I will preface this by saying I didn't order a pizza. That being said I ordered the grilled cheese which touted mozzarella, pesto, baby spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes on sourdough. I opted for the garlic fries upcharge, bringing my total to $19.00. Somehow I justified it because I like these toppings and these toppings weirdly weren't available on a pizza. Or at least I didn't see it via the phone based ordering system. Yes, that's right, this is all of the future check with wrist bands and pour your own beer situation. Don't look for a paper menu, they ain't here. My sandwich wasn't a grilled cheese. It was basically pesto toast with large sun-dried tomatoes and scraps of mozzarella. Baby spinach was just missing. I did inquire to the host (perchance the only actual employee?) and he did talk to the kitchen and I guess they were out. With that information I turned to my friend Robert and said, "You know why we have servers? So they can let you know they're 86 spinach." I suppose I would have adjusted my order had I known this too. What's nuts is, they have ingredients to make a better grilled cheese. I mean, step one: add cheese. Why not mix the ricotta and pesto together and then add like havarti or something that may actually melt and have flavor. The sun-dried tomatoes should be sliced smaller. The garlic fries were fine, but also could have had more flavor. Robert's and neighboring table's pizza looked fine. Is it better than any other place offering Detroit style pizza? Hard to say. I guess I'm not in a hurry to go back. The kind host did make an adjustment to my bill for lack of spinach--but having a server would have prevented that being necessary. read more

I was heading home hungry when I passed Elephant & Co, a restaurant I had on my radar for months. It was way past lunch and well before dinner, so I was surprised by the steady stream of customers in this pizza/tap/game room, a difficult genre to define. Upon entering, the staffer explained the set-up to enjoy a variety of beers, poured and priced by the volume. Located at the back of the restaurant, customers can select beer flavors and serve themselves, no bartender needed. A tab is started and charged based on usage, tracked through the wristband provided to you. I ordered over mobile via a QR code, selecting pretzel sticks with beer cheese dip and a large, Detroit-style pizza. The soft pretzels were tender with a lovely crusty exterior. I inhaled the first pretzel since it was past lunchtime, savoring the salty, cheesy bites. I must admit, the pretzels' saltiness temporarily affected my taste buds because the pizza had little flavor, even with the pepperoni, sausage, and olives. I definitely did not taste the hot honey drizzle. I want to praise the light, airy crust. For a deep dish pizza, it did not sit heavy in my tummy. I also appreciated that the pizza was served on a rack, to allow air circulation and to prevent sogginess. The space was dark and had both large communal tables and smaller, intimate tables. It's not super busy inside, only two other table today. Parking lot attached, that's a plus during the week and Saturday. Order via the QR code at the table. Ordered a regular Sexy tractor and a regular Lil kimchi with chicken (on special), added garlic and jalapeno. $52.81 Regular pizza takes about 15 minutes to make. Wish they had a salad, since they have much of the ingredients for the pizzas anyways. Oh well. No salad tonight. You get a wristband if you get tapped beer. We aren't drinking, so we skipped the spiel. Our metal trays look a bit weathered, hoping they are clean. The little kimchi chicken is flavorful, crust is perfect, even better on the regular with 4 corners. Lacking in chicken, only encountered two small chunks of chicken out of two pizza corners so far. No this place was surprisingly not it for me I've been to the other location. It's much cleaner. This place was so NOT what I thought it was. The guy behind the counter and the register picked his nose while we waited for our pizza, which immediately gross me out. The place was not clean and very empty. He brought out our pizza which we couldn't eat because we couldn't stop thinking how he was just picking his nose at the register before bringing our pizza to the table. Stupidly good pizza. The elote returns is unlike any pizza I have ever had before. The crust is perfectly crispy. I would pass on the pretzels in future, the beer cheese didn't have a lot of flavor. They have trivia on Tuesdays, which was fun. My biggest surprise was the acoustics. Most places like that are loud but this place you can easily enjoy a convo with your table even when super busy. We came 2-3 months ago and had a solidly good visit. The pizza here is phenomenal - such cool flavor profiles. The elote option is really worth trying. I really wish you could order a four piece, instead of the large pizzas only. For two people, this was definitely limiting for us. There were also a surprising number of taps that were not working, which prevented us from trying a number of the drink options that were otherwise advertised. I've been to several iterations of this building/location (Roak, Lincoln Tap, now Elephant & Co) and I think Elephant & Co is my favorite so far. The pour-your-own beer system makes it so easy to try different varieties, and I honestly have yet to have an EMBC or Ferndale Project beer that I haven't liked. They have trivia some nights as well which seems to draw a crowd, and we had fun playing along! Typically I have played Quizzo trivia and they use a different type of trivia game here, but still fun. But the PIZZA. The pizza here is phenomenal. They have really fun toppings and the crust is some of the best Detroit-style crust I've had (...maybe the best?). Came on Dream Cruise weekend (Sunday around 2pm) there were only a few people in the place - not sure if that's how Sundays normally are or if it was because of the cruise. Tried the chicken salad sandwich and garlic parm fries. Both were really good. Self serve beer wall, water for non-beer drinkers. NO restaurant has ever done that so we're now loyal customers forever just for that. Second, the pizza is outstanding. We had the Magherita, the Fungi, and the Spicy Pepperoni and all were delish. The CRUST!!! Holy focaccia, it's magnificent The self tap beer is genius and easy to use. Mine was the orange and it was yummy. Be aware that tables are communal so you'll make friends. A smorgasbord of beer!! What a great place, you get to pour your own beer! They have over 20 handles of draft beer to choose from. I tried 6 different styles of beer and settled on the Elephant IPA. Being a home brewer this kind of place is right up my alley!!! *** MANAGER FAILURE*** We went to Elephant&Co. 4/25/26. We had a party of 20 and were seated until a party of 30 walked in who also had a reservation. This is not a huge place and there were other customers there besides our 2 parties. There was not enough room for both parties so that was a very big issue. The parties tried working with the manager to resolve the situation but at a certain point the manager threw up his hands and said "I quit" and walked out the door. Unbelievable that a manager would abandon his coworkers, the height of unprofessionalism. Also both parties were being reasonable and just trying to work the situation out. All that being said, I want to praise the staff that were there, they did a great job of taking care of everyone. We had the Elote and Coney pizza and bread sticks. The Elote was great and the Coney was very good. I am going to score the review on the performance of the staff and the food and not on the abysmal performance of the manager. read more

