If you don't, you'll be ticketed over and over again by the bay constable until you move your car, unlike other places in the city where you can remain parked once you get a ticket. So be warned! One really annoying thing is that people bring their dogs during off hours and some will bury their dogs waste in the sand instead of picking it up... If you're gonna own a dog... Own all of it, people!!! Still this beach has some awesome sand and great views of the ocean, amazing sunsets and equally beautiful full moon and stars view at night too! Multiple parking areas but one central area with spaces for bikes and electric cars and life guards and a hot and cold food shack with shower and bathroom facilities that was all rebuilt last year and looks beautiful.

The parking lot for this beach isn't paved, so I had a bit of trouble getting into and out of a spot with my car on the sand. The walk to the beach is also further than Tiana with less amenities. There's no food stand and the bathrooms are very bare bones, though there is a shower. Once on the beach though all was well, there was ample sand and surf to be had and everyone there seemed to be having a great time. I did see two dogs during my time here which made me happy since that's how I hear the beach got it's name (though I've also heard that they no longer allow dogs on the beach during main season so sorry if I'm being a narc...no one was enforcing the no dog policy when I was there though!).

My son loves the outdoors and animals so we figured it would be a perfect activity for him. We were totally right. Several trails, that aren't too difficult, surround this gorgeous spot on the Island. We did one of the shorter hikes and it was perfect for us for our first time. We were also able to bring the stroller on the hike with us. There are owls, birds, fish and turtles that can be seen throughout the refuge. It really was a fabulous day. They also have a ton of family programming too. Looking forward to making the trip out here again soon!

Located just down Dune Rd. from Ponquogue, this beach is far quieter than it's nearby brother. You'll always find the local surf talent here, along with HB residents looking for a quiet afternoon. As much as I love Ponquogue, this beach also holds a special place in my heart, after years of fun summer days spent on its peaceful sands. Most tourists are unaware of this beach's existence, and never drive past Ponquogue, although it's certainly gotten more visitors as the years go by.
