I've been wanting to buy a new guitar and stumbled across this place while shopping nearby this weekend. The door was locked but they were open so I waited for the associate to open the door. He asked if I had an appointment and I said no I was walking by and want to see what they have. He asked me while standing in the doorway if I was going to buy something. I was confused and have never been asked that before i've even walked in a store. I said I'm not sure yet but maybe, I'm going to look to see what you have. He said if you aren't buying then we are only open if you have an appointment. Such a strange interaction to an otherwise pleasant day, I can't imagine how much rent is for this space but if a customer on a busy part of Ventura is interested in your inventory, maybe let the associate know he should let them shop. read more

Great vintage guitar store!!! I've been playing...forever it seems...and I have a modest collection of Guild and Gibson jumbos, but I'd been thinking about Martin dreadnoughts lately, and I'd been doing a bit of research on the internet. I saw quite a few guitars worthy of a closer look on their website (they have 3 locations, 2 of which are really close by). I was near Sherman Oaks, so I decided to call, they told me they had a couple to look at, so I went! Yeah, they have plenty to look at! What a cool store, and a really relaxed, unpretentious vibe upon entering. The young man behind the counter (sorry, but I can't recall his name) was super helpful, even though I told him I was just starting my search, probably not buying right away, he couldn't have been nicer. I played a couple of things...asked a few questions, and kind of fell in love with this late model HD28 in excellent condition. We both knew I was not buying that night, but I asked a few questions about pricing...he was straight-forward and honest, called the boss, gave me an honest price...and I bought it on the spot! LOL! Yeah, that easy and that relaxed. I will be buying more from them! read more

Great customer service. I went to the shop three times to play a certain guitar and each time Cruz and Sebastian were kind and informative. They were never pushy and just let me play the guitar as long as I wanted. When I'd decided to pull the trigger on the guitar, Sebastian was pretty transparent on the pricing and how my trade-ins would be valued. He made the transaction really comfortable. I decided to try to check out the Sherman Oaks location after having been to the Burbank store because this looks like a cool, little, guitar shop. I say 'try' because I the door was locked during business hours with a sign that said to Knock.... So I knocked... and knocked.... and knocked some more.... and..... No one ever answered :( Looks cute from the window - I saw a Les Paul and an Explorer I might have bought -- but odds are I won't return. Simply put there are way too many guitar shops in Los Angeles for me to waste my time with a place that publishes hours of business and can't be bothered to be there (I mean, that sign could have been there for days -- I could still be knocking!?!?!). Calling this out because if I owned or managed this store I would want to know this. Bad customer experience. Shai -- three things based upon your comments: 1. this was my first time at this location making it my first experience here, so I wouldn't consider me a customer either... just a potential customer - and I was just giving feedback on my experience in case the manager needed to make some adjustments in the store to preserve the experience of current and future customers. 2. Sounds like you had a rough day, and I am sorry for that... but I would have no way of knowing that and this review is about my experience trying to check out your store. 3. Suggestion - when taking a break (for whatever reason), it might be a good idea to put the date and time you will return - that way your customers know someone should be back at a given time and can decide what to do. For all I know, someone could have thrown up that sign and gone to lunch right before I showed up. Consider your customer's experience in addition to your own. Glad it turned out to be a good sales day for you. read more

This is a review of Tommy and his staff. I can't comment on sales or repairs since that's not why I was there - but I sure as hell will be in the future! I'm building a guitar themed bike. I needed a Fender tone knob as part of the decoration, but I couldn't find just one for sale, only kits with three. Two Guitar Centers were no-go so I came here. I showed Tommy pictures of my bike in progress and told him what I needed. He was thrilled to see what I was building and graciously gave me the knob at no cost. To be clear, you should never expect a business to give you anything for free. But it says a lot about him and his business that he made a simple gesture to a potential customer. We talked about guitars, paint jobs, his shop and the state of the business today. It really is a great shop and Tommy is as enthusiastic about guitars and music as anyone you'll find. Check them out! If you are concerned about Covid guidelines they were masked and keep the doors locked so people don't flood in and fill up the place - just knock and they'll let you in. P.S. Happened by the Imperial Vintage Guitar shop in Orange, CA the other day. Vintage guitars, have to stop and look, no? Wow, what a great little store. Great selection, great prices. "Just looking", I ended up buying a low end acoustic at a very nice price. The staff was awesome. The entire experience ridiculously pleasant. My 16 year old grandson, who is not a musician, commented as we walked out, "Wow, that was cool". These kinds of shops are dying out, many thanks to IVG for keeping the flame alive. read more