I live right by here, so I was very happy to see the old ROAK loction get used. My brother and I finally came in to try it. First off, the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. Explaining how the ordering and syuch works. Our food was very good, and the beers were also good. They could be a bit colder, but then iot was not very full when we came in so we make have just gotten the beer sitting in the lines... it waent warm, just not as cold as we would have liked. The atmosphere was really good as well. The downside? Their ordering system is...well, it's not simple. I know places want to use tablets and the like, but when you complicate the ordering with some procedure, it's a little off-puttong. It is also not a cheap place. Chicken strips, pizza (which was VERY good) and two beers and two soft drinks were pretty expensive. We may well come back, but not nearly as often. Also, when we looked into the bill to see what things cost, there was no easy way to look it up. They had to email my brother the bill. It all checked out and made sense when we saw it, but the lack of a simple bill where we could just see what we were being charged for what was also offputting. Overll though, we were not dissapointed. If the ordering and billing was more straight forward it would be 5 stars. -1 for the over complication but the food and service was great. Oh, and the manager was very polite, friendly and patient when we wanted to see out bill and made sure we did get it through email. So again, staff get 5 stars. This place is a shell compared to the previous place. The brewery that was here prior to elephant and company had ambiance. This has a Hall with a couple tables in it. For a tasting room I would expect flight glasses to go along with the full size glasses. There were none to be found. The gentleman at the front counter explain to me how things worked and of course was very open for any questions that I had, but it was pretty self-explanatory. I probably tried 10 of their selections, all very nondescript and pretty much mediocre. How are the pizza did look good and I think that's why people go there, I can't see spending the entire evening there as a date or anything else. The armbands are turned in to a basket on the counter that is open to the public, which I don't understand why someone wouldn't be able to pick up a band and use it on your account. Someone isn't at the register all the time unlike its counterpart at the North end of Royal Oak. So here's the rundown, you can order your pizza at the front or by the QR code on the table but you will need to go to the front to get your wristband for the self pour. Laws limit you to 32 ounces before you have to check back at the front to many sure you shouldn't be cut off. They had almost all the beers good to go, with a few tapped out. Tasty beers! We came for the special fall pizza they advertised but due to staffing they ended up not having it. So we got the meatball and it was delish - whipped herbed ricotta on top? Say less! The chicken finger platter was good too, we got it for my daughter but it was yummy and had the dill seasoning on it Like at Ferndale project (though subtle) with amazing ranch I love how places like this always draw in parents who need a drink haha there were a few other littles like mine that were around -(they were not disruptive or running around) but our family was in good company. There are long tables meant for groups to share, and barrels with barstools for smaller parties. When we went some people didn't seem to understand the long tables could have more than one party lol so, share the space y'all! This is amazing. I got fries, chicken, and a pizza and all were beyond my expectations, they tasted like what I would expect Michelin star food to taste like. Amazing. The staff are so nice, if it's your first time they will explain everything you need to know like what the wristbands are, how to order, and what their beer "Elephant Juice" is. It was amazing. When you walk in there is a beautiful price of art and some games to play while you wait for food. The wait time is like 15-20 minutes but totally worth it. 100/10 would recommend and I am coming back here soon. read more

This pizza was so good!! We decided to take the dogs to Barkside Detroit and we found out that Elephant & Co delivers there for free. We really wanted to try the pierogi pizza, but it was sold out so we went for the spicy meatball. It was delicious. The crust was crunchy and airy and the sauce had good flavor. The spicy sauce on top was unique. (It wasn't that spicy to me, though). The chunks of meatballs were huge and it had a great taste. We will definitely order this again. read more

This place is such a cool space. It's a bit quiet in here though. They need more upbeat music. They could also use some lite bites. It smelled a little strange when we walked in. It was not very busy either for a Thursday. The seltzer tasted flat. I had a great campfire s'mores beer. They ask for gratuity when it's pour your own beer. That's a little weird. I think this place could be improved. Add some food or at least a dessert menu or grab and go style food if you're trying to keep it self serve.
