    Steak fajita tacos
    Tara H.

I've been here numerous times since my last review and felt I needed to change my review. It must have been the taco I got the first time, because every other taco has been really good. Not nearly as messy as the fajita tacos. My favorites have been the Brushire and the republican. The mango and Jamaican jerk flavors go so well together in the Brushfire and their brisket with BBQ in the republican is very good. Another I enjoyed was the Baja grilled shrimp. The queso is still awesome. I want to try another dip, but I know I would crave that queso later. No change on service. We get our food in a timely manner and everyone we have dealt with has been nice. I still like the way the place looks. It's unique and fun. No updated pictures because I always forget to take them because the food looks too good when it arrives.

We had an awesome time at Torchys! As a big group it was perfect in accommodating everyone through ordering individually at the counter. We queso was delicious and they offered something that everyone would enjoy. As a non-meat eater, I tried both veggie options and liked both. The fried avocado being the favorite and a reorder when I return in the future! Recommend!!!

Lots of admissions on the front end here: 1) this review is biased. 1a) I hold a Gold Card- I bought $250 in gifts cards during December (to be used by me and The Scientist as we go most Sundays- so we get free queso until the end of 2024. 1b) I am not a fan of the menu reboot. 1c) I'm hoping Memphis is a test market for the menu thing. 2) this is NOT an authentic taco place: go to Guadalupana or a taco truck on Winchester or Summer for that delicious noise. 3) this is not any way biased by the atrocious parking situation created by a) Liquor Store (which I don't think is that good) or b) Henhouse (which I imagine to be like a clubhouse for Karens to discuss the practical and surgical applications Botox, or frien-emeies to debate advances in vapidity). Ok. With that out of the way, I really, really like Torchy's. I loved the secret menu. I was an Ace of Spades, Green Chili Pork Missionary Style, Matador kind of guy. Those are gone. Muerte. Eighty-sixed. Grumble. So for the past couple of weeks, I've careened around the inserted Tacos of the Month that now comprise the revamped menu. The Scientist got her usual order: Tipsy Chick and Crossroads. As usual, the justified themselves as her standard order, with the curve ball that the sauces now come on them rather than on the side. I don't know if this is good or bad. So, rapid fire for my trio: Hogfather: barbeque sauce is too sweet but meat perfectly cooked, textures contrasted to be complimentary, good 3/5; Baja Fish: spiced really well, fish over breaded and slightly over friend, marginally good 2.5/5, Cougar: like the Hogfather but sans sugariness, pleasant crunch from the crispy bits of friend poblano, 4/5. All in all, neck and neck with El Mero. I'm partial to El Mero because it's mom and pop, authentic meets Southern soul. Torchy's is, oddly, independent minded Austin meets profit driven corporate. The staff at Torchy's is, as it has to be said, some of the best in the fast/casual industry. You order queso, that bowl will hit your table within 47 seconds of you sitting down. Seriously. If there's a problem, yo, they'll solve it. Top tip: know what you're ordering before you make it to the front of the line. If you've never been before, you'll make it to the front, get shook, then you're going to take 5 minutes reading through the menu while everyone in line behind you gets angry. You'll ask questions, the person at the counter will calmly answer them and treat you like you're not frustrating everyone else because they're great like that. But still.

I ordered the Crossroad taco and the pull pork was quite good but once I bit. Into the middle of the taco it was all fat which I took off and enjoyed the rest of the taco now however the Hillbilly quest was nice and spicy

One of my favorite lunch spots. The food is always delicious. I highly recommend getting a bowl via the app or website, since you won't see it on the menu. I do have a few issues though. The first being my food is never ready at my scheduled pickup time, and with a quick lunch break from work that can be a problem. My other issue is the constant inconsistency on their app and website. Every time I go to order a bowl, the options have changed. I don't have access to order the same thing I did previously. For example, I love barbacoa (one of their taco meats) but there's a 50/50 shot it's available for bowls. Sometimes it's listed, sometimes it isn't. As a frequent bowl orderer, it can be frustrating to not get my favorites.

I've been eating at Torchy's since I lived in Dallas and I never miss the opportunity to eat at one if it's near me. The food is consistently great and the service is consistently friendly and fast. This isn't your normal taco shop, this is a damn good taco shop with options for everyone and fresh and funky tacos to tantalize your tastebuds. Don't skip out on the queso because it will change your life. I've eaten with multiple newbies here and I've heard "This is the best queso I've ever had" more times than I can count. My go-to is the Crossroads but I haven't had a taco yet that I didn't like. Plus it's great that you can switch everything up from corn tortilla, flour tortilla, or in a bowl! Sit at the bar and enjoy a delicious cocktail or draft beer and watch sports on the large TVs or grab a table inside or outside on the patio and enjoy a quiet meal because everyone is silently devouring their tacos. It can get a little loud, but you probably won't notice because you'll be enjoying your food so much. Don't skip Torchy's! I'll see you there!

