Hello, I approached Imperial Vintage Guitars to sell my musical instrument, which is valued at approximately $1000. However, the company representatives offered me only $100 -- a figure far below its fair market value. When I pointed out that the offer was unfair, they falsely claimed that my instrument was "fake" without providing any evidence. Furthermore, they treated me in a mocking and disrespectful manner. I find this behavior highly unprofessional, misleading, and degrading towards customers. My product may not be worth $1000 but it is being sold for $1250 online. I've been on the hunt for a vintage Fender Deluxe Reverb amp for several years, but could never find one in the condition I wanted at a good price. Prices lately have really been taking off, so I knew I needed to make a move soon... well wouldn't you know it, a really clean 1967 blackface Deluxe Reverb come up on Reverb.com one morning and luckily it was at Imperial Vintage in Burbank--only half an hour from me! I quickly emailed them about it and they advised me that someone else was coming by to look at it and that if I was interested I should come ASAP--which, of course, I did. When I got there the staff was very chill and friendly and let me play not only the '67 but also a '66 that they had that was in a little worse condition (but still sounded great). Its nice to have choices. BTW, I'm not a great guitarist by any stretch, but no one there made me feel uncomfortable about it in any way. So, after a good amount of playing and chatting, we worked out what I felt was a very fair deal, and I went home with my new baby. After getting the amp home, I played for less than 30 minutes and POOF! Opening up the chassis, I found the problem immediately. One of the power tubes had given up the ghost and took out its screen resistor in a puff of smoke. Oh boy! I contacted Imperial Vintage that night and they felt really bad about it. They said to bring it back to them and they would have it repaired by their tech (who's shop is over an hour from me). They made the process very easy for me by having the amp shuttled over there and back by their staff. Their awesome tech went over the amp and called me to talk about my options.  We sorted out what needed to be done, and in no time he had the amp back up and running with NOS parts and no value lost. I did opt to buy some NOS vintage JAN Philips 6v6s for the tech to install and now the amp is back in my hands and sounding absolutely glorious! I can't say enough how much I appreciate how Imperial Vintage took care of me. I will definitely be back! This amp is super clean and almost entirely original! read more

I purchased an all original Gibson ES 125 3/4 T from Imperial Vintage Guitars. It was made in 1958. All I can say is WOW! Actually, I can say much more. It is the cleanest ES 125 3/4 T I have ever seen. It is so tight that I know it's been in a closet somewhere for decades. It is very near mint, and I do not use that term for a 65 year old guitar often, if ever. Tommy had new strings of my choosing put on it. He also set it up for me according to my playing style. Best set up I have ever had. Now the fun part. I just finished playing on my patio that overlooks Redding. Unreal view. My neighbors tolerate moderate volume from my Fender Princeton Reverb, and here is my summary: This is the best sounding guitar I have ever played, and I have owned many master built Gretsch's, Fenders, and top of the line Rickenbackers. Nothing I have ever owned compares to the crisp, clear bark of this beauty. It is like glass, or crystal, the way that it's sound interacts with the medium (air). Tommy, THANK YOU!!! read more

