It can be really intimidating to find the right Physical Therapist. How do you decide? What makes a great PT and how do you find them when it seems like there are so many options. I had been in ankle pain for more than a year....but I did what so many of us do, I put it off, I pushed through. I climbed Mt. Whitney (after climbing all the highest peaks in Southern California) and pushed through it until I couldn't push through it anymore. Running (one of my favorite forms of exercise) was now off the table. I needed help. I sat down with a list of Physical Therapists and started calling and when I spoke to Carolyn - she listened - she asked questions and she genuinely seemed to care. After listening to me she knew I had to get in to see Dr. Maddie and she made it happen. I booked an appointment and then received my welcome packet. It was thorough and helpful and I knew what to expect before I walked into my first appointment. Maddie listened and committed to making a plan to get me back to all of my favorite activities and then she dug in and she worked hard for me and felt invested in my recovery. I can not overstate the value of the 1:1 experience. When you're working with Dr. Maddie you have her full attention and your therapy is tailored to your needs. She answers questions and keeps you informed so that you can be partners in your recovery. She uses an app to provide your home exercise routine and she adapts as needed. I was also pleasantly surprised when I was sent home with the things I needed to do my home exercises, at no extra charge! The attention to detail from Elevated Physical Therapy is unparalleled as is the level of care you'll receive from the whole team. My experience then led my husband to working with Dr. Maddie too. I was recommended to Dr. Maddie by Dr. Jason Khadavi (also a great podiatrist). I went to Maddie with a foot injury that was already over a year old and prevented me from walking/exercising normally. She was HIGHLY personalized and customized the plan to me, asking about and working with what my goals were at the end of treatment. I had 9 sessions total and those sessions went by really fast. Each session was a balance of PT massage(?) and physical exercises. They were varied and interesting, so I looked forward to each session as it didn't feel like a chore. In addition, there's a companion mobile app where you get daily exercises (with video demonstrations!) to do at home. You also have direct text messages with the receptionist, Carolyn, who is very responsive and such a rarity to find in healthcare. Issue: low back pain, probably related to running. They did 2 assessments, which seemed aimed getting me to return. They gave me 2 exercises, 4 stretches. For weeks, asked for more exercises. Every time, no, said I needed to come back. I went to another provider, they correctly diagnosed my issue: anterior pelvic tilt. Something on EPT checklist/assessment form, that they completely missed. And, new provider gave me a complete exercise program (10-12 exercises). I don't think EPT was able to deliver for performance, and they were not flexible with my time/needs. Although I'm sure they are fine for most, for me, most importantly, they missed a seemingly obvious assessment/diagnosis. read more

I was reluctant to try PT again after a poor experience with a past provider at another practice but I'm so glad I did! I struggle with intermittent pain which is challenging to communicate to a doctor when it's not actively flared up, but Aimee is empathetic and kind and really listened and believed me when I was describing my pain while not actively in pain. She gave me homework and things were going well, but my real 10/10 experience came when a flare up coincided with my appointment date. I arrived in tears because my neck and hips hurt so badly. Through massage and stretching and being gentle with me, I left the appointment feeling significantly better than when I came in and was able to go about my day without crying in pain. She has since taught me some great exercises for when I'm in an active flare up to reduce pain and we're working on building strength. I notice a big difference in my workouts from small adjustments she's given me. Also, the whole staff is warm and helpful. I know having to pay out of pocket can be a challenge and I was certainly skeptical to not get insurance coverage for PT, but I just can't recommend Elevated enough. read more