I generally avoid dairy. I had googled and it said they had a vegan taco but they didn't have it on the menu. The cashier was new and didn't have a lot of guidance on what could be made without dairy. I got the trailer park without the sauce and cheese. It was still pretty good. My husband got the grande burrito with chicken and it was not good. We also got the trio dip app. Guac was great, got the tomatillo salsa and it was amazing! The cheese dip was really rich and chunky. It was ok but very different from anything else I've had. Service was great.

    The Bonfire Bowl

Went here for a new lunch idea with my mom and we were happily pleased! It was great! The atmosphere was fresh and young, the service was super fast! The employees were nice, and helpful! The parking lot was NOT crowded! The brushfire bowl was great, if you don't like hot I wouldn't get jerk chicken or avocado sauce! Overall it was a great experience I would recommend anyone!

I was a bit disappointed in this place. I was expecting Mexican fast food, but it strayed too far from authentic Mexican food for me. All of the meat was well seasoned; I tried the grilled chicken and the smoked beef brisket. However, for the size and the quality of the tacos, I do not think they should be $6 apiece. I can find authentic Mexican tacos for a far better price. The service was also less than satisfactory. I sat at the bar and the bartender was short with me and unwilling to give recommendations - she just said "whatever you like." I did like their green chile queso! If you want to grab margaritas and a quick snack, this could be a fun spot. Otherwise, I would go elsewhere for food.

I was not told to come to the hostess stand to be seated, no friendly greeting when I did approach the stand. Once seated, the chip & salsa dude was quick enough in dripping them off w/out so much as a greeting. Maybe he's the silent type? Who knows? 2 Now the real wait begins.... Nothing to drink nor any sign of anyone even slowing down @ my table to take a drink order. Maybe they were fighting to see who would take my order? ‍ I was almost finished w/the basket of chips, decided what I wanted and LAID THE CLOSED MENU on the other side of the table close to the edge, hoping someone would notice. I had decided if they couldn't be bothered to come by the time I finished the chips I was leaving. Magically a waitress finally shows up w/3 chips to spare. Placed the order for water and dinner at the same time. Dinner came out quickly but looking pitiful w/barely a full tablespoon of guac, tomatoes or sour cream. Cheap bastards! The flour part of the chimichanga was NOT CRISP, & I was given plastic utensils to maneuver this sad plate. I have eaten here MANY times as I live in the area so I am more than disappointed w/this experience. Not a single customer sitting in the middle @ the 4-tops & @ least 7 booths empty; on a Saturday night @ 8:00 pm. The combination of sweet and savory flavors worked really well together. 2. Campechano Burrito (4/5; steak strips and chorizo with rice, beans, lettuce, onion, tomato, and jalapeño): Steak and chorizo are always a winning combination, and this burrito did not disappoint. 3. Chirucas Chimichanga (4/5; two medium chimichangas stuffed with rice, beans, cheese dip, and your choice of meat, served with lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream): I chose the grilled marinated pork (al pastor), which was flavorful and satisfying. The server mentioned that the chicken version is their favorite. The service was decent overall, though it could be slow at times. I noticed a few tables waiting a while before servers came to take orders or refill drinks, and my drink was empty for a bit before getting a refill. The building alone should bring and sustain traffic if you don't suck. This place is gorgeous! Inside and out! They have an identity crisis going on with it though, you see. You can't have cheese dip, enchiladas, burritos, and table-side flaming surf and turf all on the same menu. WTH? Who thought this was a good idea? Anyway... I made a reservation through Yelp the day of. I got a confirmation, and then another text asking me to confirm again. I did, and it responded with a supporting confirmation. On the way there a freaking crazy ass straight line wind storm blew through Memphis and knocked the power out all over. 8-22-26 We almost turned around and went home, but were notified by my camera system we had lost power. We called to confirm they had power and dude asked again if we had a reservation. We again confirmed with our name and told them we were on the way. We get there 20 mins later and neck tattoo host guy is like "do you have a reservation, how did you reserve? I tried to call you and tell you that I didn't have a reservation". Yea?? That's curious.. I replied with, "we just talked to you". He said "it's ok, I got you". Thanks for the favor homie. Seated and the Salsa Cart shows up. I knew we were in a first class place right then! Some kid painted very nicely. Salsa lady asked us about what we wanted in our salsa. She then made our "guac" and gave us the salsa. She had about 15 items on the cart to mix in, but oddly, she used none of it other than an avocado and some premade pico she threw on top. Salsa was good though. During the wait to order the ratchetness kept building. We almost left before we got our food. Some dude in the same room as us starts to watch his Insta Feed at full blast phone volume. C was beside herself. I believe he got the hint as we were loudly proclaiming that he was being rude and needed to be asked to leave. He stopped after that. Food is what expected. I came for overpriced Mexican and they delivered 100%! C took two bites and was done. No one even asked why the whole plate went in the trash. Mine was edible, but probably because of all of the edibles I had that day. She had some version of chicken Parmesan but with salsa. It came with frozen fries smothered in Pace looking picante sauce. She said it tasted "fake and like chemicals". She offered me some, no thanks. I had the Tres Especial. I should have read more of the description. I saw steak, chicken, and shrimp and just ran with it. It wasn't that bad but it's available across the street at El Mezcal for 1/3 of the price, better tasting, and on a hot flaming skillet. This was essentially cool fajitas drowned in congealed cheese dip. They didn't bring me my corn tortillas, so it got cooler as I waited on those. Then my server disappeared for 25 minutes. We could not escape fast enough. I guess we will find out how much longer they pump money into it before they close. Never again! Two stars because I got $25 off! '26 - 103