Stellar service... but I'm writing this review because, And this is a true story, my four month old son, Emerson, as in Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, ended up peeing his onesie... Tommy, one of the owners, who's a super cool guy, who also dresses super cool and suave, goes in the back, pulls out a fresh clean new onesie with the kick ass 'Imperial Vintage' logo on it, and gives it to my son, Emerson, (as in Emerson, Lake, and Palmer') so, all I gotta say is, thanks, Tommy! You made my son look cool and he doesn't smell like pee. We will be back. For the guitars, onesie was a bonus. read more

Great experience today at this Sherman Oaks guitar shop! (It came highly recommended by by a very sought after Los Angeles area guitar tech). Quite a nice selection of mid to high-end guitars -- everything from Fender Custom Shop strats and teles to Gibson Murphy lab custom shops. Not to mention several super rare vintage collector grade Les Pauls! (honestly had never seen nor played some of those level of guitars until today). Store owner (Tommy) was totally awesome as well, and incredibly gracious toward everyone who waked in the door --wish all business owners were that way. Gotta be honest....I drove all the way home with some serious G.A.S. for a particular Fender Custom Shop strat that I pulled off the wall...super gorgeous with aging/checking and a very classy light pistachio color. I had seen a bunch of reviews of the custom shops on Youtube but today was my first time I actually holding one in my hands, and you can really feel the difference. After visiting a shop like this, it really reminded me of the benefit of buying from an established and reputable brick and mortar store where you can get the expert advice needed, especially when making such an important purchase. I would definitely recommend checking this place out....and will likely be where I buy my next guitar. read more

Wow, Shai and Tommy are awesome! We were looking for a specific Manson Guitar for my son as a gift for his birthday/graduation. I thought that it would be difficult to get as they are imported from England and not sold in many places. My son and my husband and I first stopped at the Burbank location and we were told they have it in stock at The Sherman Oaks store. We went straight over and were welcomed by Shai and Tommy who were so friendly and helpful! There was absolutely no pressure, and no rush. They allowed my son to take his time to decide if it was what he wanted and to try any other guitars. They were also very knowledgeable Of course my son loved the guitar and they had it in the perfect color as well. This was a Matt Bellamy guitar and it happened to be Matt Bellamy's birthday. :) Thank you so much Shai and Tommy! This is by far the best guitar shop in LA, and one of my favorite in the entire world. Tommy and Shai are so knowledgeable and helpful, and unlike some other notable guitar shops in the area, they'll actually treat you with respect as a customer, even if you aren't famous. They always have great gear, a lot of which is actually affordable and not just meant for blues lawyers and doctors, and they're always playing great music. I've never had better customer service in my life, and I'm looking forward to many more years of buying and selling gear with these guys. read more

They brought a bass up from another location so I wouldn't have to travel. To top it off, the bass was listed at such a fair price that I scooped it up right away once I saw it. I was visiting LA and stopped by Imperial Vintage in Sherman Oaks as I had seen their Instagram account. Tommy and Shai were welcoming and funny as soon as I walked in. I am an amateur guitar player so I'm always a little self conscious trying out guitars at a shop -my skills are pretty basic- but they made me feel right at home. They were extremely thoughtful when I asked questions and were happy to let me play anything in the shop. I had a fantastic conversation with Tommy about vintage guitars and the guitar I wound up buying in particular. They gave me a fantastic price for an incredible vintage acoustic.
