but be warned that it has a kick to it. The staff was friendly and the food arrived rather quickly, two admirable traits. This has become a place that I look forward to when I am in Memphis on business. They offer honest food, beyond fast food, but still a humble meal that is served fast and fills you up. If you are in the Memphis area, seek them out. It will have you coming back. read more

We love to go here to grab a few tacos when we're in the area. All the Tacos on the menu are great to have, but the basic street tacos are my personal favorite. The fish tacos and shrimp tacos are both winners in their own rights. And finally, the Elena's taco is nice. As you can tell, we like their tacos. Can't say anything about the burritos or the rest of the menu because we've been fully satisfied by feeding our hunger with the basics. I placed an order for a burrito with fish, after waiting 15 min for my order I received it and drove home getting stuck in traffic for 45 min, I get home only to find out my order was wrong. When I reached back out to the restaurant to talk about missed up order the say it's nothing they can do about. The sad part is I work close to the restaurant and I suggest the restaurant alot to tourists and people looking for good for, but here lately I have not been getting good feedback. So I will no longer be spending any money with them and will not suggest the restaurant again. Came here as a third wheel, ordered 2 tacos for lunch. One shrimp and one fish fried taco. The shrimp was really good probably the best taco I had in a while. I'll skip the fried fish next time. The guacamole was okay, kind of bland but this place gives you that San Francisco feel and price. My favorite hot sauce was definitely the Nina. Love that they play The Beach Boys nonstop. read more

When I arrived, it seemed as though you could only order through the drive thru, which is no problem at all for me. I ordered the carne asada fries and an Elena's taco with chicken. You have the choice of a flour or a corn tortilla. I also ordered a side of cheese dip to pour all over everything because, why not? Elena's is absolutely one of the best hidden gems around Memphis. We always went to the one on summer until we moved closer to the wolfchase location. Both are great. Then they hand me my food and it's clearly the same food that has been sitting up there since the Uber driver was there. Food was cold. So I asked for new food, and I got it. I went to Elena's for lunch having skipped breakfast. I ordered 2 grilled fish tacos ($2.75 each) and a small bean and cheese burrito ($5.99). I ate the fish tacos first and they were good and tasted healthy! It didn't feel like I was putting processed food into my body as with most fast food places. I believe I'll be having those again. The $6 burrito on the other hand.... Is a no. The "small" burrito is huge so it's not like for $6 you get a tiny burrito but it was stuffed full of beans and very little cheese. Some bites were really heavy on the salt like confusingly heavy (where is that salt taste coming from?!) The burrito did not taste great even though I believe the tortilla was homemade which is like a huge deal for me. I was given literally 7 stale chips with my burrito order. Disappointing food last night. The rolled tacos were stone cold, so cold that the cheese sprinkled on top was not at all melted. I imagine that you prepare the rolled tacos in advance and slightly fry them, and then finish frying them when ordered. I believe they were taken from the refrigerator and put directly into the take out box. The big wave burrito that we ordered with 'light grilled jalapeños' had no jalapeños at all, very little steak and was mostly potatoes and raw chopped onions. Further, the quest dip was not fully melted and still had chunks of cheese. Our meal was inedible. We've always enjoyed Elena's food, but last night's experience was horrible. Wow, what happened to this place? It's been about 6 months since we last visited. We have always gotten the grilled chicken burrito and grilled chicken cali burrito. Something has happened to the quality of chicken. It is gross. It is basically rotisserie chicken now with TONS of dark meat. Before, it would grilled white meat chicken, and you could taste the grilled flavor. This new chicken mixture is AWFUL! The texture is gross. Very disappointed in the quality. Disappointed! I've gone to the first location several times with no issues. I decided to try out this location because it's closer. The first time I visited the service and food was pretty good. Based on my first experience I decided to return last night roughly around 7. There wasn't any other customers but me so the service was super fast and based on the quality of my food it was too fast! I live in Oakland so when I got home I sat down to eat the chicken rice bowl that I ordered. One thing that I can't stand is HARD UNDERCOOKED RICE! My rice was so hard and I really tried to eat it anyway because again I live all the way in Oakland! Then I noticed the chicken was hard and obviously had been sitting out because it definitely wasn't fresh... Like at all!! I ate about a third of the bowl and threw the rest in the trash!