After injuring my neck/back while rock climbing, I was in pain for weeks and wasn't able to identify the source of pain or which movements were causing it. I decided to try Elevated PT after researching PT's in the Pasadena area, and this was definitely one of the best decisions I have made for my body. I am so grateful for Aimee! She is so knowledgable and was able to identify my source of pain right away while also providing me with tools and a tailored regimen to help me recover, prevent future climbing injuries, and strengthen my weaker areas. I couldn't be more grateful for Maddie and her team at Elevated PT. Last year I developed knee and back problems, went through 6 months of doctors appts, x-rays & MRI's and the doctors could find nothing wrong with me. I went from a very active lifestyle to barely being able to walk around the block because I was in so much pain. I was feeling utterly hopeless, like I wouldn't ever dance or teach fitness for the rest of my life. I finally decided that I couldn't wait for doctors to tell me what to do anymore and started doing weekly appointments with Maddie. I came in to Elevated PT with multiple injuries from more than a decade of playing volleyball. I have been going here regularly for nearly 4 years now! I am amazed at my progress I have made safely, realistically, and effectively. I injured my lower back muscles by over-exercising. They went into painful spasms that necessitated an ER visit. So when I was prescribed PT by my doctor, I wanted to get it right. Long story short, the Elevated team and their patient-first practices are worth every single penny and then some. The team helped me get back on my feet back to 110% when I thought I'd never get back to 80%. Now, the long story, I'm a physically active and overall healthy 25 year old and when I came to Elevated I had just mysteriously injured my back in a way that completely flipped my lifestyle upside down. As my Kaiser Permanente medical team was scheduling me for appointments and images over the course of many weeks, Dr. Maddie helped diagnose and treat me 6-7 weeks before I got an official diagnosis of degenerative disc disease and a herniated disc. By the time I got my Kaiser medical treatment plan, we were already well underway with a holistic care plan that far surpassed what Kaiser was able to provide. I've been seeing Dr. Maddie for the last six weeks and I have to say I'm so happy I found her. I have been struggling with a back injury for a year and then twisted my ankle so it was time to get help and Maddie was kind, efficient, a great listener and very supportive. Dr. Maddie is AMAZING!!! As a mid 40's guy, I've banged up my body over the years. In my early 20's, playing basketball, sports, crossfit, boot camp, weight gain, and neglect of proper rehab created all sorts of nagging problems. The last few years, I've been behind a desk for long hours, poor posture and bodily neglect, which has left me now with horrible back and neck pains. Prior to my consultation, I had trouble with my running (right knee swelling every single time I ran even down the street even with a knee brace). I also play in a rec basketball league but I need to wear knee braces (steel-bar, extra stiff) on each leg. Lastly, I really couldn't sleep through the night due to back pains. Needless to say, my body was not in good condition. All that has changed after my sessions with Dr. Maddie. After working working through our evaluations, Maddie has helped address multiple issues. She helped create and develop a customized program with daily stretches for my back and ATL bands. That's helped a ton with my ability to sit for long hours and my sleeping. She also helped diagnose that most of my ailments originated with my surgically repaired right knee (I had microfracture back in 2007 but never rehabbed correctly) and worked on isolating the problems of my right knee. My right knee pulled in a way where my left leg ended up doing all the work of walking, jumping, and sitting. Hence the back pain. After 3 months, I can now run 1.25 miles every other day with no pain afterwards. All WITHOUT knee braces. My back is good and so is my neck. Its been a long journey but worth it. Our goal is to run a 5K sometime before for the of the year without knee brace and no pain. Once covid ends, I plan to pick up basketball again and be able to play without my knee braces. This has been my biggest dream, to be pain free and to run freely again, without lingering doubt. Dr. Maddie is super patient and thoughtful. She has great feed back to questions about why there are certain pains and how to address them. I highly recommend her and Elevated Physical Therapy. My knee was literally in crisis when I went to Elevated Physical Therapy, the pain and pinching with every move was intense. I was also unaware of the ankle issues I was having because my knee pain was so severe. I'm happy to say in just a few short weeks of weekly PT sessions with Dr. Maddie and of course doing my homework exercises (when I remember!:/) my knee And ankle are MUCH IMPROVED. I have to leave a raving review for Maddie at Elevated Physical Therapy. I must admit, I was a little skeptical seeing Elevated Physical Therapy's post on Instagram. I figured I will contact them and sign up for a free assessment. Going into this I was ready to give up running. I was feeling worse after each run instead of healthy. I figured me knees and hips were shot and that I would have to resort to swimming and biking. To me that was depressing as I was a top high school and college distance runner. Running to me was my therapy. Running saved me as a teenager. Now I was going to have to stop. So I went to see Maddie and she was very thorough and after physically examining my joints & muscles she was able to diagnose me with having a weak core. I am five weeks into therapy and I have never felt better! I have no joint pain, my mileage up, and most importantly, I feel better after each run!!
