Great little restaurant in the middle of Royal Oak on Main Street. Love that they have an entire vegan section/side of the menu for those who eat vegan. While they offer outdoor seating, we opted to eat indoors as it was a blazing 92 degrees. The seats at the tables are very comfy. Our server was new but he did a great job. If he hadn't told us, we wouldn't have guessed it. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sliders but without the peaches or jalapeños. They did give me a side of sweet pickle chips though. The sliders comes with a Baja sauce that's fairly spicy so the sweet pickles balanced the heat. I would like to try their S'mores Waffles sometime but more for a dessert. So, I'll be back! read more

Always a great place to eat with friends. They have something for everyone! Their vegan menu has a lot of decent options for vegan food. I've had their shakes before which were actually pretty good. The drunken chicken Philly was good, especially with the beer cheese, but I wish there was more cheese on the inside of the hoagie. The chicken itself was kind of bland and tasted mostly of pepper. Ale Mary's is one of those spots that just gets it. Super chill vibe, great energy, and when it's not freezing outside (Michigan problems ), the indoor/outdoor seating setup is perfect. It's an easy place to settle in, whether you're grabbing a drink, meeting friends, or easing into a weekend. I love that they have brunch now, and it's legit. The Dubai pancakes are a must--flavorful, indulgent, and straight-up beautiful. They also know how to properly scramble an egg, which sounds basic until you realize how many places mess that up. We eat with our eyes first, and the food here always looks as good as it tastes. The staff is consistently friendly and welcoming, which makes a big difference. Great drinks, great food, great vibes. I went to Ale Mary's for their Christmas pop up: Jingle, and it was the most festive holiday outings I've had this season! The inside and outside was decorated head-to-toe in festive lights, ornaments, and wrapping paper. My party and I sat in their igloo outdoor seating which highlighted the festive atmosphere. The igloo seating was easy to book online on Open Table with a max seating of 6 people per igloo. The holiday drink menu for the Jingle pop up had a lot of range. I tried their Santa's Milk & Cookies holiday cocktail, which came in a festive Mrs. Claus' mug. The drink was VERY strong! I ordered the Crisper Chicken Sandwich which had a delicious pesto aioli and sun-dried tomato relish which elevated the sandwich. Yum! Between the decor, themed drinks, great food, and the fun atmosphere, this event was such a great way to kick off the holiday season. Terrible! Terrible! I went to ale Mary's beer hall this past Saturday to enjoy a nice brunch with my friends and also to try there soft served overly priced lemon drops. To start off our hosts had a very strong attitude when we came in waiting to be sat down and then tried to tell us that we didn't have a reservation when we did and I showed her even though it was the wrong number of guests I let her know we were willing to waiting she than got an attitude and got the manager for something that she could have fixed herself! Next we were sat and we were greeted with our server and we started ordering. When we acted for the price of a certain drink the server didn't know which would have been nice to know ahead of time before purchasing a $18 drink! We proceeded to order our foods and then every time we ordered something she would come back to us to let us know that they were out of pretty much a lot of things on the menu, it's not like we went late in the day we were there 11-12,. Then came the man who than was handing out the foods to the wrong people and proceeded to drop a plate of food on us and didn't say sorry or apologize he blatantly just came out with the plates and didn't even ask who's was who's which led to giving us the wrong orders. The food definitely wasn't worth the prices and we sent something back to explain how it was cold and salty and or server explained in a rude way "well this is how we make it", which is fine but she was very rude about to exchange when were just explain why with not rudeness. Even the table next to us was having. Issues with the same server the server did roll her eyes at that table when they said they needed something. Stopped in for the Christmas pop up with some friends. The place was nicely decorated. We had a reservation, but they stuck us in the last table by the kitchen and we kept getting bumped by people coming out with food from the kitchen area. The place was pretty cramped as well. They had a selection of holiday cocktails that were alright. The menu seemed to have a lot of options, but the food was mediocre at best. I doubt any of us would be back. It's been on my holiday bucket list to check out "Jingle" at Ale Mary's! The themed menu and decor definitely illuminates the ultimate festive atmosphere! They are definitely busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait. We ended up finding a seat at the bar where we received friendly service and our food arrived promptly and hot! I greatly enjoyed my chicken and