I took my dogs, Boss and Pinto Bean, for a check up. The staff, from the first phone call, were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I would tell how much they care for pets by the way they speak to their customers. They were able to get me scheduled quickly and I was able to bring both on the same visit, saving me time. They took care of both dogs quickly and I met with the doctor, who did a great job explaining what each dog needed. The explanations were thorough and I felt like this is the same care they would have provided for their own animals. I have been taking my exotic animals to see Dr. Emily Hoppmann for the past 4 years. She is so knowledgeable on so many different species of animals. Her specialty in my opinion, is with small rodents and rabbits. She will not recommend any treatment unless she feels it's truly nessesary. (Unlike other vets who just try to drain your wallet!) I trust her decisions and judgements with all my heart. If you have an exotic animal, they should be a patient of hers. read more

I don't understand how this business is called a Veterinary Hospital when it's appointment only. My cat is throwing up white foam and has not eaten in two days, i I was told that there is only appointments available past the following week. My cat would be dead by then. Clinics have appointments, hospitals are supposed to be exactly that. It really is a shame because I have heard great things about this place yet I did not get to experience it because they couldn't be bothered to squeeze in an actual emergency visit. You're here to help animals, try doing that. A deshedding and nail trim for another dog could have waited a bit to try and see an emergency. I'm very disappointed. read more

This woman made us feel horrible about putting down our dog who we love more than i can write. this was an extremely difficult decision that we made for our family member. Time flies quickly. It has been 8 yrs since my little Chihuahua & I have been members of the Elgin Veterinary Hospital family. My baby is really thriving under Dr. Emily's care. Dr Emily Hoppmann & her staff provides the very best of everything for all pets. My baby has minor health issues but she is well managed with the care provided. I love and use the Spa Service as not only a treat to my little girl, but also a treat for me. She has never liked a bath or having her nails trimmed. Elgin Veterinary Hospital is my Veterinary for my boys...Recon my Shepherd ( who was wounded in the leg)..."Pepper" my African Grey..."Morgan" my Yellowed collared Macaw..."Peepers" (my newest babby) a Green-Cheeked Conure and my polydactyl Main Coon/Siamese cat" Digit". I have traveled and searched for a "one stop" Vet for my boys all over the state...I tried Mt. Pleasant ...upper state etc. but found home for my boys in Elgin...I drive one hour to get there from Lake Marion but would not think of taking my boys ANYWHERE ELSE...hands down. Dr. Emily Hoppmann is a most personable and knowledgeable doctor. She is always ready to take the time to also get to know the animals owners. Took dog in for $20 nail clip. They said he had a dew claw growing into is leg, which it wasn't. It was long but didn't enter the leg. That's what they said after clipping him, and then vet said, "can I look at him?" So I said ok. She didn't say, can I do a $45 exam, which she apparently did because I got charged $65. All I got was a credit card receipt. Not even a visit printout giving details of the definitely charged exam. read more

The curbside service during COVID has been a snap and after our cat had a bad wound they got him all healed up super quick and gave the supplies we needed to continue his care. I have been taking may cats and dogs to Dr. Emily since before this person's review in 2013. My current dog Jake is a special needs dog and had health issues as a puppy which she immediately diagnosed. She was very knowledgeable about his issue and provide a care routine to help mitigate the effects of his birth defect. Of course she wants to be paid before she provides certain treatment! She is a small business owner and some people won't pay if their pet dies because they can get away with it and just go to another vet. I saw this shocking review when I went online this past weekend looking for her clinic's email so I could send her information about my dog's seizures increasing in frequency. She emailed me back THE SAME DAY, on a Saturday with instructions. I went by today to have them draw blood from my dog, what she requested on Saturday that I do. I PAID before I left because if they send the bloodwork off and I come in later and decide I can't/won't pay, they are out $200 (a full bloodwork panel because of his seizures so it was more than the normal blood work for my other older pets; since he is older and having seizures we needed more extensive tests run). For normal appointments, I pay after the appointment once we know what needs to be or was done. I am sorry for this person's experience but I wonder if the trauma of losing a beloved fur baby has clouded their judgement and memory. Or maybe a person at the front desk wasn't on their game back then. I find Dr. Emily to be a wonderful and special person and I am glad she is my pets' vet. She is loving and engaging to all my pets, talking to them as I do like they are furry little people. Some vets are more aloof or clinical but not Dr. Emily. She is always very friendly and personable to me as well with smiles and hugs when needed. I would totally recommend Dr. Emily to anyone and everyone and I have don so numerous times already. read more

I have personally used this this veterinary office for years and plan on continuing for years to come. Cats, dogs, monkeys, birds, fish, hamsters, Guinea pigs, bunnies, snakes, turtles, tarantulas, chickens etc are all welcome here and it's always a treat to visit because you never know what will be at the office. Dr. Hoppmann is our family Veterinarian and has consistently given the best care to our pets. My baby Chihuahua, Zoe and my Granddog, Chappy have been under her excellent care for years. Full service, well care, spay for Zoe and neuter for Chappy. Zoe loves mani/pedis at least every couple of months. She hates boarding, but whenever necessary I will not trust anyone or any other Vet or boarding kennel, she is provided excellent care.
