A pre school little table, old airline blankets to sit on--but only 6 of those, no cups no cutlery no placemats, no nothing----nothing for smores, 4 thin wood sticks and a metal tub big enough for a baby for the fire, nothing to light anything, one 18" light strand, tiki torches that didn't light---need I go on? It was a complete travesty? How are they allowed to operate? Montauk and the Town of East Hampton need to shut them down immediately. Yelp needs to kick them off because they are fraudsters. The tide goes out really far, and leaves plenty of things to explore such as tide pools, and long sand bars that go out again very far. It does cost money to get in, but I think it's free after like 6pm. Only thing I wasn't a fan of is the swimming area. There are big patches of grasses growing right where you'd swim during high tide, and it makes the swimming area very small, and a few big rocks that should be moved and are dangerous. Very clean beach. Haven't seen really any trash or plastic. There are crabs to catch, and shells to find. They even let us drop off for free. It is considered one of the best beaches in Ct.

The sand is dark and super fine. The water was pretty dirty and smelled like a fish market. We later learned the smell was due to the red seaweed. It was also very cold. One thing to watch out for: the seagulls here don't mess around. They'll absolutely go after your food and dig through your stuff if you leave it unattended. When we visited, the carousel and the food stands were closed or out of commission. One nice thing is that you can access the Cliff Walk from here, which is definitely worth checking out. Overall, it's a decent beach but I don't think it's worth driving out of your way to visit. We visited the second Beach the next day. After seeing that, there's no comparison. If we're ever back in Newport, we'll go there instead. It's on a completely different tier. I honestly don't understand all the "best beach in Rhode Island" comments for this place. In my opinion, Second Beach is far superior.

The area we go to is along the hotel strip . If you are staying at one of the hotels there you will have easy access to the beach otherwise you'll have to find a parking spot and walk on . Use the entrance ways along S. Emerson Ave , there are several of them . The beach is lovely but there is a downside , the beach itself is very narrow so when it begins to get crowded you are pretty much shoulder to shoulder with other beach goers . You will also find the sand to be grainy with lots of broken shells. Also, there are no public bathrooms as the strip is mainly for the hotel guests. Even still the ocean is relaxing and beautiful !