waffles, the chicken was freshly battered and the waffles were perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My guy enjoyed his chorizo hash but said it is VERY spicy so if you are appeased by spice, that is your thing! This is a go to place when we are in town visiting friends. Has an entire vegan menu which is great, along side the non vegan menu. The service is great, we had a very accommodating waiter who checked ingredients for my allergies. The one down side is the prices, but where isn't that the case these days? although the food is good, and the atmosphere is great the prices are astronomically high!! for one person It was over $88. the appetizer alone was $16.50. I have never been to a place where an appetizer would cost $16.50 unless it's a trio platter. The entrée was a dollar more than the appetizer and when the Mediterranean vegan bowl arrived at my table, it was smaller than what the entrée was. Add tofu to that they added $4.50. The beer is extremely pricey which is not surprising because most places charge an arm and a leg for any liquor, wine or beer, however their beer doesn't come in a tall Pilsner glass. It comes at a fancy glass that's a size of a coffee mug. Overall, there are multiple places in Royal Oak that cost less that are just as good as this place. I recommend going elsewhere. read more

I ordered the CKN & Waffles. It was lackluster at best. I tried the CKN separately, as well as the waffles to taste the flavor. Both had no distinctive taste outside of breading/dough flavor. I then tried them together and the blandness was compounded. I was extremely hungry, but could only stomach just over one waffle and one chicken strip. The presentation was nice and Ckn was crispy. Open late in Royal Oak, and with the space fully decked out for the Christmas season, we swung by at 9pm on a Wednesday evening and it was poppin. While the menu on their website needs updating (they don't have shrimp tacos or chicken tacos any longer, but have added many other fun options), overall the food was decent and tasty. We got the Buffalo Cauliflower- solid, delicious, and a good portion size - to start. For our meals, we got the impossible burger, the vegan Korean style "beef" burger, and the impossible chorizo nachos. All were good, but nothing really stood out to us by any means. My partner got a beer, which he really enjoyed. They have an extensive beer menu and among them, a selection of Christmas brews. I got the margarita with cranberry puree on the cocktail menu, which wasn't too sweet yet boozy and balanced. I definitely recommend the buffalo cauliflower... However, the service left a lot to be desired. Our server was consistently away for periods of time , usually wrapping silverware in the back. When I asked for the paper towels to be refilled in the men's restroom, multiple times to different staff, they were never refilled through the entirety of our visit of over an hour and a half. While we were able to get seated quickly upon arriving, I hear rumors of long wait times at other points in the week, so be ready to be patient. So I generally only have anything to say if it is a positive thing. This will be a first for me, but it was so ridiculous that I have to share. I will generally say that I love the staff at this place, and I've always had a great rapport with them. The younger woman with the long hair who was serving me this evening was NOT it. First of all, when you order meat well done, and it comes to you almost raw, you don't immediately start attacking the person who wants to return it by defending the cook. I don't really care what the story is, people who eat meat well done do not want it raw. I practically had to send up an emergency flare to get any sort of eye contact after 25 minutes, as did the servers from another restaurant who were sitting at the bar having drinks. I shared their eye rolls. There was no one at the bar and we were virtually ignored until she felt like doing something with her free time. She proceeded to treat me like garbage after I explained to her that eating a corner of a hamburger that was bloody disgusted me and I really didn't feel like eating anymore of that food. While they did give me a refund, bravo for that, I had also ordered a mac & cheese, and that was never even put into the system. To be treated so horribly in the face of such terrible service,- like wow. I honestly give everyone the benefit for the doubt. But not when they treat me like I'm trash and I'm a member of this community and really enjoy supporting it with my patronage. -5/5. I spent $100+ on dinner with my date to go completely hungry. I just had brunch at Ale Mary's and it was a little disappointing. I had the Surf and Turf Benedict, with a side of roasted redskin potatoes, and a salted caramel iced coffee. on the menu it says the Surf and Turf Benedict is: Filet mignon, Jumbo lump crab, and house made hollandaise sauce. when it was served it was on an english muffin and it also had 2 poached eggs on top. The menu did not say this, but since eggs benedict is usually on and english muffin with poached eggs I was ok with it. The filet mignon was basically cut up steak bites, but they tasted very good. The poached eggs