It's been 30 years since I picked up a guitar, so I decided to get a good one. After a few months of daily practice, I was looking to make the first string change on my Martin Dred Jr. I not only wanted the Martin re-strung with the lighter strings, I also wanted some guidance on care and feeding. With me standing in his shop, Eli pulled the old strings off in a flash, did some inspection, and asked specific questions on how I care for, & stored it. Then Eli gave me a talk on cleaning, adjusted the neck (was a bit off), and pointed out that the Gutiar was drying out. I was doing a few things wrong. Eli gladly shared his methods for stringing. Since the new strings are lighter than the originals, he gave me a range of light picks to work with. It sounded like a whole new instrument. Very happy. By the way, it doesn't take long to discover that this guy has a passion, and gift for restoring & working on stringed instruments. He keeps photo records on every one. My baby now among them. On the way out, Eli sent me pictures of the cleaning products he uses and a recommendation for 2 Way Humidipacks to keep the wood structure happy and humidified.