The lamb sliders remain my go-to. They're consistently juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly every time. Paired with the crispy fries, it's a meal that never disappoints. This visit, I ordered a Sidecar, but the bartender didn't have every ingredient needed for the traditional recipe. Instead of saying no, they created their own twist--and it was absolutely delicious. Sometimes improvisation pays off, and this cocktail was proof. The salmon was also excellent. I ordered it prepared the original way instead of the new menu version that includes Brussels sprouts, and it was exactly what I was craving. One of the highlights of the visit was an unexpected surprise from our waiter, who brought us a sample of their avocado ice cream. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was creamy, smooth, and surprisingly delicious. It was a thoughtful gesture that added to an already great dining experience. The only disappointment? They no longer offer the flight sampler. I was genuinely sad to see it gone because it was one of my favorite ways to experience several menu items in one visit. Overall, Babalu continues to deliver excellent food, attentive service, and outstanding drinks. Even with the flight no longer available, it's still one of my top recommendations in Memphis. 5/5 Stars - Consistent quality, excellent hospitality, and a place I'll gladly keep returning to.

I loved that they allowed us to also serve as mixologist if you had a ticket under your seat (which i did). The Tickets are $40+ tax and gratuity and I felt there were very reasonable. Well good golly Miss Molly 'cause she is back! Molly's was one of the first real Mexican food…read morerestaurants in the city filled with Latin style restaurants where the other guys foods resembled what you'd expect from TV dinners. It was great, everything was authentic - but then Molly retired and the new owners moved the location to the hip and popular Overton Square. The restaurant turned into a bar - strong drinks with just OK food. And that was fun, if only you didn't come here to eat. Reciently the restaurant has changed hands and the new owners have turned it back into a real Mexican eatery. Now the menu is awesome, and about half of it caters to vegetarian appetites. And not wheatgrass, and Tofu... this is real Mexican food. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of pork chicken and beef. There are very large menu. And now, everything you look at it is delicious. I have been coming here since they opened and just now realized, I wanna try everything on this new menu. We had the beef chili rellinos with mole and refried beans, which I don't know how they do it but the refried beans have no pork and taste like they're loaded with bacon. She opted for a a la cart selection of black bean soup, roasted poblano pepper and cheese tamale, mushroom, cheese and spinach enchilida served with guac and pico. And as soon as our server left with our order, we immediately felt like we should have ordered this or that instead until our food arrived. TBO. Everything was totally delicious. I guess it means we just have to come back more often and try everything else on the menu. My server was amazing even though we did not order alcohol... (I had the worst feeling that since this place was really a drinking establishment for so long that they really kind of expected to grab a Margarita). The bill came with an included 20% tip, which I would always do anyway but i'm still kind of eah about telling me how to tip... politics! That said the prices were reasonable and the food was killing it delicious.

I am always hesitant to go to venues that do not have a private lot. I ordered a Frozen OJ which tasted good. My friend wanted to go hear because they have a ton of vegan options. It did the trick.