were good, There was not much hollandaise sauce. But the Biggest disappointment was the jumbo lump crab because it on top of the hollandaise sauce and it was just a few flacks of crab meat on each egg, ( I would guess that it was about 1/4 a teaspoon of crab meat on each egg ) I can't believe that was what they call jumbo lump crab! When the waiter asked me: "How is everything?" I told him that there wasn't much crab, he agreed with me and laughed. I still can't believe they charge $21.50 for it. The salted caramel ice coffee was good but it was mostly ice which was disappointing since it cost $11.00 The only thing that did not disappoint me was the roasted redskin potatoes. they were very good. And the waiter was very nice. I ordered an All-American which included potatoes, scrambled eggs. I'm guessing that was cheese, bacon and potatoes number one. The eggs tasted like powder eggs. The potatoes had too much salt on them. The bacon was good. It was actually good. My daughter had pancakes that were dry. No butter. As for butter, about 10-12 times, never received it. So the only thing we had to put on the pancakes was syrup. I sat and waited for at least 20 minutes before I received silverware. I received my food before I received the silverware the utensils to eat with. Everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere was very good. Overall. I love my service. I like my server. She was very nice. She was very polite I guess due to them having a real big party. You know that everyone was probably needed but I don't know. Will I go back? No did I pay my bill? Ok. Two weeks ago this past Tuesday, I walked into Ale Mary's. I proceeded to the bar to have lunch. Unfortunately l was never greeted by anyone. I watched servers walk right past me. I watched a cook talk to what I believe was a 'manager' yet nothing. I sat at the bar for 12 minutes without an acknowledgement from anyone. I then proceeded to leave. Tonight, I wanted to stop in and give it another try. I was greeted this time, however the 'host' informed me that (while I was staring at a banquette with 14 seats available, they had no room for me. This is my world and I understand resos, but how quickly he said it, like he didn't have a hospitable bone in his body, bothered me. Then as I was leaving and basically just shaking my head at what hospitality has become, he attempted to yell from the host stand that something had amazingly "opened up." I was already out the door, but did hear his cries. I've spent the last 20+ years in Chicago and travel frequently to work with different restaurants. The lack of hospitality here makes me really worry. These are basic ideas that don't seem to resonate here. I've gone to Ale Mary's a couple times and this visit I found myself being more observant. While dining, I was informed that they recently had a viral shake on TikTok. However, I was not expecting the intensity of the crowds. I have a couple cons during this visit the first of which, if you are a wheelchair user or use a walker or cane it's gonna be incredibly intense to navigate through this restaurant. It is very tight and packed. My only recommendation would be to check out their outdoor seating of course if the weather is viable. I felt as though the staff was Overworked so we waited an extended amount of time just to get drinks. That's nothing to the staff, I can tell that they were working tirelessly to try to get all these tables under control. Now, although the drink was viral, there was no milkshakes to be found. We were informed by our waitress that the vegan milkshakes were completely out of stock as they didn't have the ice cream needed. I found myself being envious as I walked past the Adjacent taco establishment as someone was eating a delicious milkshake. Overall, my guest truly enjoyed their chicken, Caesar salad and my vegan burrito was quite delicious. In fact, I questioned if it was real meat. It does have a little bit of a kick to it fair warning. The lavender mocktail didn't have a strong lavender taste, which I would've enjoyed to have and so if they're doing, I suggest finding a lavender farmer in Michigan and getting that lavender simple syrup to really push that taste. Overall, I'm not sure if I'll be returning for in person dining. We stopped in for a few drinks during their holiday Jingle Pop up most recently and while there were no tables available, we were able to immediately sit at the bar. We weren't getting food, so thus worked out for us perfectly. The holiday cocktail menu was varied, which was great for me because there are a few spirits I don't drink. I chose to stick to just one cocktail but sample some of their beer menu because it's always top notch. I don't like dark/winter beers so I was very happy to see some hoppy options available. A great casual place to catch up with friends. For drinks, I got the shrek cocktail which was okay. It's obviously a beer place and the friend I went with said the beer was good! For dinner, I got the crispier crispy chicken sandwich which while definitely crispy, had a breading to chicken ratio that was too much. Several bites were just bites of crisp with no chicken, which was disappointing and the flavor was a little bland.