Me (and my father) go here for all our guitar stuff. They have pretty much anything Fender you could ever ask for, plus a bunch of other goodies. They also have a great selection of tube amps and solid state, in a ton of price ranges. The staff is super friendly and more than willing to help you find the right fit. In addition to complete guitars, they also have a section with various guitar parts. This is my favorite part of the store, because they actually have some gems if you dig around. I got an awesome vintage Fender leather strap for $10! They have guitar bodies, necks, pickups, electronics, switches, etc. Most (guitar parts in the loose part section) are used, and they dont have e v e r y t h i n g, but for a local store they have quite the selection, and I know I am quite satisfied. I have a career background in the music industry, play instruments, know my gear, etc. Hence, it is quite annoying that the plethora of music shops in LA think that when they see a female walk in; she won't know an amp from a cabinet or a bass from a guitar. Well, word to the "wise": I DO. My gender can cause some poor customer service plus the habit of being taken advantage of. Imperial Vintage Guitars isn't AS bad as others I have experienced. The shop is quaint, clean, and well organized. Not to mention bright and quiet. However, character was missing from the shop. Meaning: Imperial Guitars is too "stiff" and perfect. All the equipment is clean and in rather great shape which IS exactly what some people are looking for. However, this doesn't give the real feel of a vintage guitar shop where one finds rare and collectible pieces. It feels more about the money and "flipping" a guitar. Imperial Vintage Guitars lacks that soul to be found in a true, vintage guitar shop. This also bleeds through onto Shai, the owner. Shai is personable, funny, and in a rather good mood as he helps his customers. Sounds great, right? However, he never mentioned playing music, knowing the instruments, etc. As I tried to sell him a 1920 Neapolitan mandolin (offered $150-200 at other spots); he didn't know anything about it and had to look it up on the computer commenting the whole time on how much it would sell for or NOT sell for (apparently in my case) versus the beauty of the instrument and the music produced. Again, it felt like Shai is all about the money and doesn't even play music himself. Another "eh" moment regarding Shai was his constant statement that he didn't want to "insult" me with the price he was offering for my mandolin. It took begging, basically, to get him to come out with it. It is comparable to being in a verbal argument with the other person saying, "I would say something mean about you but won't...". That doesn't make it better! Now I know you're thinking of an insult! Further, Shai proceeded to talk badly about a business competitor, which I found to be unprofessional. If you have to talk badly about a competitor or another business; that doesn't solidify your own. In fact, that makes me wonder why you have to "convince" me of your own good-standing. Overall, Imperial Vintage Guitars isn't a terrible choice when looking for a used- stringed music maker. The wares are in great shape and Shai is pleasant to converse with and is probably a great person, socially. However, he is more of a business man versus a musician. Plus, Imperial Vintage Guitars is a "used" store versus vintage. Not a bad choice, just not for me. read more

I bought an early 1970's Fender Precision bass from Tommy in 2013. I was just beginning my collecting. I asked Tommy if the bass and the case being sold with it were 100% original. He informed me that both the bass and case were original. At the time, I didn't know better. Flash forward to 2014, and now after a lot of learning, I know that I was not told the truth. I contacted Imperial Vintage Guitars by email, asking simply that they allow me to return the non-original case for an original, period correct case and they declined. They offered to let me BUY a Fender case for the bass. It's impossible for me to believe Tommy did not know the case was not an original Fender case (it does not say Fender on the outside and the inside compartment is not located where it would be on an original case). Accordingly, it is my belief that Imperial Vintage Guitars took advantage of my inexperience, at the time, by being deceitful. There are lots of qualities that define the character of a business. Dishonesty is one of the worst. read more

A vintage guitar shop you can trust. Picked up a vintage amp from them and when I got it home, I noticed one speaker didn't work. When I contacted them, they told me to bring it to their repair person who fixed it on the spot with no questions asked. I've dealt with other places who when something like this happened told me I was out of luck, but not this store. They took care of the issue in a totally professional manner. They are great to deal with during and after the sale plus their selection of gear is outstanding. Having three locations is also a huge plus. Just bought a '73 Guild Starfire V from Imperial today and I could not be happier. The dudes at the shop are so cool and knowledgable about guitars and they're interested in finding the guitar that's right for you. A lot of shops give you the impression that they're trying to pull one over on you by just selling whatever is going to make them the most cash, but the guys at Imperial are genuinely interested in getting you what fits you the best. I walked in at the other shop in Sherman Oaks and talked to Tommy the owner, telling him my price range and what I was generally looking for and he knew exactly what would fit my playing, got me connected with Joe at this shop and I was immediately stoked on the Starfire. Joe was able to tell me about the guitar and I got to try out some of the other guitars they had in the shop, too. I think these guys do a great job. I went there several times and they are patient and helpful for every question. One time I took them my Ibanez Jem 10th Anniversary guitar for selling and they suggest to sell it my self to a buyer directly. This is a great shop! They have a great collection of used and vintage guitars as well as some new ones and they all are priced right. Whenever I go there I see a dozen of new items I haven't seen before. They did an amazing setup for my 1963 stratocaster and I bought a 1969 and I bought an original 1969 telecaster from them for pretty much a steal. I had a very pleasant experience with both Shai and Tommy, they both made me feel welcomed every time I was in there. I'd rather shop in a mom & pop store like this than going to a big chain.
